This was the question i posed to the service guy when i had the problem with mine. He denied it ever happening during a drive. OMG, during a drive!!! Now I'm really worried!!! Plus, I had to pay for the first door latch replacement!!!
*
Oops. You shouldn't be paying for it. Basic safety issue. Manufacturing problem.

I did question the service guys regarding the door latch issue; apparently it is a common issue for the Fiesta, and hence Ford acknowledge it and replace it FOC;
For Focus however.. it was not as it wasn't as a common problem like the Fiesta; hence no warranty for it  console.gif

All I can say that, we have to treat and close the doors as gently as possible; we can't slam these doors like our local/japanese cars.
The doors are indeed heavy, but I find that it doesn't take much effort to close them, just grab the door handle, with a firm grip, gently push the doors to close it.

The Focus, really need to treat it like a princess.
*
Guys again.. This latch issue no one should be paying.. Ford responsible for this failure to ensure safety on its cars.. Differing Statements From sdac. Well corporations as we know.. Many cases not only focus... but as far I was told they are handling case by case basis..

Bro.. It's not about handling it like a princess.. I rarely have passengers at back.. Minimal use.. And never really slammed doors.. The drivers door which used maximum and probably slammed never gave up.. The conclusion is latch quality is not good.. In US there was recall. But here the Sdac says Ford US says here not affected. What is the odd all my 3 latch failed one after another within 3 to 4 months. Can't be user problem. Even Malaysian car latch don't Rosak ini Macam. Malu la..

The more gently u treat the more the car misbehave..

If SDAC does not acknowledge this and provide a replacement for it; what else can you do?
Have you escalated this upwards to their upper service management?
*
Well I've replaced mine for all My latch failure FoC. Not all 4 at once but also case by case basis.I went 3 times in past 4 months to replace them. In fact I was not pushed away at all. The latches was replaced without any the need for me to escalate up higher.

Oh new update. To add on to the existing issues, engine mount now needs replacement (very bad shudders especially during idling), costing about 1k. Also the radiator tank leaking so that's another 150.

I'm not gonna replace the mount just yet thou.
*
The engine mount Looks like another flaw as I've seen this being discussed more n more.. Sigh.. Is that amount from. sdac?

Including the next change it will be my forth time for clutch change after owning the car for around 5 years++. Agreed on the low 2nd hand price. During end of may, got offer for trade in 27k only for 2013 titanium ver when thinking whether to change to civic to enjoy the tax holiday. But didn't made the move due to the trade in price too low. The concern is the high maintaining cost and durability of the DCT. Now still under warranty, the only loss is time and hassle of no car to use. Just imagine after warranty period for clutch, each change will cost around 4k on clutch pack only if not thing else need to replace. If problem with the shift fork (extra 3k each) or front wheel seal or something (extra 1k). If the car mainly use for highway drive, then can keep else the day to day heavy traffic jam are just killing the car and the clutch...

That's exactly my thoughts as well.. After warranty.. Like money bomb..

Thanks for the information. Yes, the risk is there although some have managed to claim the free warranty on the clutch and TCM. I have asked this question before to both the service advisor at PJ service centre and Ford Customer Service via their hotline number on the website and they confirmed that owners need to continue to service their cars at the authorized service centres to be entitled to the warranty claim.

Not too sure how much is the difference in servicing cost between Bengkel Auto Excellent and Ford's authorized service centre. If anyone has recently sent their Ford Focus 2.0 mk3 to Bengkel Auto Excellent for the 100,000 km service (exactly 5 years), would be good if you can share the servicing cost to see how it compares. The cost is RM680.62 at Trio Mantap Tmn Kencana.
*
I've asked with sdac pj before and I was told extended warranty for the clutch tcm don't require us to service with Ford service center. So I stopped servicing at sdac. I've change my clutch after that as well.

I also got this sound on slow bump.. Where it's coming from?
*
If not mistaken this should be steering rack noise. I've changed it once under warranty.. Was ok for sometime but then it returned as usual... Annoying...

