Works on a Nexus tablet but not on my windows 8.1 PC. Also, Its a bit suspect why it asks for admin rights to run on the PC.
*
that is strange.

yes, it asks for admin rights every time going in but it works very well on my pc.

I am using Windows 7 desktop (52" LED TV as monitor) , TVAPP v1.0, first posted here by AVFAN , so far so good, no problems.

Every night I watch Wimbledon 2015 Live using this App. Got 3 different Channels showing the same matches in English and Chinese (Foxsport/ESPN/CCTV5). So if one source not too smooth, I switch to another  thumbup.gif
*
even on androidbox-tv, it comes out very good, 480p-720p.

this tvapp is now my fav app. rclxms.gif

Hi guys, can please recommend an android tv box that can stream online English channel to be placed at shop? I have a Modeo now but it keeps lagging, keeps connecting. I would prefer English cartoon or news (preferably short as my customers usually views them from 5-30 minutes). The Tv is to distract the customers while waiting. Im using Unifi 10Mb and using HDMI LCD Tv. Please do recommend. Thank you.
*
1. modeo... i hv played with one before, does not come across as the best android device in the market. maybe it is fine but u need to know how to make it work well - firmware, apps, updates, etc.

2. public display - u know that is prohibited, copyright issues, stay away from trouble.
in yr case, i think best to get right authorized package from hypptv/unifi for yr purpose. hypptv has news, cartoons, sports, chinese, malay, tamil. and it is reliable even for 10mbps.

any Himedia Q3 user? any pros and cons? BTW, can the android box output to home theater system?
*
if himedia, i advise u to get Q16 quadcore.
more expensive but worth it all round.
more impt, it is a very popular model, easy to find help later for firmwares, apps, etc.
this model can output the highest video audio playback - 4k, dtshdma, dolby digital atmos.

Android box works like any your android phones, all apps can easily install either via apk or google play store. Plus most android box on the market usually already come pre-installed with streaming apps and kodi so you can start using out of the box. But for sure it is better to get reputable brand like minix and hi media because they always update their firmware and they have their own launcher for easy use with their remote and work better as media center
*
it is probably true an android phone user will find it easier.
should be ok with simple apk installation.
kodi...hmm, maybe not, unless all good addons preinstalled.
then there are updates...
a new android user will struggle with it (i did for 3 months), some will just give up - i have seen one! biggrin.gif
as for brands and models, i say it is more impt to have good continuous seller support.
and impt to have popular models so that you can share tips in a forum.

QUOTE(voncrane @ Jul 22 2015, 10:50 PM)
Nonsense? You don't simply assume that everyone knows how to properly fix up an android box. Sure, you can install apps from the play store & stop there, but i can tell you, most don't even know how to side-load an apk. Heck, probably don't even know what an apk means. Setting up say Kodi to nearly replace an Astro set top box is no where near as simple as installing from the marketplace and tapping the icon. Also, most boxes contain OTA firmware updates, but what happens when said firmware is problematic and or crashes the box upon update and you have to restore using a PC? Or he encounters a boot loop and needs to flash a custom recovery to backup apps, restore firmwares and pull apps + data from the backup. Yeah, you think everyone can do that? I simply let him realize what the majority of the populace don't realize before buying an android box (ending up blaming the seller or hardware). Its not a Hypptv/Astro box that auto-updates its firmware, channels and EPG data, if you encounter issues, then you call tech support to come replace the box for free. A good android box is great while it works but some day you'll require REAL hands-on.

Now while 5 Mbps might be sufficient for some streams, its hardly enough especially if you have other devices utilizing the internet at the same time. Go higher, 10Mbps @ least or even the new Unifi 30Mbps package.
*
pretty much agree with that, wasn't easy for me.

and yes, my 30mbps is coming! biggrin.gif

Is there any difference in quality for myiptv apps if I am upgrading my 5mbps unifi to 10mbps?
*
i hv no experience with myiptv app but from other apps, big and small, 10mbps will surely be better than 5mbps, esp for hd streaming and multi-users.

5mbps give approx 600KBps, good enough if single user for most part but will be inadequate with say, 3 users each drawing 250-300KBps.

i'm going 30mbps from 10mbps, expecting good streaming all the time for multi users. wink.gif

Hello, have spoken to few of the LYN sellers and have come to the conclusion of either of the following device:
1. HiMedia Q16
Advantage - Dedicated app - HiTV to watch more Asian Dramas/Movies
2. Minix H8
Advantage - XBMC a.k.a KODI (seller also mentioned that theres apk to install to watch asian dramas/movies on H8)
Honestly, to me the advantages does not make much of an impact because I won't tinker around with it.
I just wanna turn it on and watch. Home internet will be TIME Unlimited 10mbps Fibre Broadband.
Price wise, HiMedia is cheaper than Minx by at least RM100.
With those in mind, can you recommend me one that I should go for?
*
u can make a better decision if u r clear about:

.. do u watch chinese-japanese-korean stuff? i mean mandarin w/chinese subs and not cantonese w/eng subs. if that is impt, himedia is a good choice as it comes with a couple of "proprietory" apps for that - video on demand and livetv for movies, tv shows, documentaries, news, sports - in mandarin.

