Media spin? FSG's refusal to release funds (considering Brenda's poor transfer record in the summer)? Ian Ayre's incompetence?

Take a pick.

Read some forums somewhere, seems BR's buys (record) were abysmal. FSG isn't gonna sanction over top dollar for players valuation. Most likely nada transfer at all in this january.

Sit tight, we are gonna be a interesting 2nd half of the season.

I suppose we need to find every grit, strength at every socks, boots, players dressing room we can muster for the remaining season.

Does a last minute loaning a player in a transfer window count?

Last summer signing, Ilori, Aspas, Alberto, mostly sitting on the bench, and only play bid part coming from the bench.

Apart Sakho, previously summer signings mostly are not making into the starting XI in most matches.

As far, my view, so far only 2 signing that are good.
Sturridge and Coutinho.

That would not no making sense the FSG not supportive in this transfer market. From their point of view, the manager buy the players and not using them effectively, but place them on bench and withdrawing the wages.

I wonder what was the point of BR appointing Agger as vice-captain at the beginning of the season. Even when he was fit, he didn't get to start. And now, rumors about him being sold are being spread.

I don't think Ilori and Alberto were expected to be first team regulars but Aspas surely was and he's been a disappointment thus far. With the likes of Agger, Skrtel and Toure at the back, I thought Sakho would have a tougher time breaking into the first team but it seems he's jumped ahead of our vice captain in the queue.

The lack of any transfer activity is a concern. I'd expected at least to have bolstered the midfield. Well if we fail to strengthen the squad, I'm hoping that we give the young uns like Alberto a chance and they come good in the way Sterling has.

Well Carra was vice captain last season and he hardly featured during the middle part of it. I think Agger was a natural choice given his attributes and given that there was talk of BR wanting to ship Skrtel to Napoli, I reckon he had a first team pairing of Agger and Sakho in mind but then Skrtel put on a performance of the season against the mancs. Don't think BR expected the Slovakian to grow in stature and cement himself in the first team.

BR is angry too, well according to the media anyway...

With this season being our best chance to be in the top 4 for the first time in a long time, I find it very sad and depressing that the club is not ambitious enough to take some risk by spending a little more to ensure we finish in the top 4. I say the owners are not ambitious enough, and perhaps a touch of cowardice. We know we've been burned before with the Carroll and Downing deal, but transfers are always risky, you'll have to take some risk. That's just the way it is. Being so stingy wont help us get into the top 4.

While BR don't always get his transfers right, you'll have to ask yourself this question: Do you trust the manager or not? If you trust him, then get him the players he wants. If you don't, then why hire him in the first place.

Not impressed at all by the so-called "transfer committee".

Looks like we all talk to Henry and BR a lot and understand their daily routine in the transfer market as well as what players signing strategy, finances.

We all should look into new career path...advising club managers and owners on what to do. tongue.gif

Edit - on a side note, I'd rather we not sign anyone than desparately dumping 37.1M pounds on a player sitting on a bench. So now they have spent 27M for an afro (who is not playing?) and 37M for a player who fell behind. Let's see how that works out...

And the so called assist wizard who was signed for more than Suarez, has only 1 assist more than Gerrard.

Well only time will tell if we were right not to go above our valuation for Salah. I have a suspicion he'll be quite a handful to manage.

Not the first time FSG have refused to go above what they felt a player is worth. Same thing happened with Clint Dempsey and as a result, we were lightweight upfront before we signed Sturridge later in the year. The problem is, if a player is worth it, wealthy clubs have no qualms going above the valued amount. This means we're looking at signing obscure players who are out of favour like Countinho was because our rivals are less likely to bid for them.

We're linked with Arda Turan (again) now but so are Citeh. Oh well.

agreed not signing anyone desperately but to miss out on Salah is bad. is not that i wanted salah to be in Liverpool, but its the way it was handled. salah & dempsey style now over the stur & cout style.

sometimes the galvanising effect is more important to lift the club
37M is spent on a world class player is a fact. whether it will solve the problem at that club is another

assist wizard broght believe to the club and make them a title contender rather than a top 4 club. still i think they lacked leadership to win the EPL.

I'm not sure how it was handled, but I guess, just maybe, we have a trasnsfer cap on Salah, whoever outbids us at xx million, we will not go ahead and I thought his playing style is very much like Hazard?

It's stupid to go head to head outbidding each other especially with the likes of Chelsea and City.

This I agree.

My main concerns are the thin squad positions of the DM and LB.
Surely the DM position requires reinforcement with the obvious lack of preferred personnel with
Lucas injured and if the last few games are anything to go by, we will leak many more goals
with Hendo and Stevie in front of the defence!

Not only LB, I think RB needs strengthening as well. Sigh, we never have the whole package do we. When we had Riise, Carra, Hyppia and Finnan; Gerrard, Alonso and Masch and Torres...I think that's the closest we have ever gotten to having a full good team. That culminated in our 2nd place finish. When people started leaving, we never truly replaced them with quality (barring our front 2 of course)
