With Focus mk3, not that I am aware of. Do you mean driving fast on straight line or tackling cornering/bends? The weight of the steering wheel in my (now sold) Focus mk3 remains the same in all driving conditions.

Hope everyone is well. On rare occasions I still go to Mudah.com to check on used prices of the Ford Focus especially the 1.5 Ecoboost variant although it is highly unlikely I'll get one due to known issues of the turbo engine which may require costly repairs. This was shared by the boss of Bengkel Auto Excellent and by few owners also. I am not sure what other issues are prevalent with the 1.5 Ecoboost model though. As far as I know the 2.0 mk3 model is fairly reliable with the steering rack being its main Achilles heel.

I hope there are more owners of the 1.5 Ecoboost who can share issues with the vehicle here, but looks like this thread is quite dead. I can understand owners who may not be willing to share any issues that may scare potential buyers away in the event they want to sell their cars. That is perfectly comprehensible, but that won't be doing potential buyers any good though. I've monitored the used prices of the Focus 1.5 Ecoboost throughout the years starting from 2019 when the desire to get one was still strong back then. During that time, the 2nd hand price was about RM65k, then it slowly dropped to 50k, then 40k and now it's 35k already advertised price still negotiable. Interest still remains low although used prices of the 1.5 Ecoboost are slowly hitting rock bottom.

tbf, seldom see any Ford car on the road since 2 years ago. Saw a few Ford Kuga odr at MRR2 usually, but in a bad shape.

Yes, similarly Ford vehicles have become rare as I rarely see Focus of Fiesta these days. Seems like most owners have sold their cars and most of the vehicles are in 2nd hand dealers without any takers.

Throughout my 30 years driving experience, I have not bought a 2nd car before. About 4 years ago, I went to 2nd hand car dealers to look at used Ford Focus (and Volvo V40 also), and once at a seller's house. In all instances I was put off by the condition of the cars, mostly in bad shape. The vehicles in the 2nd hand car dealers have signs of accident repairs while the one in the owner's house was in bad shape with dents and knocks everywhere. I wonder why the user didn't disclose in the ad when the car is in bad shape, just wasting everyone's time especially my time when I went to view the vehicle. From that day onwards it had killed my interest on used cars.

If not, can kindly redirect me to the appropriate forum topic? Thank you in advance!

Any Ford Focus mk3.5 owners care to spill the beans what is the main problem(s) encountered with the car? Found this advertisement on Mudah.com and there are 2 previous owners before this 3rd guy who is now selling the car after owning it for a short period.

I am still driving mine, Ford Focus TDCi GHIA. Recently did a few repairs, mainly renewed the interior seat, changed the aging leather seat and redone all the seat. Fixed the door trims, it was peeling due to age, more than 12 years mind you.

Also installed a new pair of headlamp. Was cataract due to age and weather. Still a few kinks here and there that need some fixing.

I am still the original owner of the car mind you.

Ford Focus 1.5 ecoboost engine has some common issue, first one is piston 2 cracking. This is due to LSPI, solutions are use the correct engine oil for this engine, down shfit before you want to floor your gas pedal, and change the revised version of intake manifold as the old version has some design flaw which can cause the engine oil to go into the combustion chamber and cause piston crack. Second problem is coolant intrusion into combustion chamber, issue is due to engine block design. Best solution is to change the revised engine block, or alternative is to do an engine top overhaul.

Thanks for the response, appreciated. From your description it appears that there are long-term solutions to the two issues with the Ford Focus 1.5 Ecoboost. Good to know. I assume the car would not show any problem if it's on the new (revised) intake manifold and engine block.

My interest in a used Ford Focus or any used cars is now gone with the wind since 3 years ago as all the 3 of 4 used cars I checked out at used car dealers and one at the owner's house are all in poor condition with most showing signs of accident repairs.

I would say the focus is a fairly reliable car if taken care well, and follow those maintenance services, change oil on time and learn how to protect the engine whenever you want to floor it (downshift before flooring it). As Ford focus is same like any other continental cars like VW golf or Peugeot 308. So as an owner just need to maintain it with on time or earlier, don’t abuse it as if you’re driving a Toyota or a Honda as this is same like an European car, then you are good to go

Good to know. The Ford Focus is a good car and hopefully you will continue to enjoy the ownership. At times I still harbour interest in a used Focus 1.5 though it is unlikely I will end up with one. I noticed the used prices of the Focus 1.5 has now reached ~RM25k already