.. will u use kodi heavily? might be hard to say since u may not know yet. still, if kodi is the prime purpose, minix is probably a better choice due to its involvement in kodi development and customized kodi versions.

.. will u use the device for hd audio, i.e. home theater? for playback, Q16 pass thru hd audio incl dtshdma, dolby digital truehd and dolby atmos. of course, the files must be of those types and yr home theater must have the capability. minix, i believe pass thru core dts and core dd audio only.

i am a 2 yr old user of 3 himedia units, very happy with them, esp Q16 - 16gb memory is superb for big apps, no worries for memory space. with just a few good apps, i get all i need - movies, news, sports, livetv, english, mandarin. i don't even use kodi much these days as other easier and faster apps can offer same or better content.

minix - actual users incl voncrane can advise u. there are already some comments in this thread, so do read them.

one thing i must impress on you as a new user again - an androidtv box is NOT "push button". to make it work well, u do need to spend some time to understand how it works, update firmwares and apps, file management, cleanup, use of mouse and remote, etc. which is why pre-installation, good support and continuous help is very impt. androidbox is software driven whereas dvd players and astro are hardware driven.

goodluck!

If I can choose, I would prefer with ENGLISH subtitles while watching foreign shows (Korean especially) - so believe Q16 is better in this area?
*
the most common apps for chinese-japanese-korean shows do NOT have eng subs.

they mostly come with chinese subs - becos there are far more people wanting chinese subs than eng subs in the world.

but i know some browser based sites offer eng subs - i do not use these sites due to risk of malware.

English channels are no issue yeah?

I think Q16 is good smile.gif
*
there are plenty of apps in english.

but all u need are really a few good ones. i use these, in order of my usage:

1. Tvapp.so - live tv; news, documentaries; movies; (and chi-jap-kor channels); in HD
2. Popcorn - movies; highest quality video by streaming due to larger files
3. MovieHD - movies, tv shows; fast, easy to use
4. Mobdro - int'l news; fast, easy to use
5. Kodi - when it is not available in the first 4, e.g. skynews, skysports

i hope u get them presinstalled. wink.gif

hi, just found out abt popcorn time app and managed to watch movie from handphone ...

can someone suggest me good android player that can install popcorn app, has internal/erternal storage? tq
*
for eng movies, popcorn is among the best u can get.

it is torrent based, so it can consume anything from 2gb at any one time up to 8gb for the largest and best files.

to access those, u need min 16gb android which after the the usuals, leaves 8gb or so free.

an 8gb android may only have <4gb left free - u can only play some of the smaller 720p files in popcorn.

also, take note of the broadband speed requirements.

small files need only 200KBps, largest ones may need >800KBps.

so, it will need 10mbps (1250KBps) min to play the largest files, besides the android free memory requirement.

i can only suggest u read a bit more, incl seller's section, seller threads, ask questions.
last word of advice, buy from a seller who can support u continuously, not just for the sale.
becos the device needs constant firmware upgrades, new apps, etc.
plus if new to androids, there r many things to learn.

anyone with experience for chinese contents? such as Kdrama (with chinese subtitle), HKdrama... planning to set one for my mom
*
basics first...

.. chinese contents = mandarin, hokkien, cantonese?
.. out of 100% "chinese" contents available, 95% is in mandarin, mostly no subs, some with chinese subs, a very small amount with eng subs
.. they come in 3 ways: video on demand (vod) on apps (as in android apps); live tv (mostly china tv channels); browser based videos (youtube and the like)
.. it is a lot better viewing from a good stable app - easier nagivation, choice of source, choice of resolution
.. limited korean stuff can be found in some chinese apps (typically w/chinese subs); a lot found in browser based sites like kdrama, dramafever. even some apps/addons like dramago draw on these "youtubes".
.. hk/canto stuff is much like korean stuff - few on chinese apps (if there is, usually dubbed in mandarin), more on browser sites.
.. the biggest problems with browser videos are risk of malware and usually poor video quality - becos they are designed for mobile phones/tablets, not tv's.

it will take time to learn about androidboxes, how to make it work well, what u need to get english or chinese or greek, etc.

for older people, it will be even more difficult as it is not "push button". i would suggest u read a bit more, check it out at one of yr neighbors, friends or colleagues who are using it, see for yourself how it works, ask about the common problems.

then u decide if u or yr mum like it, can handle it.

Does my amp. Denon 1610/1910 model blue led will light up if using himedia Q16 playing mkv files with dts-hd audio or master audio?
*
think yr avr has hd audio capability.

so, yes, if using native player - manufacturer software installed as part of the device.

you can install and playback with other players like kodi, mx, es, vlc which may or may not pass thru hd audio.

himedia q16 can even pass thru dolby atmos.

Assuming I do not need 3D/4K, I do not need advanced audio features (just connect SPDIF to sound bar), will stream content, and play from my NAS.
Will Q3 do the job? Cause looking at the specs of a seller, it has the same Hi3798C A9 as the Q16, but RAM & memory is less.
*
i cannot say this enough:

do not buy just becos the specs say it is fine for you.

consider support and help u will need in the future.

androids are software driven, needs progressive updates of firmware and apps.

popular models are a better choice becos there will be many users who can help you; better still if seller can help you direct.

buy a box which fit yr needs NOW and for the next 2-3 years, after which it will be obsolete.
