use DETTOL SOAP.. works like miracle ..
*
Thank you for your input but I don't think dettol soap is an appropriate product to be used on the face area. It is overdrying and may irritate fragile skin though it is antiseptic.

Dear Jinyee, I have stop applying the BP on my whole face since i have less and small acne now. Can i now jus apply the acne will do or still need to apply on the whole face?
*
Please apply only on acne prone area. You should consistently apply BP on acne prone area to avoid next flare up. You should not apply on all area, if you do so, you need at least 4 tubes of BP per month! LOL

QUOTE(joycewl @ Aug 1 2007, 12:50 AM)
hi jinyee..
just found ur topic abt acne today..
and i decided to the regimen that u've recommended..
btw, i've serious black heads prob and tiny pimples owiz pop up on my forehead..
my nose and forehead are oily and even i've just clease my face, i still can't get rid of the oily skin..
previously i was using cellnique products, but due to the costly price, i couldn't afford to buy it now.. tongue.gif
so do u have any suggestion for solving my prob?
last but not least, ur reply will be genuinely appreciated..

My advice is, just follow the regimen. Use mild cleanser - CETAPHIL and BP. That's it. 2 steps then you are on the go. Yet the products are affordable.

Consistently and patient are important for maintaining the suppleness of your skin. It helps in preventing acne as well.

QUOTE(sher @ Aug 1 2007, 03:02 PM)
hey jin yee! have been reading on this topic for 2 days.decided to ask u some questions..i have acne problem too..have been suffering for quite sometime, i think more than 5 years im stuck with acnes and blackheads all over my face..more at T-zone.HAve tried leonard drake, herbaline, sis's friend's facial, lasers, and all types of products...but i dun see much improvement till i've accepted the fact that it's  bcoz of my hormones..=(

Let me make this more readable , hehe...

1. Im currently using skinfood products: tea tree toner(alchohol-free) and cucumber emulsion moisturizer and tomato sunblock spf 36.wat do u think of their products?According to them, their products are natural...

2. If i start ur regimen, can i still continue using my moisturizer?(coz i just bought new one)

3. It was a shock to hear u telling the us to stay away from clean & clear products coz i've been using their acne clearing gel for some time dy.didn't really work well, it leaves scar behind and i thought it was suppose to be like this. hehe

4. Can i apply BP on blackheads too?as i have many of it on the nose. =(

that's all! i hope...hehe
*
Answers:-
1. Please stop ALL skinfood products. I do not really think their products are GREAT though it claims most of the products are made from natural ingredients. Believe me, check the ingredient and you might find paraben on it, its a kind of preservative. STOP ALL theire product and ONLY stick to CETAPHIL and PANOXYL.

2. Nope, not recommended. But you can either swap it with Neutrogena moisturizer or Cetaphil moisturizer.

3. Clean & Clear products sucks. It did not work charm. The best counter solution for acne is BP with the combination of mild cleanser. The success rate is higher than anything.

4. Yes, you can. Smear it evenly on your nose.

P/S: patient is the key. You should be able to see at least significant result within 2.5months. Keep me up to date on your condition.

My face is now getting somewhat flaky. Which moisturizer is better? Neutrogena or Cetaphil? How about the cost? Thanks.

P/S: What's the full name for both products?

You can either get Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture for Sensitive Skin or Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion. Both are good products and very light.

QUOTE(sher @ Aug 2 2007, 01:18 AM)
wow...jin yee u gave me a shock! thanks for tellin me! i have been a fan of skin food for quite some time dy..haha!the problem is i couldn't read its ingredients as it is written in korean characters...but many ppl said their masks are really good, wat do u think?have u tried them?or comment based on ingredients?

Frankly speaking, i have wasted alot of money on face products and facials...i'd do anything to get a clean face.tried everything on the shelf and salon formulation, nothing really save my face. And may u allow me to say this---->"For acne sufferers out there, NEVER NEVER OPT TO BEAUTY SALONS FOR A FACIAL and expecting to get results.Coz i;ve really tried many, even the famous leonard drake, but it didn't help yet destroying my face! =p
Actually i dun have really serious acne now, but i have lotsa small ones on my face and some scarring too!thats y i would like to know if using BP will cause scarring later on.

1. i have been using Cellnique products too.The sebum gel was not too bad, works on blackheads but when i use it for long , it has no effect dy.haha! What do u think of their skin glowing mask?i bought that coz it says guaranteed money return..hehe!

2. What ingredients must we avoid in purchasing face products?i can see many 'paraben' words in my products now...haha

3. Where do u learn all this ingredient stuff?Did u go for any course?Or were u a serious acne sufferer that has been trying alot of products?Hey, i'd really support u if u are going to publish ur own book on this!=)

4. Is your regimen for serious acne sufferer?Coz i do not have those acnes with alot of puss in it, just small ones but alot!i think most of them turn from blackheads to acnes.
*
Exactly, no SALOON because it will worsen the whole agenda.

