Let's begin with some background:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

I was really angry about it. Not because he forgot about me. It was because I spent that much time in trying to figure it out, but it was a huge waste of time because I was wrong. That was when my desire to read and understand things sparked a flame that still burn today.

Now that’s settled, let’s continue with the topic of my desire for boys/men:

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

There is something about boys/men reading that gets me. The concentrating look. The determination to absorb data and process information. The ability to translate the transcribed. When a boy/man reads, he is thinking. Pictures are moving in his head, and opinions are being formed. And I find that sexy, somehow.

I threw myself at him, not literally. Somehow, he said yes to my wanting of him. We dated for the rest of the year then broke up over the December holiday.

So how I came to only date men that read two books a week?

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

So I now know what I preferred in men. So now I only date men who read two books a week. Of course I went out on first dates with several men since, but they didn’t develop since they don’t fit the profile I was looking for: two books a week.

Which is good, because now I don’t waste time with men who I know will eventually hurt us both with his indifference, to me and/or to reading.

Two books a week. No more, no less.

I used to read books and a frequent visitor of KL library. Now, now more because of lack of new books related to my interest. Maybe I'll hit the library this Thursday and see what they have in store.

I put a sexy women cleavage photo inside a novel/encyclopedia book, do a concentrating look, a strong determination to absorb data and process information & the amazing ability to translate picture into transcribed about how awesome the boobie is. When I "read"..... the awesome pictures are moving in my head, and opinions are being formed.

I like reading. But I am a person who has crazily wide range of interest. From gaming, tv series, board games, martial arts, gadgets and gizmos, comics, gym, animal husbandry and many more.

Combine that with work, house, social and family responsibilities, I think asking for 2 books per week is too much. I try to finish 2 books a month though. Because I am having too much time enjoying other things in life to just sit at home reading.

I don't actually read nowadays too

I "read" books in form of audiobooks from Audible.com

If I really like any of them I'll get the physical and electronic copy from Amazon.com

The electronic for disertation work and the physical book for proving points in offline meetings

I consider National Geography/Time/Newsweek as form of books too
*
Then internet articles should qualify. I read tonnes of interesting articles regarding health, nation and international interests, science and various others brought to me through Flipboard.

Why limit yourself to the physical books?

Eh I need to know more than just a screen name of someone to decides whether she is my type or not. Which is why I am always thankful for the creation of social media. From there we can see things she posted, can see her likes, interests etc without needing to waste a lot of time before deciding.

Well from my experience, doesn't matter how many books a man read, that doesn't mean he's witty enough about life nor elevate himself as a good man.

Hence the two books a week

He will have enough interest in reading to read

But not enough free time to spend in reading more

Presumaby because he has a job and life to take care of

Reading too many or too little will present problems

QUOTE(NXJ @ Jan 14 2014, 08:07 PM)
Hence the two books a week

He will have enough interest in reading to read

But not enough free time to spend in reading more

Presumaby because he has a job and life to take care of

Reading too many or too little will present problems
*
I don't think this is a good benchmark to define someone's personality tho.

Although I agree that you can try to decipher someone by looking at the things he do when he's free, but putting it solely on the numbers of books he read per week doesn't really provide solid perceptions.

For example, I love reading when I was in high school. I bought a lot of books, borrowed a lot too. But as I grow up I've read lesser books. It doesn't mean I'm far different than I am when I was a teenager, but things change, I adapt to new technologies and ways of life. I read lesser books now, but I talk to many different people about many different subjects. I also read up articles and news online while mixing around with many different people and listens to many different stories.

I think I'm absorbing informations effectively in these 'new' ways as much as i did while I'm reading books. I can sit down and watch a 3 hour movie without fidgeting, much as I can spend 3 days carefully reading a book i really love.

I'm not opposing your ideas of how you want to choose your men. I'm just simply presenting the idea that perspectives are subjective. I agree with you but there are other things that you may want to consider apart from a solid list of how you want things to be.

i stopped reading books ever since i signed up facebooks.

If you don’t think Facebook is a book, tell me why. Please. I want to know.

And if Facebook is a book, then it’s the most successful book since the Bible.

The original face book was a book—a directory of students and faculty, printed and distributed by universities. Did it stop being a book when it went online? Surely not. All kinds of books are digital now. Does it stop being a book because it has multiple contributors, color photos, and an interactive text that’s unique to each reader? Nope. Books have done all of that before.

