Am planning to buy a new Vios but I heard from one of the Hyundai SA (who has a Toyota SA friend) that J spec would take another 2 months to arrive (new batch I assume). Any possibility of Toyota fixing the issues with noisy dashboard and etc with the new batch? I gave up reading when I have reached around page 30. Please enlighten me tongue.gif

Two questions I have regarding that.

1. Can we even ask them to sign an agreement?
2. Ultimately, they would not be able to do anything about the problem we face, no? They can't possibly offer a 1 to 1 replacement and we will be redirected to SC wouldn't we?

Hopefully they will get it fixed with the next batch. Will probably go and test drive the car this two weeks. Will ask if there's any news of them fixing the problem. Are these the only problems with the car?

1. Noisy dashboard when going through bumps
2. Hollow sound from car boot
3. Poor sound insulation during rain (can we even ask for warranty for this?)

By the way, which batch of Vios is that started to have the noise problem? I have been doing a little bit of reading on 2013 and 2014 Vios. They are both third gens but are there any differences between them? The review for 2013 Vios even says that it has a quieter cabin which contradicts the major complain here. Are there any friends (or friends of friends) who got a Vios without any problem?

The complainant here says that they can hardly listen to the radio when it is raining. That description sure is far from "having a quieter cabin" as quoted by the reviews.

Are test drive cars modified in anyway to be better than the cars for sale? or can I expect my car to be the same as the test drive model?

Anybody here who can make a comparison between J/E spec with G spec here in terms of sound insulation? Are there any major differences? I don't mind it being a little noisy, I hardly drive past 120km/h. I suppose the acoustic windshield would not affect me too much. It is the noise during rainy times that concerned me D=

Am still wavering between 2014 Vios and City. In the forum itself it seems like there is very little problem with the new City but the car is relatively new so it can't be compared too well yet.

Al the problems with the current Vios seems to be more NVH/comfort-based which can be and will be solved eventually. Maybe a few not-so-well placed mountings and insulation?

I am prioritizing fuel efficiency and maintenance cost over most features offered by both. Is the sound problem with the car really unbearable? City's design is nice and all but I have a thing for Vios, although its new incarnation does not look as nice xD

Sounds like you are really really unhappy with your purchase. Are you problems fixed by the way? I saw you installing sound insulators around page 20~30 but I gave up reading after that xD

Roxy how long have you been driving your Vios? Am going to have my test drive on Friday, any condition that I need to simulate those knocking/annoying sounds that anyone here is facing? I hope that they have a new batch that solves the problem. Is there any new Vios owner here with less apparent noise issue?

20 km/h with minimal brake. It is like the sound should appear every time anyone drives the car. I wonder if no one complained about that during their test drives

@g88 It is very possible but I have no idea how their internal working is. At any rate, if I'm going to buy the Vios then I'll buy from her friend. Hyundai cars are rather expansive for a sedan (compared to Vios of course)

I went for my test drive today (G-spec, no J-spec test units available). I noticed the 'thud' sound when going over bumps but the sound is so muffled that I would have a hard time noticing if I didn't pay attention. If I drive at my usual speed over the bumps then there would be no sound at all.

Noise intrusion starts around 100 km/h but I do not think the noise is anyhow unacceptable. I'm currently driving a Wira and my sound intrusion would be around 50 to 60% louder at only 80 km/h.

Overall I think Vios is by no means unacceptable with all the problems highlighted in this thread. They are mostly NVH problems that can be solved. If you do not previously own a car that really gives you a comfortable, very quiet ride then this car would not disappoint.

It should also be noted that however, the pickup of this car feels rather underwhelmed (I hope that going for full tank petrol would make it better, my petrol indicator was on during the test drive) but I heard that it is a feature to promote better fuel consumption. I personally take off slowly so it fits my style. The noise is noticeable but if you hardly go on highway or is not a speed freak, it would still be acceptable at 110~120 km/h. The Vios is not that wide in the inside so the rear passengers would have to cramp themselves quite a bit. The foot space is rather pleasant, surprisingly (in other words, the car is more of a long car than a wide car).

I am still deciding if I should give City a test drive. I am prioritizing FC and long-term maintenance over all other factors and I think Vios would fulfill my expectations. I drive gently most of the time and I hardly drive at even 100km/h. I am used to 80 to 90km/h due to my Wira's loud noise at that speed. Any other opinions? Preferably experience instead of opinions biggrin.gif

By the way Roxy, have you faced any part breakdown so far? Maintenance is a big issue to me tongue.gif

I have been looking for some directions in this thread. Window tint advice needed. Generally, brands like VKool, 3M and Huber Optik are good but most of the good ones would cost around 1.4k at least. There are some posts that say that RM 300 tints are either fake or crap mostly. Try giving it a read =D

Let's hope that it doesn't happen. That test unit would have been there for quite awhile already. I can't expect them to change their units every month or two. Seeing how my Toyota SC friend complains about how often they see this problem I sure hope that it gets rectified

Perhaps the problem stem from a little more than that. Some improper measurement instead of a part failure? Is the knocking sound loud for you now anyway? the one I heard was so muffled that I have to pay attention to hear it. Not to mention that I have to deliberately go through bumps with minimal brakes.

Line is terribly slow and the line couldn't load the link properly. So it pretty much says that there's higher fuel consumption for new cars?

You must have spent like 5k on the sound insulation already. It should be as quiet as a BMW now wouldn't it? There's still more to come? I kinda remember you did the roof and boot before. Now even the flooring is done. You're pretty much remodeling your whole internal. Haha

How come the price difference is so much between the two insulations? Roxy did more insulation? Might do it also if the car is too noisy on highway

Is the NVH problem of third gen Vios the same as second gen Vios?

What is HU by the way?

Getting my car in mid August. Given how I have driven an 18 years old Wira for my whole life, I suppose it will not be worse? Hahaha

Well, if they are both of the same noise level then I should be okay with that. I can hardly hear myself at 80km/h in my old Wira. Others would probably die in it. Hahaha

Ordered J spec. Planning to change the radio after getting it. Will it void the warranty (any possibility if the handiwork is bad)?

You changed it from third party vendor I suppose? Does the price differ greatly from Toyota itself?
