Why ergodox?
If you want ergo keyboard, then should go for kinesis because got contour.
*
I don't really need contour, but I like the concept of ergodox. two seperate units, for 2 hands.

Can use modifier keys to type one handed, or set all the keys to my Dota 2 keys.

When using one side the profile is like the Razer Nostromo.

All thing said, in the end is just I like the concept and the aesthetics.

Read first post again?

Sub 300 is Ducky Zero/Rosewill

Sub 400, can get Zero Shine or maybe a second-hand.

Lazy to do spoon-feeding...

In regards to the LED, I plan to get a Ducky Shine 3 with white LED and use this.
*
It actually decreases the brightness of your LEDs. It's a semi-solid colour changer, and you'd need to use the original keycaps (laser-etched coated PC?) that goes shiny really fast.

I wouldn't really put myself through that torture though. The keycaps I mean.

Oh this is the first time I'm hearing this, looks like I need to make reconsiderations.
True enough, another factor that makes me want to reconsider.  hmm.gif
*
Yup. I'm holding back from buying 016's F104 for the same reason. White LEDs are nice but... I need to switch to thin girly keycaps.

Do you really fancy about LED effect?

Btw IKBC F104 link here http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r....id=36989658522#

Some people like fancy LEDs. Don't judge tongue.gif

Not a must, but would be nice to have it though. I'm just wondering:

1. In terms of quality, are the mechanical keyboard's ABS keycaps the same as those RM20 to RM30 membrane ones? Or one wears out faster than the other? (Got a feeling this is another stupid question lol, have the tendency to ask due to being a paranoid, want to make certain)

2. Can light from the LED actually go through the double-shot PBT keycaps(like those from IKBC F-104)?
*
1. Not sure. I have not extensively worked with ABS keycaps, but for PBT keycaps the quality is noticeable. It doesn't shine, and the "thunk" is solid and satisfying. Membrane keycaps have a tendency to degrade, depending on the quality. Most RM20-30 keyboards use printed legends, which will wear off after a while. Only double-shots last almost forever, but I guess dyesub is also quite good.

2. Yes and no. I use red on white doubleshots, and the light is perceptibly dimmer. The glow is there and it really looks cool, but the legends are not clearly defined when the LED is at full power. It used to be possible to see the blue with max illumination even with my lights on, but it isn't when I switched to double-shots.

Also, just got this in the mail:

Please excuse the horrible office mouse and the fugly keycaps on my office MKB.

With this, all I can say is... Headache laa!!  rclxub.gif

Dun headache. remember, MKB is about feels. Bling is unnecessary. That's why I still prefer DS pbt over anything else.

QUOTE(justnits @ Feb 10 2014, 12:17 PM)
the red caps different profile?
what caps are the white n blue?
sp's blank pbt dsa?
*
The reds are flat keys. Gonna replace my QWER keys. The rest you guessed right. And now I have a repeat of my spacebar woes.

Why can't I just get decent spacebars in my life, EVER?

not headache, you are just blinded with the led effect  laugh.gif

Bling is bling bro. Bling can be good, bling can be bad.

i guessed right, those are from SP's since i was interested in getting the PBT DSA caps also, hence they looked familiar to me...haha!
what spacebar woes?
*
The new spacebar is sticking again on my KBT. When you press down already then it gets a little stuck and won't come back up fully.

Sigh...

But the keycaps feel fine, so...

Can't really find details. But for a laser etched top print keycap it should be alright I guess.
*
Yeah. Legends won't fade so easily unless it's just printed on top.

no need check.
coz thats the only replacement for non standard spacebar  laugh.gif

I beg to differ. Signature plastics have all the spacebars in the world. Their website is down now so I can't confirm :|

Does signature plastics make good stuff? Cuz like 016 said Max Keyboard is the only option for us so far. sad.gif
I'm already worshipping mac keyboards hahahhahhaa.
*
The DSA keycaps are really good. I think it's slightly better than the Vortex doubleshots. The feeling when the keys bottom out is much different and feels more solid. Very good buy.

When you buy this dsa from signature plastics? How long the shipping?

They delivered on 21-Jan-2014

Probably arrived today or last Friday, so about 14 working days or so? Not too shabby for priority mail with no tracking.

I see.
Good to see another blank keycaps user here. laugh.gif

I've been able to touchtype for a long time, so blank keycaps are pretty easy to get used to.

Only hurdle for me was the placement of the punctuation marks. Once I got used to that, it was blanks all the way.

I sum it up for you.

LEDs = BAD!

IMSTO keycaps = GOOD!

DOUBLESHOT keycaps = ALSO GOOD!

BAD!

Honestly, during intense moments of pwning noobs, you won't even notice the keyboard.

Remember, MKB is about feeling. Feels good, buy. Doesn't add to feeling? Don't bother.

Anyway, i figured out why the SP DSA keycaps aren't working out....

Basically, the switch is soldered upside down compared to other switches, so when you install, the stem catches on the cover due to the asymmetrical shape of the switch.

Sigh. Will report back after some shaving.