I'm patronizing him mentioning about using "proper capitalization and punctuation" to refer to her as a "bookworm".
Capitalization and punctuation is a standard feature covering many languages using roman letters, no? Not just exclusive to English.

When I wrote that I am also addressing the rempit style of Malay as well, hence the use of language rather than English.

Urm, was OP using another language posting on LOLYAT most of the time? If not, why the need to misrepresent? johnkia was obviously illustrating OP's use of English. Logically, if you were considering a "comeback", you would be "lamenting" about the state of English otherwise the whole thing would be pointless yes?

TS ,I want to ask. How do you know the average of Kopitiam's average monthly salary since you mentioned that you earn one fifth of it ? Besides that, how certain are you that the value is correct ?

Let me analyse a little bit of your requirements:

1. Reading 2 books a week is possible if only at weekends. That means not much time for leisure like watching movies , or going to the beach and outdoor activities. So, homely but boring kind of guys or kind of nerdy type is your cup of tea ?

2. Most guys around 20+ ~ 30 years of age are busy working on weekdays including overtime or part time business to buy car and house before getting married. So not much time left for reading.

3. You are a librarian and I guess you need to work according to shifts ? I myself work in a private university too albeit not a librarian myself, and at my workplace, librarians work on Saturdays and Sundays ( half day for Sundays) .At my place during exam month, the library closes at 11pm. So you have time for dating ?

Conclusion is based on your requirements, how do you have time to date guys ?

Just my 2cents of thoughts ...

Yes, and when he did so, was he referring to other obscure languages? It seems clear as day he was talking about OP's English, which is quite often her choice of language posting on LOLYAT. I was merely poking fun of your unsubstantiated "superiority". Why so serious?

It usually means he has nothing else in life, such as a job

He will be busy enough with his work, and interested in reading enough to keep up his reading joneses with books/magazines

But not enough time to read more of it presumably due to other priorities in life

Such as a job

And I will be having more or less the same life

There will be time for seeing each other, movies, shopping, and reading

Just not 20 hours a week of it

Here's something to think about:

Why would I want to go on first date with someone not capable of any reading longer than Facebook statuses?

Not even remotely close to my profiling

Conclusion is based on your requirements, how do you have time to date guys ?

*
She is not interested in dating guys, she is merely interested in posting an opinion from her high horse. Two books a week is as vague as saying I only date girls that eat two meals a day.

If she is as big of a lover of books as she mentioned, she should know that one absolutely would not power through a book for the sake of finishing a book. I've just coming off a re-reading of Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions, and at a thing 300 odd pages have taken me a week or so. Some of the chapters required an effort to digest and the re-reading made me appreciative of it in another way that I totally missed the first time around.

She also failed to look at the kind of books one is reading to fulfill that two books criteria. I finished some easy stuff like Salmon Fishing in the Yemen and Gaiman's Graveyard Book in about 6 hours or so, respectively, when I went to Japan. I still struggle with Dostoyevsky, to the point that I needed a break from it before I dive back into it again.

Too lazy to go back and quote myself

But I do consider monthly magazines as "books"

They have themes, opening, and closures

And substantially more coherent information than a collection of news articles

Such as Newsweek, Bloomberg, Nat Geo, even Time

I read exactly 2 books per week sometimes lesser due to basketball training.

I'm a big fan of Dan Brown where I've started to read The Da Vinci Code , Angels and Demons , and the latest Inferno .

I also read mortal instrument series .

But for now I'm reading The Da Vinci Code 10th anniversary edition because I love it so much. I will read top gear/Cars/motor trader/sports zone every week.

I'm 6"1 tall with my foot size of 11 (UK)

I live in a decent house around Kota Kemuning , I play basketball at the lakeside basketball court weekly, I have a little bit of moustache + a permanent mark on my face below my left eye due to chicken pox.

I have no washboard-like abdomen nor a mouse on my arms.

But I gotta tell you a fact that ...

Thanks for sharing, hopefully you will meet your dreamed man soon.

For me in the past, I always like and chase girls with short hair and a bit tomboyish and cheerful attitude. But as I grow older, finally I realized such preference is just not enough, there's something that is much more important such as her inner ability to empathy and to love.

So, finally I gave up on my superficial requirements and start pursuing the latter.

It's good to have a preference, but if you meet such a good person but does not fit into your very specific model, then it will be a loss. But if you can gamble the years of your life to hunt such man and turns out to found the one that are perfect, then maybe you will be the happiest women on your own world.