1. Cellnique is NOT as good as Cetaphil. A lots of brand intends to incorporate certain so-called moisturizing properties into their products which cause the negative outcome when too many comes together. Unlike that, Cetaphil is easy and mild. My advice : Throw away Cellnique.

2. Ingredients, there are a lot but the MOST irritating ingredient would be the FRAGRANCE. Because we will not know what kind of fragrance they used because the wording is too general. I think for the mean time, you should avoid fragrance products, thats why even those who prefer liquid neutrogena as their cleanser, I will still insist them to use the fragrance-free version.

3. Have a little acne during my puberty time. My mum is a dermatologist and currently she is working in UK. I am a banker actually, helping my mum to do thesis about acne. So, it was so natural for me to come across those chemical stuffs. I shall need to get some interested publisher to help me out. So, whoever know any publisher, please refer to me. tongue.gif . Anyhow, I would want to have a meeting with the local sole distributor for Cetaphil and check whether they can sell it in cheaper price or not to me should we purchase in bulk. Then, we shall distribute to interested forumers.

4. The regimen suits mild to severe acne sufferers because it counter on the same problem, I mean the root of the problem. After so many years to doing research, even my mum said nothing works other than mild and gentle stuff compared to the most advanced or expensive products.

hiie,i took Roaccutane when i was in form5(17) also.but i took only 10mg a day. i tried 20mg before but blood test has some abnormal stuffs.DONT WORRY,continue read on before jump to conclusion.i took it for 18months and then only my acne gone(those big pimples only not those whiteheads and blackheads).i tell u.Roaccutane only starts its effect after 1 month or so.at first,u might hv EVEN MORE PIMPLES coming out due to ur skin already has those blocked glands.but after one month, roaccutane will clear them for u.so u'll actually feel better.and if u feel tht "oh,i no more pimples coming out already,so i wan stop taking roaccutane even right now".never ever do tht!!!!!!!if u think like dat,ur pimples will make its return and u'll plagues by this problem even worse.at least consume it around 2 months more.those u see in websites are westerners.their diet and weather very different from us.to support my stand,i give an example y asians are not encouraged to do laser on pimples scars, coz asian skins are prone to develop pigmentation 'uneven colour' when exposed to sun after laser(Msia is bloody hot here).AND ur face will become very red after u do laser.GOOD NEWS is,Roaccutane also heals scars SLIGHTLY coz its actually a modified type of VITAMIN A.u take Roaccutane means u're taking an overdosed Vitamin A into ur body.u might think 'i can eat more vegetables such as spinach which also has vitamin A to combat acne'. u're wrong. vegetables such as spinach has a substance call octana which limits ur Vitamin A consumption and no matter how much u eat also it'll be no use coz it'll end up in ur toilet bowl.

those products u're using i used a few before, namely the lip conditioner, the face cleanser.but then i've another neo strata clarifying lotion for peeling off dead skin faster.ok.after one month,if ur acne doesn't do any good.go do the glycolic acid peel treatment.i've done dis before also.but only twice.its kind of organic acid from fruits put onto a topical layer on ur skin.the dermatologist will do for u.it will start of in stages, but mostly start wif 20% concentration, then 50% den 70%.but then i only managed to endure till 50% concentration.when the doctor sapu tht acid on ur face,u'll feel abit uncomfortable.MILD acid on ur face.imagine tht.when it dries up,u'll feel like ur face feel like a MASK(its tight).anyways,i'll talk abt others later on if u're interested to noe.AND as a reminder: glycolic acid peel works together wif Roaccutane=work as a charm.

BTW: do u guys and girls feel tht Cetaphil is abit overpriced nowadays, the big bottle wif a pump cost up to 39bucks at guardian pharmacy though i got mine at 28bucks at cheras area.tht area is called Suntex if u noe where it is.
*
Thank you for your accutance input. I shall try to make appointment with Cetaphil distributor to see whether I could get cheaper price or not.

Are you using Cetaphil as well?

FYI,i'm not taking any course on acne,i'm actually an IT student, but i've alot of personal experience on this stuffs.those i dunno i wont answer.all those i noe i answered according to wat dermatologist told me during the bad days i had acne.

Hi Jin Yee,

I have been using Cetaphil and PanOxyl for few months. Initially my skin was improved. But now my skin become so rough and dry, and got a lot of small pimples popped up on my face as well as forehead. PanOxyl and Cetaphil do not help anymore. Do you have any idea?
*
Few months =?months. I shall need to know whether did you subsequently consume any medication?

If the answer is no, you shall add in moisturizer if you are frequently expose to air-conditioned environment.

Please do let me know how many times do you use Cetaphil and BP per day. I need these basic info before I started to comment as well.

jinyee,i have received your msg n i hav decided to reply it here to share with others.

