Meanwhile, Oto Melara confirmed that it was marketing the upgrade to its 76/62 mm medium gun to Malaysia. The Strales upgrade will allow RMN 76 mm guns to fire DART(Driven Ammunition Reduced Time of flight) projectile as a last ditch defence against missiles and other low flying threat.

LUMUT: Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) Auxiliary Ship Bunga Mas Enam (BM6) set sail to the Indian Ocean this morning.

The logistics-assistance ship has been roped in to help in the SAR operation of the missing MH370 aircraft.

The ship left the RMN operations jetty here about 8.40am.

BM6 is the seventh ship which had been sent to the Indian Ocean.

It is expected to arrive at the southern corridor on Apr 25 for a period of three months.

He was referring to the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) MRCA programme which is estimated to cost between RM6 billion and RM8 billion in the long-term for the procurement of new fighter aircraft to replace the ageing MiG-29 fleet and other aircraft.

RMAF is looking at replacing three squadrons with 36 to 40 new fighter aircrafts and currently evaluating four fighters under a programme, one of which is the Rafale fighter aircraft from Dassault Aviation of France.

KOTA KINABALU, April 28 (Bernama) -- The newly-launched Task Force 450 of the Fifth Infantry Division under the Malaysian Army will soon be stationed at the Paradise Camp in Kota Belud to help strengthen the security system in Sabah.

Army Chief General Datuk Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor said the final decision on the relocation date of the force would be made after the camp was completed and equipped with the necessary facilities and equipment.

The task force (for Sabah) launched on April 2, and temporarily operating at the Lok Kawi Camp, acts as a nucleus for the establishment of the Fifth Division Malaysian Infantry in Kota Kinabalu and to help strengthen the defence and preserve the nation's sovereignty.

"We have chosen the camp based on its nostalgia and history. I have been briefed on the progress of upgrading works on this camp and this follows the relocation of the task force in this camp after it is fully ready," he told reporters here Monday.

Raja Mohamed Affandi said the Fifth Brigade Infantry Malaysia established 50 years ago in Sabah will be placed under the administration of the Task Force 450 and remain fully operational at Lok Kawi Camp.

He earlier visited a member of the military, Abdul Md Latif Joseph who was involved in an accident while on duty in Bakapit, Lahad Datu on Friday.

Abdul Latif, 21, from Kedah suffered a head injury and reported in stable condition.

SHAH ALAM: Despite the apparent softening of the defence budget due to the overall’s country economic condition, Avibras, the Brazilian manufacturer of the MLRS system in service with the Army remained bullish on its prospects in Malaysia.

This despite the widely reported “loss” of the sale of the third MLRS regiment set to be announced at DSA 2012.Speaking to Malaysian Defence at the recent DSA 2014, an Avibras representative nonetheless sounded upbeat about the company’s prospects.

“We are not only talking about the third regiment but also the fourth regiment. We also are also talking about the new 300km rocket under development in Brazil,” the representative said when asked about the company plans in Malaysia.