If it is watered down to that definition, then anyone who watches a show, a movie, browsing a /k/ thread could possibly qualify for it. Newsweek and Time aren't even interesting anymore, their article mumble on incoherent points simply to generate 'shock', hoping it will boost their subscription. You would be better off asking your new SO to read The Guardian or The New Yorker. If you want a more relevant Nat Geo, get him to look at The Atlantic's In Focus instead (http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/).

Books is just another form of informative entertainment, I'd dread to be with someone who loves books to the extend they give no chance to other media's, or worse, any other lifestyle.

The main reason for the two books

Is to identify men with curiosity

And are interested in intelligent pursues

Should I meet someone who fits the bill though not with books

I don't mind binning the guidelines

Though books should take precedence simply because of my interest and job

It would be tough to spend time with people who can't stand the sight of books

Or people who don't understand my need to be silent and reading

The fact that you are more interested in a picture of me than the idea of me

Makes it impossible for us to consider each other as a date

A person with curiosity and are interested in intelligent pursues would not put all the eggs into books.

I agree it would be tough to spend time with people who can't stand the sight of books or people who don't understand my need to be silent and reading, that is an issue with his / her personality rather than the capability to read a arbitrary amount or books a week.

Anyhow, you seemed well learned and set on your priorities. I wish you all the best. Remember, "see the cat? see the cradle?" wink.gif

Sure or not? I frequent book stores around KL rarely see girl around any sector besides magazine leh.

Maybe, perhaps my perceptions are skewed by my sisters. But then again, rarely seeing females around there doesn't necessarily translate into females not being as much as a bookworm though.

Not sure who was saying "Ces't la vie" earlier, but it's actually "C'est la vie". Don't really mean to be anal, but that was bugging me quite a bit.

Three folds:

1. The way he reads his book

2. The knowledge he gains from reading said book

3. The fact that he is curious enough to read a book, presumably to satisfy his curiosity sparked by the book

Makes it impossible for us to consider each other as a date

So a picture of me for you would be wasted

So no picture for you

So what ure really trying to achieve here then? To be another siowgirl? Or just trying to fish for a bookworm to be your date so that both of you click in the sense of materials to fill up your time?

since we're negotiating, could the two book be a book instead?
then again; it would depend the depth and thickness of the book.
two books a week would roughly sum up almost half of my leisure time--wouldn't that mean i would have lesser time with you?

i've an average speed in reading so i guess a book a week would be considered fair enough... biggrin.gif

If we are to study my method of men choosing

The whole thing is very shallow

But then again I believe it is fair to have a certain demand, however ridiculous

Some people prefer cuffs in bed, I prefer men who reads

It is completely up to the other party to accept said condition or not

I like my man the way I had my breakfast for the last decade

Decent body - No
Knowledge & Wisdom - I know in theory how to land an A330 Airbus, and how to open a bottle of wine without cockscrew, and many random bits I've read over the year. I definitely know in which aisle and shelve the 7th edition of Marcus's Business Strategy is at in the library I work at.

As mentioned, it is an arbitrary way to determine if a guy is worth dating

If he reads more than two books a week, he probably love whatever he's reading more than dating

If he reads less than two books a week, he probably don't have enough attention span to finish a more-than-a-day project or activity

Books come in different size and length

Ideally he should be busy with his work, yet interested in reading enough to read two books a week

But not free enough to read more than that presumably due to other priorities

Such as a job

I also vaguely consider magazines as books since they generally have coherent theme, opening, and closures

Well , I'm not in a position to say anything here as I'm barely 18 , but to be honest when I was at school , I always shied away from telling people that I love reading books , especially the girls . Because ( believe it or not ) all of the girls in my class weren't readers ( I'm a guy ) . Not even a single book per year . shakehead.gif

I think the thing about books is they make you think . You analyse more and speak less . I really like deep talks about something that I'm passionate about , but the girls I met preferred random chats . Hence , I wasn't able to fit in if all I could ever do was to talk about symbol hunting when reading a thought provoking book . I also built an identity , a rather different one than who I really am . Being a teenager who is still finding my identity , I'm worried about how girls judge me . I was under the impression that they only like men who spoke loudly and are extroverted in nature .

Now that I've graduated from high school and have months of free time , I'm indulging in my interest . blush.gif

You seem a little bit out of place here . I've read your book reviews and I wish more people had commented .