This is not nearly enough, methink. So the question remains, why don't I see more Ford Focus/Fiesta around? I would usually see more Rangers than other variants.

There are more Japanese-made cars (i.e. Honda, Toyota, Mazda), and as for continental cars, I am seeing BMW/Merc. But the most I see on the roads would be nationally-made cars.

So why are there not more interest for Malaysians in owning Ford? It can't be the reliability issues, as Ford is reliable, and comes with extended warranties.
And it can't be just the re-sale value, can it?
*
It's simple.. Just browse through last I would 5 to 6 pages.. You would know why... Maybe it was reliable maybe decades ago... It's no longer....

So you think that it's down solely to reliability?
*
For me it is..when I purchased this back in 2013.. This was the best value for the spec and quality. No doubt about it. The interior and performance is the best in class I would say. But as I use it now 5 years plus.. I still think it's a good car performance and feature wise. I like to drive it. But.. The real issue is number of times I had to send this car to SC for warranty replacements.. Number of days I had to be without the car. Cost to maintain it after warranty period is over... plus.. Plus..

I'm still keeping it though since I have loan to service and in a way it's a solid car..

my 2013 fofo back door can't be lock and SC don't have the part to fix it. They said it sensor issue , might need 2 to 3 months to get the part.

aircon also kong , SC can't even quote me the price of fixing it.

Thinking of just park outside with door open, see if get stolen or not.
*
Hahaha.. I doubt it.. And don't forget the Ford key to be inside the car.

That's the most important factor for this car. $$$.. If you can get good price.. It might be worthy.. Considering you might/have to spend for expensive ford parts therafter..

Just my thoughts.. since many asking about this car.. Ive sold my focus couple of days ago. It's an awesome car to drive.. No denying in that.. Many new cars even at this year don't even have some features that this mk3 got in 2013.. The interior quality is unmatched for that price range when I bought. After 6 years I had to let go as I've equal frustration too with the reliability of this car. So many warranty claims... Steering rack... Mounting.. TCM.. Clutch.. Door latches.. Oil seal.. Power window.. And etc... Although it was mentioned "improved versions” replacements.. But I still find some of the problems are coming back. I spent quite amount from my pocket too apart from warranty claims. Some parts are not in warranty coverage. Replacements parts are super expensive.. I know it's a conti. Expected... But never thought it will have this much failures.. Limited suppliers here.
Lesson learned.. Ford no longer built tough...

I just need a reliable car with less bells and whistles.. Cheaper to maintain after warranty over.. Parts that can be sourced cheaper outside.. I don't want to end up in workshop that often with long waiting times for warranty claims and no replacement cars given... Ford Malaysia SDAC really failed here. Ford Ranger is the only exception...

So I had made decision to sell although at the moment no issues .. drives well after all the repairs... But I don't afford to maintain it further.. Sold..

If you are planning to get one.. It's a superb drivers's car.. Be prepared with $$$$..

Thanks man! Will look it up!
PM-ed!
Ahha agree wholeheartedly! I've got mine for RM45,000 and that was 3 years ago, at 27,000KM; which is a steal.
I've managed to claim most of the parts under warranty, and my car is due for its clutch replacement tomorrow (also under warranty).
I too have also experienced the same issues like yours, except for the steering rack; but I believe the steering rack and the ABS module are the same problem as they're both shown under the U3000 error code. So far I've replaced the ABS sensor, sun-roof motor and rubber, 2 engine mounts; and thats about it.
My driver side power window starts to make some funny noise when you wind up from full down to full up; but this can be avoided if you slowly wind it up.

TBH, I still couldn't find any car that could offer such value like the Focus. It drives well, reasonably powerful, comfortable cruiser and returns a decent fuel economy of 12km/L. The only downside is its reliability, which will require you to spend quite an amount of money to maintain. But if you can get it cheap, with a decent leftover budget to maintain, go for it smile.gif

That window sound is the beginning... Next will be stuttering.. One day.. It won't move. .. That was my case..
