BANGKOK: A Lao military aircraft carrying top officials including its defence minister crashed on Saturday
in the north of the Communist country, a Thai official said, without giving details of any casualties.

The aircraft was carrying about 20 people including Defence Minister  Douangchay Phichit, the Vientiane governor
and other prominent figures, foreign  ministry spokesman Sek Wannamethee told AFP quoting information from the
Thai embassy in Vientiane.
 
There was no immediate confirmation from Laos’s secretive communist  government.

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Navy says it is investigating a possible violation of Indonesian territory by Malaysia on Tanjung Datuk Island, which is located on the border between Indonesia's West Kalimantan and Sarawak, said The Jakarta Post.

Unconfirmed reports on Monday said that the Indonesian Navy in the regional capital of Pontianak had received information about the alleged border violation from Pontianak’s Navigation District Office on Saturday.

According to the information, a signal light is being installed on Tanjung Datuk by Malaysia and the country has violated Indonesian territory in the area.

The Navy has sent a ship to the island and a Navy aircraft has taken aerial photographs of the activities in the disputed area, the Antara news agency reported.

As of Sunday, activities to install the signal light were continuing on the island.

The Navy headquarters in Jakarta also reportedly confirmed that it had sent a Navy ship to the location in order to verify the allegations.

A Navy official in Pontianak, who refused to be identified, confirmed the Navy is still investigating the issue.

Tanjung Datuk lies on the border between the district of Paloh in the regency of Sambas, West Kalimantan, and Sarawak.

The Tanjung Datuk area, which includes the sand ridge of Gosong Niger in the sea, as well as Camar Wulan on the main island, is still a disputed area between the two neighboring countries. - The Jakarta Post/ANN

I thought ship are cheaper than fighter jets?
At the same time, ship crew requirement are not as stringent as pilots.

Now days lot of countries build small and stealthty fac/missile boat some even with good range of SAM.
anyway if both fighters and ship are network it would produce even greater force multiplier.
