Alvarez: Filled in for both De Bruyne and Haaland brilliantly from August until February, although missed the chance to be a hero in the FA Cup Final. 8
Haaland: Struggled with form and injuries for a big chunk of the season and yet still scored 38 goals. A phenomenon. 9
Guardiola: He's still got it, hasn't he? Dragged fresh motivation out of his players and led them superbly all season – even if he shouldered the blame for the FA Cup Final. 9

2024 European Championships
Group A, Manuel Akanji and Switzerland will face hosts Germany, as well as Scotland and Hungary.
Group B, Rodri and Spain will go head-to-head with Manchester City teammates and Croatia international duo Mateo Kovačić and Joško Gvardiol.
Group C, the Manchester City contingent of Kyle Walker, John Stones, Jack Grealish, and Phil Foden have all been called up to the England squad. They will face Slovenia, Denmark, and Serbia.
Group D, Nathan Aké and the Netherlands will face Poland, Austria, and France.
Group E, Kevin De Bruyne and Jérémy Doku have been placed into a difficult collective with Belgium. Their national team will face Slovakia, Romania, and Ukraine.
Portuguese players Rúben Dias and Bernardo Silva, as well as Manchester City-loaned defender Joăo Cancelo, will compete in Group F. They will face Turkey, Georgia, and Czechia.
As for the rest of the Manchester City first-team squad, there are several members who will not travel to EURO 2024. Rico Lewis, Matheus Nunes, Stefan Ortega, Sergio Gómez, and Scott Carson, as well as the on loan Kalvin Phillips, James McAtee, and Josh Wilson-Esbrand, were not selected by their respective national teams to partake in EURO 2024.
Erling Haaland and Oscar Bobb will not be participating as Norway failed to qualify.

Why are Manchester City suing the Premier League?
Matt Lawton reports that Manchester City are suing the Premier League for damages alongside attempts to end Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules, which they claim are ‘unlawful’, and ‘discriminates against Gulf ownership’ within the division.
Reports that a Premier League club was planning legal action against the rule first surfaced in February 2024.

What are the Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules?
APT rules were brought in by the Premier League in December 2021 following the Saudi-backed takeover of Newcastle United, aiming to prevent clubs from signing commercial deals at inflated prices, which could enable teams to spend even greater sums on player transfers.

What is Manchester City’s argument?
Manchester City reportedly argue that sponsors linked to club owners should be allowed to determine how much they want to pay, and also believe that the system of requiring at least 14 clubs, or two-thirds of those who vote, to implement rule changes gives the majority ‘unacceptable’ levels of control.
The Times reveal also that Manchester City will argue that APT rules limit a club’s ability to buy the best players and will force them to charge fans more for tickets, as well as potentially leading to spending cuts on youth development, women’s football and community programmes.
It will be further argued by Manchester City that the Premier League failed to regulate spending when clubs such as Manchester United were more dominant, believing that APT rules have prevented the Sky Blues from monetising their brand in the way United did.

What has been the reaction of other Premier League clubs?
The Times claim that at least one other top-flight side has submitted a witness statement in support of Manchester City’s case, meanwhile more than half have sided with the Premier League.
Earlier this year, The Athletic revealed that Manchester City, Burnley, Chelsea, Everton, Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United and Wolves had all voted against a series of new proposals to block affiliate transactions.

Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak has now addressed the future of Guardiola, telling the club’s in-house channel that the two parties will look to find a “solution” imminently.
“This decision is always a decision that we will take together, and I have no doubt that we will find, as always, as always we have done, the right solution that works for Pep and works for us,” said al-Mubarak.
“It’s hard to put into words what Pep [Guardiola] has given Man City. You can look at just records for history’s sake, and there I think he’s racked up every record almost in the book and these are records that I think will be very, very hard, in the future to break.
“His impact on football, English football has changed with the evolution to the type of football Pep [Guardiola] has brought.”

Club chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak has issued a new update on the case to supporters, acknowledging the impact the charges are having on those associated with the club.
“Let’s be judged by the facts and not by claims and counter-claims,” he said.
“Of course it’s frustrating. I think the references are always frustrating, having it being talked about the way it’s being talked about. I can feel of course for our fanbase, for everyone associated with the club, to have these charges constantly referenced.
“I think we as a club have to respect that there is a process that we have to go through and we are going through it. It’s taking longer than anyone hoped for but it is what it is.”
It was revealed earlier this week that Manchester City were set for a second legal battle with the Premier League, as the club challenge changes to the division’s Associated Party Transaction rules at a two-week arbitration.