It is my fifth month of consuming roaccutane...10mg for every alternate day..so far so good...the dermatologist gave me Cetaphil cleanser n benzane to apply...i wud say tat Cetaphil is good,mild...after using it to wash the face..u wont feel any tightness..

jinyee...i hav developed a big prob..which i need to ask ppl like u who hav done research on skin problems...last sat i went to a prom..i set my hair n i only applied sunblock for face n lip gloss...the next day..to my horror...many pimples popped out..til now they hav not disappeared..under the eyes..around my mouth...n i experienced itchiness at the side..cheek bone...i scratched n it turned out to be very painful..reddish n sort of flaked off...how come?i m very worried now...anything i could do to fix the point?i suspect it had to do with the hair mousse,or the lip gloss..or maybe the sunblock...
*
Ok. Theoritically you should not encounter any acne should you are on the midst of consuming Accutane. Therefore, I suspected the problem is either the hair products or sunblock. But, higher possibility goes to hair products. Because most of them contain wax and other materials that might irritate fragile skin. You should not use the product anymore.

I recommend you to cleanse your face and apply thin layer of kaolin on your face for soothing the so-called - itchiness = inflammation? . You can get calamine lotion for this purpose. As soon as the problem is solved, discontinue the usage of calamine.

QUOTE(sher @ Aug 3 2007, 12:31 AM)
I saw this ingredients u posted for Cetaphil in ur 1st post:
Ingredients: Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Stearyl Alcohol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben.

It has sodium lauryl sulfate and many paraben's. But i thought you mentioned to avoid these ingredients in your other posts?Errm...kinda confused...hope to get some knowledge bout these ingredient stuff too!
*
What I wanted to highlight is not paraben, but its actually the skinfoods products. Ok, fine, if a manufacturer said its products are derived from 100% natural ingredients, then you should have suspected that how could they preserve the so-called NATURAL ingredients for long time. Its no harm using chemical products as long as its not in excessive amount. None of the ingredient in Cetaphil is derived from natural properties but yet its highly recommended.

Actually you should avoid these ingredients - paraben, sodium lauryl sulfate and etc because you would not know how many percentage or quantity of the ingredients are used to form that cleanser or lotion. Excessive amount will create adverse outcome. But, for Cetaphil, its proven that the success rate is high compared to others. Thereby, it really depends on the quantity that are used.

Perhaps I have to recheck in which post I said that and rephrase it. Thanks for reminding!

Can you assure that after you press or clear it, the acne would not come? The answer is NO because how could you identify P.acne bacteria with your naked eye. BP will be able to clear the P.acne and by applying the acne prone area consistently, you are disallowing the P.acne to create potential trouble hence you avoid getting new acne.

*
As I always said, in the preliminary stage, you might have adverse result. But patient is the key. You should see significant improvement after 2.5months, at least changes in your skin texture. Please note that ONLY apply BP once per two nights for the 1st week or so on. After your skin can get used to BP, then you can apply once per night.

Also note, cleanse your face with Cetaphil at MOST twice per day. Gently massage the skin to ease out dirt and sebum. Normally for early stage, once per day for Cetaphil is sufficient already. You can wash your face with plain water whenever you like in between.

Only use Neutrogena oil-free SPF15. Others please put it aside because though it might come from various brand but the result is yet to be proven successfully.

hi jinyee

i had pimples since jan this year, so it has been half a year or so. my pimples had cleared up mostly, a few pimples still pop out occasionally though. But the main concern now is the mark, its kinda severe i should say, however it has healed over time. I felt its taking too long, how long it usually takes for the marks to clear up totally?

I went to the doctor for the medication, he told me at least by early 2008 only it can cleared up. Then only the scar treatment will follow, after my pimple marks hv faded. Is that true?

Oh and i do take RO Accutane, and it has been 3 months. And as i mentioned, there is still like one or two pimples, is that normal after i take RO Accutane?

thanks for your reply jinyee.
*
It will generally take up at least 1 year to clear up acne. What I mean clear up is you maintained problem-free skin.

You might have occasional acne, its normal. No worries about it.

*
The fundamental idea of this regimen is to cleanse your skin mildly, counter the acne problem and let the skin to rejuvanate by its own. So, you must always make sure that your complexion is well maintained, therefore your skin will heal by itself rather than come to a situation that while you are treating the old scars, new acnes pop out.

Anything with fragrance are not that advisable. You may try Neutrogena range or Cetaphil. Other brands, please post up the product name to seek for advice.

So is it mean that we can just keep washing our face with cetaphil but no need must apply BP? coz i know sometime people dun like to apply so many things on face after cleanse..

If his skin is not acne prone, then you may exclude BP out from the regimen. Its ok, no worries.

I do not see significant link between diet with acne. But, excessive iodine will cause you acne. Foods that contain a lots f iodine are kelps, shrimps and other sea foods. Do some google research around.

Yup, Maybeline liquid foundation is not bad. Bare in mind that, do not overcover your acne with make up, otherwise it will worsen off the condition. A thin layer of BP first before the make up goes in.

