This Google Play location services is starting to get on my nerve, keep waking my phone and prevent WiFi from going off. Now trying the Snapdragon Guru to see how it works.

May consider root. Do I still get direct OTA if I stay on stock ROM with root privilege?

Yes, as long as you're on stock ROM and kernel. and also I believe if you don't mess with the system files

May get noFrill or setCPU (what's the best downclock apps now?) to downclock and change the governor. Perhaps a little bit of Xposed module?

Do CM, PA or AOKP provide quick OTA now? My only issue with custom ROM is the annoyance to go into recovery and flash the update very often. Has there been a good workaround now? My last extensive custom ROM experience was back in 2012. LOL!

I can only speak for CM since I use it extensively. You can search for new CM OTAs manually from the settings menu and it'll handle the update for you.
Alternatively, you can get the official CM installer app + desktop app and it'll do everything needed to get CM on your phone for you in a few clicks.

I believe using Xposed changes some system files so you won't get OTA. however, if you update, you'll lose root (just maybe fyi tongue.gif )

Not sure. Quite some time I haven't use CM/PA ( I don't use AOKP )
Lol, they have updates but not very frequent (except CM nightlies probably). Maybe you can flash the updates once every fortnight or month.

Sounds neat. So I don't need to enter recovery myself to flash the zip? Or I still need to, just there will be scripts to run everything for me?

Hmm, what custom ROM do you use? Prefer to run things in an easy to manage manner - not some custom ROM + custom kernel and whenever there's an update, I'll have to mess with everything again.

I personally don't use the CM Installer as I use the recovery method to flash the exact ROM version I want (nightly or stable or snapshot etc..)
I don't think you will need to go through the recovery if you use the CM Installer way; even if you do, I heard it's guided really well, almost no chance to make mistake one

Then it's hard to tell because custom ROM and custom kernels are being update by the dev (active roms and kernels). I'm using Cataclysm rom; I'm using the Dec 12, 2013 rom version (so far is smooth for me and I don't need too much customization, so it's perfect for me), and faux kernel. Now I just update kernel only whenever faux release a new version.

Or you can use the kernel that comes with the rom. Then you can just flash the rom whenever got update.

Sounds like an easy option. Let's see what can I do in the next few days.

Lol. Who uses the default settings haha xD. But yes, it's recommended by the dev himself, nothing wrong with it. I have my own settings; when I was still using elementalx.

That is the last version for cataclysm, no further updates. Dev is missing.. laugh.gif Probably will be back when there is update from Google. Not good for people who are craving to flash daily.

Everything works for me on this ROM.

Well...me laugh.gif

The default settings are already tuned by the Dev so it is different from stock kernel. But I don't feel any difference, so i stayed stock. For those who wants to push the device further, then yea, they will have their own settings...

I like to follow active dev that update weekly, and I enjoy flash flash.... brows.gif
I make some little changes in setting before flash, such as slightly OC to 2.3, UV to 70, etc....

Just finished applying my nillkin glass screen protector. It was quite an easy process since its glass so much easier to hold. Only problem is with glass screen protector, you need to get it right during the first try if you dont want to mess up the end results lol. I applied, then noticed there was a dust under it, lifted it up & removed the dust but it was quite hard since the adhesive is quite strong. It was a success but I ended up with another tiny dust at the bottom instead laugh.gif Not a big deal la for me, I can live with it. Plus I was doing it under a fan so this is one of the reason tongue.gif

No spider web effect etc but when applying I notice you can "see" the adhesive, just use your nails on the screen & it will go away. Kinda hard to explain, you will know what I mean when you apply it yourself. So far its been great, I can confirm it works with both neo hybrid & ultra hybrid with no peeling effect or whatsoever as long as you align it properly when applying the screen protector.

I am not sure how you guys get your spider web effect, maybe doing in a shower (moisture) have something to do with this, I did mine in my room. Anyways will be letting go my ultra hybrid soon, those who are interested can check later brows.gif

Good for u...I m too lazy to flash all the time. Since N5 is so buttery smooth, I felt like there is no difference changing kernels so often
