Been calling Astro customer service.
The Njoi card you have registered is tied with the decoder given during installation. This means once your decoder is spoiled or no longer supported, you have to register a new Njoi account and install. That will cost you RM 405 for a new decoder and installation.
*

So for Astro, the Njoi box is just like "disposable" product?
Use until spoil. Once spoil, buy new one.

Who knows they are using refurbished STBs... shakehead.gif

Ohhh.. I thought you're referring to the legacy, old Astro boxes... (The very very old ones, doesn't support HD ones).
Well yeah. Not just converting to Njoi. In fact they do have the history of convincing terminated Astro customers to reactivate back the service after some time.
Astro let the customer keep the set top box so that the customer can use back the Astro box whenever the customer wants to reactivate the service again. Unless for some reasons (e.g. you're migrating to other country, and no longer staying in Malaysia), then they have the rights to collect back the set top box from you. Or else they'll incur some charges to you for not returning the set top box.

Just bought NJOI HD decoder and plugged-in to my 40" TV using HDMI, parent complain the image quality seems worsen compared to previous older SD decoder using 3 color component cables. Not sure is it due to the 1080i interlace? I think previous SD decoder was on 576p resolution if I'm recall correctly...
*

Try change the Sharpness setting on your TV Picture settings to 0 (zero).
Legacy Astro SD boxes are 576i, HD boxes are 1080i (as of now).

Hi.

Possible to use and move my parent njoi decoder in ipoh to my apartment in jb? Can I move, plug to my centralised satelit point? My apartment has a centralize Astro satellite.

Thanks in advance.
*

Can.
If you can't get any signal after connecting it to the centralise antenna, even the cable are correctly connected, then try change the Installation Settings >Satellite Settings

Input Type make sure it's Universal or DCSS, depending on the LNB type used in your apartment at JB. But if u can get signal as usual, then no need to bother these things.. Just enjoy watching will do smile.gif

how much does a new njoi box cost ?  the previously send to astr0 said spoil no signal need to change one but price => RM300.

Now no more analog signal all must buy a new dvb-t2 box.
*

RM405 inclusive installation fees.
https://www.njoi.com.my/get-njoi-prepaid
Don't bother the "Njoi Prepaid" thing, unless you're interested to pay extra money to subscribe to its prepaid channels.
They just want to encourage people to spend money on subscribing prepaid channels.

If you wish to watch digital TV, you can use back your UHF antenna (Recommended: outdoor UHF aerial) and cabling (Recommended: RG-6 coaxial cable type) as long it is good in condition.
Except indoor antenna, do make sure you remove any signal boosters (masthead amplifier) and cable splitter used in between the connection from your TV to outdoor UHF antenna.
There's 2 ways for you to proceed:

1) Buy a brand new TV (so that you don't need to rely on digital TV box, and can connect the cable directly from antenna to TV)
2) Buy DVB-T2 digital TV converter box, which you can easily purchase online:
Greenpacket (the one that CJ Wow Shop kept annoy viewers to buy): https://shopee.com.my/SIRIM-MCMC-Certified-...3781.2251258034
MYTV Broadcasting brand that costs RM187: https://shopee.com.my/MYTV-Decoder-Siaran-D...84212.792302418

If you have any questions on how to receive digital TV, you can refer to this topic and read the newer posts here that discuss about digital TV, and you may post a reply if there's anything you're not familiar with:

Hi, new to NJOI here, wonder if AEC HD available in NJOI free channels? It's so pixelated watching with HD tv.
*

Astro AEC HD is only available for Astro subscribers, and Njoi viewers have no way to watch that channel in HD, not even prepaid, for now.
Meaning, you got to have monthly subscription by converting to Astro to watch Astro AEC in HD.

so what is good about NJOI without any subscription add on?
feels like all the channels are useless.
and it seems the SD quality is becoming bad to worse.
*

If they don't make the SD quality look worse, would you bother to spend more money to upgrade to HD (convert to Astro subscription)?
That is called marketing strategy from Astro.

Actually what is the expectations on SD quality with latest LED technology?🤣 i mean what to expect? Definitely SD is not presentable on new LED tv right...
*

SD quality shall look similar like YouTube 480p quality.
But for marketing purposes, Astro make the picture quality for SD channels even poorer (similar like YouTube 240p-360p) so that viewers can see the big difference when comparing between SD and HD quality channels.
This practice is not something new for them... They have been doing this for more than 5 years ago.

Otherwise, customer won't bother to subscribe to HD service cuz they find that SD quality is acceptable to them.
When customer subscribes HD, that means pay more money to Astro, hence Astro can gain more revenue and profit from there.

That is the case for Astro. But for Njoi, they would do many tactics for you to spend money on the platform, such as promoting its prepaid channels and upgrade/convert to the Astro monthly subscription.
Like it or not, that is the Astro's way of doing business.

Hi Guys...
Am  currently on Astro and stumbled upon this NJOI. Thing is, my astro is mainly for my son to watch his Disney Junior and nothing else. Occasionally, we also use the Astro 2 Go app to catch up on his cartoons.

My question is: I came across the closure of the NJOI app. Does that mean that you can't watch online anymore? Or is it merge with the Astro 2 Go?