Use BP once per 2 nights for the 1-2 week. Your skin will need to adapt to BP. It normal to peel as some might develop sensitivity against BP. BP has the ability to shed off old skin and reveal new skin layer.

Dear jinyee,

I plan to start your regiment soon and wanted to ask about a few products before I purchase them.

I noticed Cetaphil has another cleanser - something daily facial cleanser for normal to oily skin. If I have combination skin, is it better for me to use that cleanser or just stick to the gentle Cetaphil cleanser?

Kind of a noob question actually, but if you use toner, you apply the panoxyl after you apply the toner right?

I read in your previous post that you mention about the neutrogena oil-free moisture. Is it better than the cetaphil@moisturizing lotion for combination skin?

I'm sorry for asking so much questions. Thanks in advance biggrin.gif.
*
Only use the gentle cleanser. Please do not swap to another as it might not work well with the regimen.

No toner is required in this regimen. Please exclude. It will be overdrying as toner contains excessive alcohol.

You can either use neutrogena and cetaphil moisturizer.

Nope. To me, its not required. Apply the same thin layer. You have to be patient to get your skin to adapt to BP. Keep on the good work!

just one question, should i apply the moisturizer after BP? coz i feel even more burn on my skin when i apply the lotion after BP. i did wait for the BP to dry out first( approx. 20mins). Is it bcoz the lotion has some ingredients which cannot be mixed with BP?
I wanna use moisturizer at nite too as i feel moisturizing one in the day is insufficient for me, BP is drying my skin. =(

Nope, the regimen should go on in this way. Cetaphil cleanser -> BP -> moisturizer. You should apply BP once per two nights in the first 1-2 weeks. You should wait for the BP to dry off first before you apply the moisturizer. I believe you don't want to mess up your face with BP and moisturizer at the same time right?

You can moisturize yourself as you like but make sure in the day time, a thin layer will do.

i've been  using Neutrogena for a while..great product..affordable..!~
i believe in choosing the suitable product but not the expensive..coz i tried all the high end products such as Sk2..Kose...Dermalogica and so forth..none of them solve my acne problem..
currently im using Neutrogena pure mild cleanser and Cellnique sebum action gel..effective though..
highly recommended to oily and acne prone skin..

btw, shud i continue  using BP till minimum of 2.5 months on the same area?will BP dry my skin eventhough there's no acne and my skin has already get used to it?
*
You should continue BP in order to prevent future break out. I would advise you to use BP for a year and see whether there is still occasional break out or not. If the situation is stablize, you may stop BP while continuing Cetaphil only.

Hi jinyee, read quite a number of your post in the forum about skincare n stuff. I have isolated pimples on my face. Althougth its not alot, but its reddish and sometimes it leave dark brown scars. Actually, its not the "few" pimples that irritates me, but its the scars. The pimples leave black spots on my face which i dont like it alot. (Most of the times, my pimples doenst have any yellowish "head", it just look reddish)

Any solution or recommandation? any what's bp actually?

Thanks.
*
Black spots is due to post inflammantory hyperpigmentation which is the outcome of inappropriate dealing with previous acne. You might consider this regimen and as I have highlighted repeatedly, let your skin to do the work. It will rejuvenate by itself. Apply BP on black spots area and acne prone area. It will definately help.

Some might not see effect so soon with accutane but normally you should be able to see the outcome very very soon. Perhaps you should do blood test before you continue the consumption again because minority individuals might develop sensitivity towards accutane.

Please get advise from your dermatologist ASAP!

hi jinyee..

i have pimples on my chin area.my forehead, cheeks and nose however, is clear.the pimples don't have head one.meaning, it doesn't start from blackheads to form the pimple on my chin.the pimple came on and on again.it's been 2 months for the breakout.i've previously acne records too, but already cleared.is it due to my internal health for the pimples to came out on my chin and not other area of my face?
*
I cannot say there is a direct link between your health and acne but definately not-so-good health will affect other problems as well, not only acne.

Perhaps you should revise your diet. Drink more water and consume less oily stuff. Engage yourself to the regimen if you are ready to do so. It will help to build up better skin texture.

Your skin is somehow sensitive to moisturizer. You should apply only a thin layer. Please keep me up to date. If the problem still persist, you should temporary stop moisturizer.

Apply BP once per 2 nights. Your skin should be able to build up the tolerance to BP after 1-2weeks ( some might need longer time ). Please be patient as various people various skin condition.

way back in year 2004 when i was still in uni, i have bad acne problem.

my face was full of pimples and it was a terrible sight.

my dermatologist told me to go to this website and check out how this normal American guy who also suffered from acne, finally got clear skin.

my derma told me that even though my pimples were bad, but it can be cured by just using oral products (that means i dont have to take pills)

in the website, the products the American guy used, will also be recommended by my derma if you go visit his office...  tongue.gif

Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser (this is  thumbup.gif)
Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment
Neutrogena Moisture Oil Free Formula SPF 15
i was skeptical at first but since i was desperate i tried.

i tried for 2 weeks, it really did cleared my skin!

i'm not sure if it work for everyone but i had serious acne problem and i needed help urgently.

if you decided to follow this... you really have to be disciplin enough to follow the regimen... --->  http://www.acne.org/regimen.html

good luck.
*
Since long timr ago ,I have gone through the website and have discussion with Dan Kern all these while about his sharing and experiences regarding acne. His regimen is informative but bear in mind that his regimen might be only applicable to western countries which he recommended BP to be applied in GENEROUS amount, but in Malaysia, we have hot temperature and it is somehow unsuitable. Nevertheless, it still serve as a reference to us.

