It's common, considering that I also a Vios driver before this, it gets better from 3-4k mileage, and I feel it's very smooth at 5k clocked so far, only slight jerking when going uphill at low speed, which is bearable to me smile.gif

wah not bad... many vios owners choose focus as their next upgrade... me as well... still having my vios.. good short distance vehicle.

clocking 15k now, my focus is at tip top condition now.. less juddering. but that grinding noise always that la... not bothered already... the car is superb to drive... !

Hi, I tested out the USB slot at the glove compartment using a 32GB pen drive to listen to songs. Unfortunately the pen drive could not be connected to the system with a "connection Error" message. I tried using a smaller capacity pen drive of 2GB and it worked.

Is this due to the large capacity of the pen drive? Checked manual but nothing in it covering the USB function.

Anyone experienced this issue before? Thanks.

i'm using a 40gb external hard disk... no issues...
make sure the drive is formatted in FAT filesystem. it should work.

Anybody know how to set door to autolock when driving/moving?
Secondly is there any way to prevent auto unlock when passenger open their door?
*
you can't autolock as i remember.. at the centre console.. the lock/unlock button actually locks the door to prevent someone from outside opening the door... still can open from inside no matter what.. this is by design to enable to passengers to exit the car in case fire/emergency.
my case, i enable the manual childlock on both back doors when my little one at the back.

There's autolock function built in to our car. Just that it has been disabled from the factory.
To enable it, u need to get someone with VCM, connect it with the car and enable those features.
Not sure whether there's risk of "brick-ing" the car tho.
No way... I sent my car for service yesterday and complain about the rattling sound.
They told me its the steering rack and need to be replaced.
Need to wait 3 months? That is painfully long time.
How long do they ask u to leave your car with them?

As a side note, sent my car for 1st service at SDAC PJ. Had the 1st slot, 8am but car done on 2pm.
The car actually done quite some time before but because everyone was out for lunch hence no one to handle it.
Kinda pissed off that the whole process is so time consuming not because of actual servicing but on the way the staff handle the process.

After the service, the car feel much lighter.
Complaint about:
1. the juddering, not sure what they did, it is smoother now.
2. the rattling noise from front steering rack problem, need warranty
3. car looses power when reverse up steep slope. Not able to replicate problem
4. number plate blocking sensor, fixed, extra screw i guess
5. can smell exterior smoke in the cabin - they didn't update me on this.
6. radio never remember last option, always reset to radio after restart vehicle even though selected usb - tried on other car, same problem, could be the thumb drive.

2 days... sent on wednesday morning.. suppose to get call friday... let see how..... have asked to perform 20k service as well cause mileage 19K already.
haha... i had the same issue during my 1st service,, appointment at 9... got my car at 3pm.. pissed off as well but the answer and reason is the SC is too full, they are building up another 2 service centres to cater unexpected boom of ford sales...

Got my car as.promised last Friday. No.longer hear the noise on uneven road.. so far..
20k service also done with the software update.. very minimal shudder now. Do still here the grinding although reduced much.. the steering rack is improved version and hopefully it stays that way.

Like dwango mentioned, the low.speed ride much smoother but feels less oomph during hard acceleration... let see how it gets by day..

I would like to check with Titanium owners in which the vehicle comes in Goodyear Assurance Fuelmax tyres. May I ask how long do these tyres last, and whether you have rotated your tyres, assuming you will be changing all 4 tyres when they are worn-out.

Currently at about 8,000km mileage clocked on the vehicle, I noticed the tread wear of the front tyres is high. I am not sure if I can wait until 10,000km before I rotate the tyres. Perhaps I will do it earlier at about 9,000km.

Has anybody managed to use these tyres up to 30,000km or more. Looking at the wear rate on these tyres I think they don't last very long, perhaps up to 40,000km or so.

Any information would be most appreicated.
*
bro... titanium here. i'm clocking about 20k now. The wear and tear do not sounds that bad as you mentioned. The tyre looks hardy although its noisy.
I rotated it at 10k. So will be rotating it soon as well.

Just to share my experience.

I'm the proud owner of a fofo titanium since 05/13. Clocked 30,000km already and going in for my service this week.

Like many owners, I am facing the 2 main issues with the car ie jerking and grinding. The jerking at low speed was getting quite bad so I finally gave in and updated my software in March 2014. The results was normal with jerking reduced significantly but also with the loss of power or 'kick' during pick up. Problem now is that after 3 months the jerking is back again. Will see if anything can be done when I go in for my service. Is there any new update after March 2014?

Grinding is also obvious during low speed especially when uphill or going up carpark ramp with turns. It was also reduced after update but also starting to come back but not that obvious as previously. Wanna ask other owners if grinding will be persistent if going up long uphill like Genting? So far had no chance to bring my fofo up yet.

I am a little disappointed that the jerk and grind are back and I have lost the original 'kick' during pick up. Have half a mind to ask SC if possible to downgrade back since jerk and grind are still there but I can feel the power during acceleration again (boleh factory reset kah? haha).

Anyway, I still totally love my fofo. Nothing I owned before and even test drove comes close. I guess cars are like people, no one and no car is perfect. We just choose the best fit for us and enjoy the ride with all the little imperfections.
*
agree.. like you said.. no car is perfect. all has plus and minus.. and adapting to it and enjoying the car is where the satisfaction is. like.. the grinding sound... seems can;t do anything about it so as we know the sounds is obvious during low speed so.. just switch to S mode and you will no longer hear the grinding noise as it would lower a gear and gives you a kick. smile.gif

For those who have renewed the insurance on your Focus, may I ask what insurance company you have used, and what is the value the car was insured at? RM85k? RM90k?

