Some positives from last night's match, other than the goals and goalscorers :-
1) Stevie G, current England captain schooled Jack Wilshere, future England captain. He and Henderson did what Arteta, Ozil and Wilshere failed to do I.e. protect the back four. It was because of Hendo's persistence that we scored our third. Wilshere barged into our captain as he made a clearance pass towards the end of the first half. Stevie G returned the favour in the second half by sending him hurtling off the pitch. Nice.
2) Our fullbacks were amazing defensively. How many crosses did Arsenal muster? Cissokho looks like a fish out of water going forward but he was a rock in defence making crunching tackles early on. Chamberlain hardly got a look in.
3) Sturridge scored our fourth and then went on to ensure that Coutinho got the recognition he deserved for playing him through with a brilliantly weighted pass. It was the same for Sterling after Suarez laid it on a platter for our third. Always good to see the lads showing appreciation for one another.
4) If there was any doubt over Coutinho's persistence, it should be cast aside after his encounter with Wilshere in the first half. The diminutive Brazilian was constantly snapping at his heels much to Wilshere's displeasure. The pair exchanged words and it was good to see Coutinho unperturbed by confrontation. Cissokho literally went head to head with Wilshere later on as well.
Please feel free to add to the list.
5) Sterling has been mightily impressive this season. The SaS are the two main threats but Sterling imo is up there as one of the key players for us this season. At this rate, the SaS will soon change to SSS. I think it's unbelievable that he's only 19 and doesn't even look out of place alongside Suarez, Sturridge and Coutinho. He seems to fit in just perfectly, so much so that BR trusted Sterling to spearhead our attack after taking off Suarez and Sturridge. His pace is there for all to see but it's his intelligence and speed of thought that have been the most impressive for me.
6) Skrtel has become one the most defensively reliable player in the team right now. Yes we still leaking the odd goals here and there but i think he has put in a different shift the past few months. I don't see him tugging shirt nearly as much as before and he seems a lot more assure of himself. I used to get nervous whenever he was on the ball but this is not the case lately and in fact I actually find myself thinking out loud for Mignolet to pass it to Skrtel whenever we are trying to play from the back. Really pleased for him to score 2 goals, the 2nd in particular was a thing of beauty.