By the way, thank you for sharing!

Erm, hi jinyee,

I told my mom to purchase the regimen you have recommend, but unfortunately, she bought different things for me, due to the sales girl...

She bought the whole range of Eucerin products, that is cleanser, toner, moisturizer and 1 small tube of acne cream. I think it's zinc oxide if i'm not mistaken, cuz the acne cream it's not in english, but some other language, and all of them it's eucerin.

Do u think eucerin is good?

Btw, i hav a lot of acne bumps, which if u try to squeezw hard enough, u'll get to c some dry white pus coming out like toothpaste, if i din squeeze right, it'll become huge acne in 2 weeks time like that but i din squeeze because i scare got marks. And I put on salicic acid there, it became dry but end up having black mark there once it's dry..

Is that normal, wat shall i do?
*
Nope, please do NOT use any other products besides recommended one. I cannot give further advice should you use other alternatives.

it will not stop..got it for years now..
what exactly is that and how to stop it?
i just bought cetaphil mild cleanser and panoxyl..
can these two products get rid of this annoying toothpaste-like thingie?

*
Its pus. Inflammation is the word. Firstly, you must cleanse the skin with mild cleanser and then, apply generous amount of BP on it. Please do wipe up the pus when it surfaced before the application of BP.

BP will dry the pus out. No worries. Consistent application will prevent this situation to persist.

QUOTE(n1dh0g @ Aug 26 2007, 08:57 PM)
Um... jinyee i know this is kind of like a very noobish question... but do you apply cetaphil cleanser on a wet or dry face if you intend to rinse it off with water later?

You could do both. But, I reckon that you wet your face first, then cetaphil. Then rinse off.

Consistency is very important in this regimen. You should follow the regimen and it will prevent yourself from acne.

To those who prefer creamy version, Neutrogena is the one; whilst to those who prefer lite edition, Cetaphil is the one.

Put all the blablabla products aside and start this regimen with the recommended products ASAP. The result will speak out by its own and its meant for cost-saving.

Please do not over-listen to those auntie that don't really understand the mechanism how acne was formed. Its not only dirt and oil.

You should follow the regimen for a substantial time because acne cannot be cured, it can only be prevented.

Hi Jinyee,

As I have purchased all the 3 main products that you have recommended and also understood the regimen of Clean>BP> Moisturize at night but how and what amount to apply?
Do you have any guideline to help me to follow or should I follow Dan's regimen on the youtube video?

I have been suffering from acne since my teenage, On and Off but since for the last few weeks the acne has started to breakout again.. most are full of yellowish pus.
Btw, I have a few dark spots on my cheek from acne breakout, can the recommended regimen clear away the dark spots.
*
Apply a thin layer of BP to your skin. Dan's application method is meant for those who stay in chilled countries, which to use a generous amount will really make your face melt when your sweat.

Clear your acne first before we talk about how to get rid of your dark spots.

QUOTE(DumDum @ Sep 8 2007, 10:50 PM)

There is no way to heal scar immediately as its damaged tissues. I have emphasized several time that by using this regimen, you will enable the skin to rejuvenate by itself as our skin has its own ability to heal by its own.

Thanks for advance.
*
Remain clear and prevent acne will enable your skin to heal by itself. Excessive or additional skin products might worsen the condition.

Its normal to have the burning sensation for the 1-2 weeks. NO other additional skin products are to be used concurrently to avoid the effectiveness of the regimen.

No, Loreal white perfect is not suitable for acne.

It works but it did not counter the problem as P.acne bacteria will develop immunity towards the medication. Thats the reason why I did not recommend Salicylic Acid but Benzoyl Peroxide.

The label in this lotion saying suitable for very dry skin.

1 more question : Can we use Vaseline Petrolleum Jelly as moisturizer?
*
QV lotion is okie. Apply Panoxyl first and let it dry before you proceed with QV lotion. PLEASE, do only use moisturizer when you are in air-conditioned room, otherwise it is not compulsory and necessary.

No, vaseline is too greasy to act as moisturizer. You will end up like a bulb!!!

Check it out. There are people who really suffer from acne and the have come up with their own remedies which may or may not work for other people. But it is worth a try anywayz.
ANother thing is also to constantly go for facials, it does help a whole lot too.
*
Consistent facial visits are good but the problem we have in Malaysia is that some of the saloon beauticians did not even know what are they doing, unless you go to dermalogica and etc. These anonymous beauticians will screw up your face by just squeezing here and there. After that you will have to buy this and that.