Continue doing what you're doing ! icon_rolleyes.gif

exactly!! as a school student , I could tell you that no girls (maybe 1 in in a million) who like boys that read books !

sometimes I read early in the morning in my school's arch. then if I see girls coming over , I'll just put It down or take it away because as far as I know those female students dislike introverted guys or bookworm.

that's why my identity in my school is a basketball pro + a cool guy that asks question bravely .

my girlfriend now is a bit special one for me that doesn't swears nor smokes but she doesn't read as well ...

but you here has no good body figure nor a pretty face which i like actually since i found girls that like to read with a black square framed glasses looks cute but tough in their heart .

come on , this is the type I want !!

Looks like you're the kind of person who likes to live in their head, based on how much you like reading. But you'd be hard pressed to find men who read 2 books a week. Assuming you have requirements for what kind of books / literature they read as well, it'll make it all the more difficult to find the kind of man you like.

That is why TS requirements doesn't make sense.

Todey want read at least 2 books.

Tomorrow say read more than 2 books means he loves books more than her.

Next week say read 2 magazines OK (including Nuts).

It's like saying must eat Kangkung. Doesn't matter what Kangkung as long as you eat 500grams of Kangkung each week.

Definition of Book is very wide, how wide? As wide as a Border's bookshop.

When you simply say 2 books, that includes any books, be it novel books, story books, comic books, photo books, textbooks, calender book.

Aladdin never teach you to be more specific when making wishes?

Maybe you should write down your definition of "BOOK".

it's all based on ur interest and ur sense of responsibility but all these do not affect by the fact a person likes to read or not.

if the term "project" that u mentioned is the kind which is responsibility which entrust on someone, that someone must be obligated to complete it.

or if the term "project" that u mentioned is some kind of project/interest initiated by an individual for his/her satisfaction, that depends on the passion of that individual for the "project" that he/she planned.

Reading your post was a very refreshing change of pace compared to reading all the other sub par verbal plays used prolifically in this forum. Especially the term "ayam". God I hate this forum for that. I always imagine the person using it as having a very annoying nasally tone.

Anyway, I admire your stance and the clarity in which you state your requirement of men. It's heartening to see a girl actually knowing what she wants and not beat around the bush.

+1 internet for you.

it's all based on ur interest and ur sense of responsibility but all these do not affect by the fact a person likes to read or not.

if the term "project" that u mentioned is the kind which is responsibility which entrust on someone, that someone must be obligated to complete it.

or if the term "project" that u mentioned is some kind of project/interest initiated by an individual for his/her satisfaction, that depends on the passion of that individual for the "project" that he/she planned.

If you would kindly go through the recent 5 pages

You will know I use this 2 books reading a week as a method to identify men with curiosity and responsibility

And the capability of intelligent pursuing presumably to satisfy said curiosity

No more, no less.

by means of swear and no proper mannerism, they dare to speak out and not hold back when talking to ppl which make their human network stronger (based on my exp on those who r in construction sector, of coz it is not applicable to all sectors/ppl)

btw, not that sure what u trying to imply or any relevancy to this topic  laugh.gif

+1 internet for you.

reading is knowledge, knowledge is a tool
opportunity is a ticket for u to use ur tool

with strong network, u have a higher chance to get opportunity, which in turns to show ur knowledge or earn one hands on.
without interpersonal skill, who r u going to prove that u suitable for the job? who is going to give u a chance to learn and get that skill?
(which is what i see daily, some ppl who doesn't hone the skill to be higher up, but still being the top of company, why? coz of network)

if u do not have network, ur knowledge will just be knowledge which will rot with the flow of time.

Its actually relatively easy to finish 2-3 books a week. I work a 9-5 job and can easily finish 3 books a week although I have to actively stop myself from doing so. Books don't come cheap and I'm not financially well-endowed enough to afford splurging on books like that. But during college days without access to a good library, I can easily go through 11-12 books a month. So.. yeah, it's not impossible. Just that most choose not to =)

for me. knowledge come in many forms, reading is just one of the way to gain knowledge, reading definitely can't improve everything because knowing the context itself doesn't means u're good at it when it come to real situation. some people can perfect an equation, but they never build an equation of their own, hence not everyone is a genius because genius create and invent not just reading it for existing knowledge.

what, it's not that hard

but i go through 1 book a week, have a busy schedule which means I dont have that much time to read. And some of the older books from the 60s have different linguistic structure compared to modern literature.

i think TS has stated what she wants, the 2 books a week is just a conjecture based on what she actually wants in a man. If she finds other activities which result in the "concentrating , doushen look" that she likes, then she will probably extend that list to include that.

for non career pov on human, rather than the knowledge that they have, i prefer to "test" on their views on events, news in life.
from my encounters, knowledge of a person does not guarantee wisdom and rationality of how a person thinks (but it helps), rather it is the person's life experience, whether it breaks or makes them stronger. For me, that's the attractiveness & maturity that i'm interested in for a human being.