Thanks!
*

If the account is Njoi type, you can no longer stream any Astro shows on Astro Go or Njoi Now app.

If the account type is the usual Astro monthly subscription one, you can still watch your shows on Astro Go.

It's as simple as that.

I've converted to NJOI few years ago. Last year or year before I reg Astro 2 Go account linking to my ex-Astro account number, I'm still able to view some free channels, and also can access NJOI app (can't recall was it using same account ID with A2G). Last month when I tried access A2G, it can't access anymore stating I'm not subscribed to Astro, so it seems NJOI app death also ending the A2G access for converted to NJOI customer...
*

For Astro unfortunately, they are straightforward. Once converted to Njoi, then you are Njoi for real dy... They don't care if you were once Astro subscriber or not.

Njoi viewers today can only watch TV channels using the Astro/Njoi box connected to satellite dish, and no chance for online streaming like Astro Go or Njoi Now app (already dead).

Some of the channels on njoi is such a joke now. Definitely been downgraded from SD to Low D. For example 325 XTY the face of people cannot even clearly see the eyes and nose. Its just like applying Blur filter on Photoshop.
*

The SD quality you see on Njoi channels, are the same as what the usual Astro customer see.
Basically, if "you guys" see poor quality, usual Astro customers also see the same poor quality.

And yes, if you complain to Astro, they'll think that the issue is due to poor satellite signal, and advised to send a technician to your premise to check. doh.gif shakehead.gif

Saw that there is this njoi prepaid set thing we can buy. Can we do our own installation?
*

The charges you see, includes installation.
Even if you know how to install, their authorised installers are instructed to complete the installation first (incl. aligning satellite dish), then only activate the account on the spot.

----

Officially, there's no such thing for Astro/Njoi as "buy the pre-activated Njoi set, and then install yourself."
Perhaps, they are third party installers out there would let customer do that. But as for installation charges, they'll still charge as usual.

Both installers and Astro also want to earn money to bring food for the table for their families. tongue.gif tongue.gif
This is called, job opportunity.
If Astro/Njoi allow customer to do installation by themselves, sounds like saving costs, but then both the installers and Astro will lose potential job opportunities to assist customer to install Astro/Njoi, as well as technician assistance.

So at the end of the day, it depends on how you think lo...

Becos last time the njoi box at my parent house, Astro got call to offer family pack for trial at special price. So I supposed it could be done?
*

As long you're using the HD box, it's just a matter of "changing settings in their system" from Njoi or Astro for your account type.
They would "suddenly" offer Family pack or whatever promo, is to lure you to eventually opt for monthly subscription instead of not paying anything every month like the regular Njoi, which for them it is money losing business.
As long you pay money to them for whatever stuff, they're happy already.

Sounds like these are the efforts and strategies from their Customer Retention Specialist, or some marketing tactics.

yeah. of course astro would want people to give them constant $$ by signing up astro normal package.

There is such saying that one needs to keep the NJOI setup box on often else the service will be suspended. Got such thug?
*

Yes. If the Njoi set top box is not powered on for more than 14 days, the account will be suspended (cuz for them, it's considered as inactive user).
But you can reactivate it back, either by sending an SMS (follow instructions shown on screen), or at https://selfservice.astro.com.my/ or call customer service to do it. It's free to reactivate it back.

QUOTE(voscar @ Dec 22 2019, 09:19 PM)
Wow RM50 for the conversion, easy job just some click on the system I think.
No lah, all this while conversion is available, just that they try not to make known so both Astro installer can earn hefty amount by installing the equipment. Told you mine was converted years back on their online campaign without paying.

BTW, 2 months back I purchased used NJOI HD decoder with smart card from online seller for RM250. Seller said his budget hotel has to ceased operation so selling out those items. Bought it because my old non-HD decoder don't have digital audio output, and I found the analog audio has limited on treble-high (someone here shared capped at 13-15kHz).
*

Yea la... They want us to wait for days on something that can be done by just a few clicks.
Anything that bring disadvantage to them, surely they'll give you some difficulties, take longer time to get things done.

Just curious since yours is PVR model, there's HDD inside for recording right? The recording is manual set method (like older day VCR) or programmed by Astro? I mean after you shift to NJOI do you think still able to do recording?
*

Of course not.
Astro will disable the PVR functionalities for your PVR box, so you won't be able to use any PVR functions anymore once you switch to Njoi.
It's just that Astro no need to waste money on customers to assign installer to go to customer's premise and replace from PVR to a HD box, so they rather let you keep whatever you have, and just "change your account settings from their side".

That way, it saves cost for them. After all, their mentality is like, why should we give you so much after sales benefits if you're not paying us monthly anymore?
Cuz after that, if you face any technical issues (after sales service that requires technician to visit your premise to fix), you got to pay for the technical service fee for sure.

*

Anyhow, take good care of your Astro box, cuz you're on your own now. Even if technical issues happen to you, whether is caused by you, or it spoil by itself due to lightning strike, manufacturing problem, satellite dish misalignment, or anything, that's all on you. Astro don't care anymore. If you want Astro to "care" and come fix it for you, then they'll talk about money already. Simple. So better is you learn to troubleshoot on technical issues that you can fix yourself.