I have come across Dan's regimen for long long time and we often discuss topics related to acne very often. However, I have modify certain properties inside the regimen as Dan's regimen is more suitable for those who stay in chilled countries.

Cetaphil did not strip off your outer sebum which actually protect your face and avoid it from skin diseases. I understand some people are used to those kind of 'CLEAN' and 'TIGHT' feeling after they washed their face. Please stay calm as this is normal when you used Cetaphil, you would not have the so-called 'CLEAN' feeling but it does work. Please be patient!

I recommend cleansing oil in this way to get rid of blackhead. Shiseido has stopped TISS oil, therefore you may seek for alternative - Pure and Mild cleansing oil.

Note that toner is not recommended in this regimen as the excessive alcohol will strip off essential natural skin barrier.

No, the name should be Neutrogena Oil-free moisture. Its a normal moisturizer without any counter-acne ingredient inside as we have implemented Benzoyl peroxide. Please note that 2 various active ingredients should not be used together as it might cause unwanted chemical effect.

Hi Jinyee,

I have been following your complete regimen for the last 2 weeks and now theres a big red acne bump on my cheek after 1 week into this regimen.
I can feel its full of pus in there and without head.. its irritating. I feel like poping it out but theres no head.
Should I pop it out or just leave it alone?
Usually if I don't, it will become a darkspot after few weeks and I knw it will take months to clear away.
How to prevent this? Thanks Jinyee.
*
For the big bump, please do cleanse gently and generously apply BP on it. The bump will dry out in 3-4 days. Please do not even try to pop it, PLEASE!

Nodule acne may caused by sensitivity towards certain skin products. I have feedback from 3 forumers that were using this same regimen that in the 1st to 3rd weeks, they encounter more than 1 nodule acne on their face. However, I insisted them to continue the regimen and finally on the 5th weeks, the result seems to improve and now they have great skin. They even share with me their photos.

Why? Because acne has the cycle of 28 days, which you have just started the regimen 2 weeks ago and that means, before you have even start this regimen, the acne was there already before it surfaced.

i've been following ur regimen almost 2 months.. the result is superb.... as what u said, we hv to b patience.. first 2 days my skin become redish.. like wearing blusher.. but then the skin slowly become normal as it get used to it... now my face is clear from acne( suffer since form 2)... i've been using almost all products for local or over the counter.. but the result is on n off... but im really satisfied with cetaphil n panoxyl... will use it forever(at first i hate the cleanser as it doesnt hv foam, but nvmd just give a damn try)......n know i love it very much!!!

last time i did use the Cellnique Sebum Gel.. yes, it would clear your blackhead or whitehead... but, when u stop using it it will come back.. so? my advice is just stick to this 2 regiment (cetaphil n panoxyl), ur blackhead n whitehead will clear then, it just takes time..... smile.gif

People tends to get used to the lather feeling caused by conventional cleanser. Cetaphil did not lather and beginner really feel that it will never enough to cleanse my face.

Please keep us updated with your result. Well done!

The fundamental thing is that the regimen prepared the skin to behave like the way it should be. If your skin is oily skin, doesn't mean that it is bad. Oily skin owner tend to age later compared to those who has dry skin.

What you need to do is to search for make up that has oil-soaking properties, such as cyclomethicone ( if I did not spell it wrongly ). This is a kind of silicone that will help to soak up excessive sebum oil.

can a person with serious acne can get better if follow this regime ? My bro has serious acne. He went to docs, beauty salon and many more but his face like nothing only.. I'm planning to buy him the body cleanser recommended. His shoulder there got few acne.

Thanks jinyee.
*
Yes. As I have stated up there. Acne has a 28 days cycle. Follow the regimen closely. You can get Cetaphil gentle bar for him to cleanse the body( please refer to 1st post).

jin yee, does this regimen work for acne on my chest too?coz i've applied bp and cleansed with cetaphil cleanser for almost 2 months but, my skin has turned into a darker colour and did not give good results like my face..is it bcoz i did not apply moisturizer?i dunno if i should....any good recommendation for body acne regimen?

also, how often should i use the pure and mild cleansing oil if i want to remove my blackheads?it doesn't seem to work really well for me..maybe im using it the wrong way..
*
No. Different people will see result in various timeframe. Please stay on and be patient. PATIENT is always the key word. The regimen can be used on chest as well. But, bare in mind, BP will bleach your clothes!

You can use pure and mild once in a week.

Dear Jin yee....

My acne are under control jor......only occassionally do have some breakout...

But how come recently my face kinda red at warm/hot places....night time also....face abit dry also....
*
Some people might develop sensitivity towards BP. Thats the reason I have been emphazing to people that only apply BP once per 2 nights to let the skin to build up the tendency towards BP.