I am currently on AIG but am planning to change to another new insurance company soon.
*
renewed with AIG. Agreed value coverage (avc) of 101k (the max). the told me initial value is 99k. so can plus minus 5% for the avc. i was scouting around for other insurers but in the end stick with AIG due to the fact the AIG is preferred insurer in FORD and anything goes wrong, it would be easier to deal between FORD and AIG. Been hearing good feedback on AIGs claim process so just decided to stick with them although its slightly pricy.

i don't feel any more judder at all 26k now. probably thats due to my driving style also no longer babying the car, which i think contributes to the juddering. Also, the grinding noise, i noticed, if i place my hand on the gear knob and just slightlty lean it towards front (D mode), the noise dissappears. maybe the grinding noise is just about something that is loose somewhere there. give it a try. will check with sc on next 30k service.

I just received a letter from Ford. Warranty reminder. Its addressing the transmission and the shuddering and jerking. Ask to bring the car in for repair if its excessive.

Anyone else receive this letter?
*
Yes, i received. it's just a reconfirmation letter i guess.

My Focus battery died yesterday night. after 1 year and 8 months. Able to jump start with my bros Inspira and drove back. Today morning able to start without any issue and straight drove to PJ SDAC. Battery was changed within an hour. Initially i thought able to change the battery only once under the warranty but it seems they allow multiple times up to first 3 years.

By the way, i had symptoms like when starting up the car, LCD display will start up slowly since past 1 week, the trip meter settings like avg fuel, mileage to go all gets reset by its own few times. I did checked the battery health with the device in my tyre shop and surprisingly the battery showed no symptoms of problems or slowing down. it just died like that. so just take note of the symptoms and head on to service center if any of above.

Hi guys,
My mk3 is 4+ years mileage at 120k. My front passenger door won't latch. This suddenly happened when driving and the door opened during turn unable to lock it anymore. The latch unable to click. It was nightmare and such safety issue never happened to any of car ive owned. Anyone had the door latch issues? In US there seems was some recall previously. I'll go to ford on Tuesday to check on this.

Do you mean the front passenger door suddenly opened by its own when the car is moving on the road when you are doing a turn? That is dangerous.

120,000 km @ 4+ years. That's some serious mileage you have clocked there. Mine is still below 56,000+ km after 4 years.
*
That's right when made a turn to right the door just slammed out with the heavy door. The latch seems just given up and will not clip anymore. I think this is serious issue and let see what SDAC going to do about it.

Yes its an enjoyable ride so far clocking 120k but sigh I'm super disappointed with the reliability of this car. I can write a long story on my experience with this car during this 4 1/2 years. :-) positive and negative...

Its a common issue with Ford Fiesta; happened to a friend of mine (1.0L Ecoboost) and had been rectified by SDAC;
Howver SDAC did not issue a recall on this; they're dealing with this on a case-by-case basis smh...
Though I'm not sure if this is a common issue with our Focus MK3;
*
So my car is back from SDAC after leaving it on Monday evening.. the door latch was replaced FoC... after needing approval from FoMoCo just for the affected door and also they have checked other door latches as well for any visible defects.. seems no... about recall it seems Malaysia is not part of the recall and only handled case by case basis.. maybe after someone seriously injured or rather dead thrown out from car when latch fails... maybe they will do recall here in Malaysia.

All this 4 + years.. Ive been positive about this car all this while.. just too many problem for this american car... i think FORD is no longer "Built Tough".... enjoyable ride but what's the point if the car is having some issues here and then with one another... first and last Ford..

I feel your frustration..

Touch wood; other than the DCT, slight cabin vibration during idle and the (occasional) false/positive brake light warning; my car still runs and drives like a charm; just clocked 50k km yesterday. Planning to replace new tires and tint for my next step; any recommendation?
*
Love this car for the speed, excitement, stability, the awesome stock sound system, quality cabin materials and solid driving experience..

DCT wise I had TCM module replacement. But somehow I like the kick we get from DCT although it maybe not smooth... But ticking time bomb is the DCT oil seal leak plus overheating issue when stuck in traffic for long or stuck at uphill.

I had steering rack replacement.. The noise came back though.

Aircond condenser leak... And other minor issues

Tint I'm using raytech.. About 4+ years.. OK not that great in terms of heat rejection..

Tyre I've used Michelin but I don't find much different from the original goodyear.. I'm using good year again.. Furthermore tyre pricing of Michelin have gone up drastically...
...

Been driving a problem drowned ford focus under 5 years of use and current mileage of approx 100k. (bought oct 2013)

- radiator hose needed replacement
- Transmission Control Module TCM, (gearbox lah) needed replacement
- two door latch gave way (kenot tutup pintu)
- back left brake light rosak
- exhaust "oxygen sensor" rosak
- batt life wont lepas one year after the original batt which lasted 1.5++ years

* apparently ford service centres dont have data communication. meaning if i replace a part at one shop i must return back to the same one for warranty claims. (well maybe im the noob here)
*
Me too.. About 5 years.. 120k km.. Tcm module replaced.. Steering rack replaced.. I've replaced all 4 latches already. I was told I'm the first to experience that much latch failure. How bad the build quality can be... Sigh.. I can sense that my engine mounting is slowly giving away also now.. The clutch seems exhibiting issues... I've adopted to dual clutch but I feel the gearbox is not as smooth as before.. Plus many other things.. How else I should be positive about this car to last much longer.. Such a joy and solid ride but man the reliability is totally off.. With Ford US is ending the production. Of Focus.. The future looks bleak for focus owners.