Miss NXJ, i admire your determination on your stands of your requirement for your life-long partner. However, I find it rather peculiar that you has fixed a specific volume of books that are require to be read in your requirement. I has read every pages of this thread and I admits that it was rather entertaining, perhaps, i forgot a few clues that you has previously answered. I want to know why you limit the amount of volume that a person shall read to be 2 and not more or less?

Which mean, if a person who are passionate in reading , he may read exactly 2 books or more than 2 books in a week or in a predefined time frame. So, I believe you shall actually disregard to the volume that a person read per week, perhaps, make it as a minimum requirement instead of limiting the volume that ones shall read and not more.

Besides that, you said Enimo has most probably read more books than TheEvilMan. However, by logic, if Enimo has been doing a lot of reading, there are quite some possibilities that the total volume of books that he has read, be it magazines, journals, books related to his fields and so on will be exceeding the 2 books per week requirement. Logically, he will has failed to meet your requirement since you stated that only 2 books and not more or less. Yet, you said that you do love to date him out. In other word, you are not following the own requirements that you has set it yourself. You got great determination which is a good thing, but you seem to be lack of realistic.

You also mentioned that you got no motives in finding a man in here to be your partner, then i am wondering what is the motive that you open this thread? IF you do not have the motive to find a man here, why you bother to list out your requirements by opening this threads and get bombarded by a tons of /k/tard here? It is like you purposely open this thread and give chances to give you bad remarks or even insults on you, this is where I find that there simply no logic behind this thread.

Besides that, a person who read 2 books may also be aggressive, arrogant and other bad behaviours as well. Normally I find it funny that girls tend to be more choosy than guys without aware that there are shelf-life on their beauties. You read a lot of books, you are surely aware that men are generally visual animal, which mean that we emphasize on the appearance. However of course there are some men who do not have that high expectation on the beauties of a specific girl and they can be a good bf/husband as well , by caring and loving you and be responsible in taking care of you, supporting you and so on. But then you will not even consider him to be your partner since you want a person who read 2 books per week. With this, what I mean is you may be throwing away hell a lot of opportunity to be together with a good and caring person. In the end, where your beauties starting to expire, you yourself becoming more and more desperate and ended up be together with a man who may or may not read 2 books per week but didn't treat/ care you as good as those guys who previously considering you.

To make it worst, you said that nobody has ever initiate themselves on you, often you are the 1 who make the 1st move, so this means that your market is already not that great yet you still can think of setting up some unrealistic requirements. Like I said in other thread before, I has talks to a lot of girls in my life and sometimes i find that they are rather funny, some of them certainly do not go by logic, or i simply failed to brain the logic behind their motives or actions.

Lastly, I got no intention to offend you, i am merely pointing out what I am thinking straightforwardly. Since Enimo has been requesting your facebook, i believe your mission shall be accomplished by now.

Huiyo! There are a couple of other errors as well, I'm doing my best to suppress the Grammar Nazi in me from lashing out. laugh.gif

MasBoleh!, TS stated earlier in the thread that her "requirement" is more of a guideline, i.e she expects someone who reads 2 books a week to have a good balance between a life (responsibilities, dating, etc) & a passion that she shares (reading). The number is not fixed (from what I gathered in her clarifications), she will give leeway if she sees potential in a guy who is consistent with her expectations mentioned before.

Why suddenly everyone become grammar nazi on my post. laugh.gif

Well, the definition for requirements and guidelines are certainly different.

TS has been constantly insisting 2 books, not more and not less. Which mean her clarification are not well defined nor understood by others or even her own self.

That is psychology , have a good package surely attract more people to purchase that particular product. That is why never judge a product by its packages. wink.gif

Not trying to be offensive here but you sound shallow and judgmental TS. "Two books a week" sounds more like a fetish than a requirement for me. I would assume it's because the first man you took interest in, had the characteristics.

TS's legs for those who are lazy or incapable of finding the search button.