QUOTE(spacepilot @ Sep 27 2007, 09:15 PM)
Me too.. both my cheek are very redish and lower jaw skins is peeling and very dry, in 3rd week alrdy.
I swim quite often and went swimming on Sunday noon.. I think its sunburn... but don't really know what is the real caused.
But after apply Cetaphil moisturiser after BP, jaw line is quite itchy.. blush.gif
*
If you have sunburn, you should not apply BP on the area, but instead apply thin layer of moisturizer. Wait until that place's skin to heal 1st before you continue with BP.

QUOTE(ling07 @ Sep 29 2007, 01:40 PM)
already 1 month plus on the regimen..my skin looks like a person who got burned(not reddish) scars..when smile can see the 'lines' on the skin.. ohmy.gif will the skin keep on peeling off as long as we apply BP?there's some small patches here and there..>.<
*
Your skin will develop tendency towards BP. Though it might cause dryness initially but BP is really a good medication which counter acne problem.

QUOTE(sher @ Sep 29 2007, 05:48 PM)
jin yee, i dun think this regimen works on the blackhead on my nose. coz i can see enlarged pores now...not even getting better, but enlarged dy!! i think this regimen will work marvellous on acnes but not blackhead, any comment from others?

ps: my skin condition is improving, vast improvement on the forehead, old scars are all gone!but still looked reddish and peeling sometimes...
*
Once you gently cleansed your skin, it will work by itself. The skin will eliminate blackhead by itself, so thats no need for you to purposely apply this and that.

Reddish is normal.

QUOTE(spacepilot @ Sep 29 2007, 10:30 PM)
There's no more redness, I think I applied too much BP that day after swimming but do you all feel itchy around the lips after BP and moisturiser?
*
Please do not apply BP to sensitive area such as eye area and etc.

QUOTE(Polar_012 @ Sep 30 2007, 11:56 PM)
Well let me answer you based on my experience with this regimen. The reason your skin might feel itchy is because you apply Cetaphil moisturiser right after applying Panoxyl. I would recommend you to apply Panoxyl and let it dry for roughly 25 minutes and then only apply Cetaphil Moisturiser.
Jin Yee,

Is it recommended to apply a thicker layer of moisturiser or a thin layer would be sufficient? The reason for this is because Cetaphil Moisturiser has a thick and heavy feel. Hope you get what i mean.
*
You just need a thin layer of moisturizer. Its sufficient. Apply thicker layer if you have highly exposed to air-conditioned area.

Cellnique sebum gel doesn't work for me. My sensitive skin broke out and became red. It is not suitable for everyone so do a patch test first. My skin only reacted after 10 days of using it (so strange).
I have used Proactiv solution for a number of years already and it works for me. It too contains BP.
*
Yup, self consciousness is very important. I think so far BP is the best over-the-counter acne medication compared to its closest rival salicylic acid.

hey jinyee..
i used this regiment for quite a couple of months..
i found tat my face is too oily tat i have to wash my face at least 3 times to control the oil..since cetaphil is quite gentle tat sometime i still feel oily on my face after cleansing.
but according to wht u said, only nid 2 cleanse 2 times..so will it affect the regiment works if i cleanse >2 times a day?
bside may i ask wht acctually does the moisturizer usage??
i'm a student and always exposed to air-conditioner..so in wht circumstance tat i shld use moisturizer?
thx
*
You know why you always feel your skin is oily? Its because Cetaphil did not lather. You will not have the so called 'clean' and 'tightness' feeling after the cleansing job.

Please remain on the regimen because this is how it works. Cleanse twice per day is more than enough. Alternatively, if you would like to cleanse your face in noon time, you can cleanse it with plain water, as long as Cetaphil is not involved.

A thin layer of moisturizer is sufficient. Its very subjective, if your skin feel tight after applying BP in air-cond, then you should go for moisturizer, otherwise if everything is normal, you may exclude it.

Its a norm that you will get worsen condition the 1st to 3rd week when you are on medication. The itchiness is due to overdryness on your skin.

You may also use this regimen while you are on roaccutane.

As stated in one of the posts, I have checked with Johnson & Johnson (M) ( sole distributor for Neutrogena products locally ) early 2007 and was informed that J&J has decided to stop to bring in NOTS. The reason is because they found out the sales was not encouraging. I have managed to talk to a more senior management stuff saying that this was probably the consumer is less exposed to NOTS and the capability of Benzoyl Peroxide.

Moreover, talking about acne, the first medication in one's perception will be OXY. No advertisements were done for NOTS therefore lead to less publicity which ends up with low turnover.

Anyhow, you may swap it with Panoxyl as I discovered it is also suitable for this regimen. Same 2.5% of BP which will not overdry the skin.

Is NOTS better than PanOxyl ?

I remember I saw the one and only box of NOTS on the shelf in Guardian in Queensbay last month but did not bother it because didn't know it was the first recommended BP product by JYee. Instead was looking for PanOxly 2.5% which is also the last box on the shelf.. so i grab it.

But now, I have almost finish using half of my PanOxyl and having a hard time looking for it even at the same place i bought it.
I hope someone can share where they get their's in Penang.
*
Please take note that if you really FOUND NOTS, I believed the expiry date is very soon already. Due to the scarcity, we switch to Panoxyl. Both works wonderfully, just that NOTS is in lotion form, whilst Panoxyl is in gel form. Gel form will enable you to smear to cover wider area.

To be consistent, go for Panoxyl as it will be easily obtained in future.

Now guardian are selling Cetaphil Cleanser X 2 at RM6X plus ( offer )

Better grab Cetaphil gentle cleanser when its on promotion. I have forumer over here having sensitivity ( I suspect ) over Cetaphil moisturizer. I am now thinking of doing a small group sample whether it is true or not. For the mean time, you can get neutrogena moisturizer as its widely accepted and result proven.

I bought the Cetaphil offer pack..

Apparently, the orange one and the light blue one on first page have the same description.. But the orange one is a "cream" and comes in 50g pack; whereas the light blue one is a "lotion" and comes in 200ml..

Besides that, I don't really know what's the difference sweat.gif  Maybe some people's skin are suitable for cream and not lotion; and vice versa? Just a rough guess icon_rolleyes.gif

EDIT for spelling error  blush.gif

Lotion suits people who has oily to combination skin whilst cream is recommended to those with dry skin.

I'm using the products that you recommended religiously everyday. And it has been nearly 1.5 months now. I havent seen improvements yet, but as you said, patience is the key nod.gif

I have a question. I dont use the moisturiser as my skin is super oily. It's oily even during long hours flight. Is that cetaphil moisturiser really important in this regimen? If I use it at night, I will wake up with so much oil on my face.

Thanks.

I am happy to share good products and help forumers. Btw, I have no advertisement fee paid by Cetaphil nor Panoxyl. LOL.

You can exclude the moisturizer, its not compulsory btw.

QUOTE(redrose9802 @ Oct 10 2007, 02:58 AM)

Nope. Use Cetaphil to cleanse your face and subsequently followed by moisturizer. I dun really want to add in Panoxyl as I think at this moment it might potentially dry out your skin. ( especially when you are on roaccutane, your skin will become delicate)

QUOTE(DumDum @ Oct 10 2007, 05:48 PM)

And beside, why my face wont burn.red.or warm? like normal only...just a little little itchy in some part only.. anyway,thanks..

I have not heard the moisturizer before. You mind to provide the ingredient for further comments?

Some people will not develop sensitivity towards BP. You are lucky, just a little bit itchy. The itchiness will be gone very soon.

Hi jinyee,

i've having a prob finding the right product for this regimen. Could you list out
alternative product for cleanser, moisturiser, and BP other than the recomended.

btw, does this regimen only works to prevent acne, or it also helps to remove
redmarks,blackhead,scar and etc?

Thnx. smile.gif
*
Cleanser = Liquid Neutrogena ( Fragrance Free )
Moisturizer = Neutrogena oil-free moisturizer for combination skin/SPF15/sensitive skin
BP = NA

As I have highlighted repeatedly in previous posts that the purpose of the regimen is not only to counter your current acne problem but also to maintain the suppleness of your skin. Therefore, your skin will be able to work on its own to rejuvenate and repair itself. The post inflammantory hyperpigmentation will fade as time goes by ( provided you do not have new acne formed )

Please google around for the sideeffect for vitamin A. The most obvious outcome is that it will definately dry out your skin.

As I have highlighted earlier that patient is the key of success in this regimen. Acne has the cycle of 28 days. Please let me know how long you have been using this regimen, then I shall comment on it.

I have spotted a quite good and affordable item on Watson's shelves yesterday, its the ZA cleansing oil. Since both TISS and ZA are owned by SHISEIDO, I believed the formula should be around the same. Perhaps you can have a try on cleansing oil on the whitehead area. Please let me know where's the bump area? forehead? If its forehead, I also doubt maybe its due to the hairproducts that you used.

You can apply thin layer of foundation to temporaily cover up the spot since you said its very soon.

P/S: Okay I am not invited to the wedding. FINE! laugh.gif

QUOTE(spacepilot @ Oct 11 2007, 04:56 PM)
I have also stop using the Cetaphil moisturiser because I developed 3 nodule acne on the face area that never have any break outs before and noodle acne is very nasty and difficult to fade away, have to press out all the yellowish pus and scars stay very long.

Edit: As we are not supposed to press the acne, what will happen to all the pus underneath the scared skin?
*
Cetaphil moisturizer may not suits everyone. Forumers are not obligate to add in the moisturizer if they are not exposed to air-cond condition for long period.

Please exclude the moisturizer. However, maintain the cleanser and apply generous panoxyl on the nodule acne. It will be eliminated within a week time. Please do it day and night.

Don' worry, panoxyl will dry out the pus inside. As BP will release oxygen into the clogged pores, the anaerobic acne bacteria will be eliminated thereby will dry out soon.
