Whoa. Luckily I installed the free screen protector without realising that the 'naked' screen have a preinstalled film that scratches easily.

I use all my previous phones without any screen protector. Else what's the point of having a beautiful screen, right?

Hi, anyone can help me root my Xperia Z1 C6903? It's on Jelly Bean 4.3, Build 14.2.A.0.290. Fastboot.exe is stuck on < waiting for device >

The instructions are very complicated. If someone could help me do it, I'll treat her / him a cup of ice blended or frappucino smile.gif

no matter how u're still required to flash back to .534 fw to attain root 1st.. read the guide again..

Back to my topic:
Reflash .534, rooted and successfully installed dual recovery drool.gif indeed DoomLord's one working..
lazy to update to .257, will straight away flash to custom rom..

Couldnt rmb where i read this but is it true that i always need to reflash recovery after flashing a custom rom?

Even if i hv a nandroid backup, i still hv to flash back to .534 to recover from bootloop and re-root it first right?
*
once u recover back to nandroid your root will stil be intact, no need re-root

btw check your IMEI, if you tried to update to .290.... sony have implemented some kind of protection or region locking with .290.... once u downgrade to another country fw it will disable your IMEI

btw for recovery i tried both, both also working fine for me

You need to be on .534 to be able to root, then only flash to higher firmware.

If you want to flash custom rom you need to be unlock bootloader usually but since you have recovery now you don't need to.

jz flash back the same country .534 as the .290, or flash commercial / journalist .534

and i heard from xda skipping the baseband flashing in flashtool will help as well.... but not recommended

and once u flash back using commercial / journalist .534, you can go to other country .534 and till keep your IMEI. i go back to HK .534 because the commercial 1 dunhav .257 OTA

Recovery should be still stay right even if i flash custom rom? by right it should be still here but i just read something somewhere randomly that i need to reflash recovery b4 booting into the rom.. cant recall

Edit:
Just saw this.. seems like the root access for Locked BL is same like update to 4.3 thru OTA..

QUOTE
Root works perfectly with the Unlocked Bootloader (I would recommend using DoomKernel) but partially with the Locked Bootloader (System R/W Issue). I will look into it when I am free.

That's the thing. I flashed commercial 534 ended up with blank IMEI. Will try again later. At genting now, without my mobile network . Haha.

Not entirely. Partial, still able to use root as per normal but not r/w function which requires full root.

Everything, actually. hmm.gif

I think I did not flash to 534 of same country.

If I recall correctly, the hierachy is, ORIGINAL FW -> 257 HK -> 290 AUS. Then now I should flash 534 Aus?

Just done flashing to 534 with IMEI nod.gif

will start the root-with-locked-BL method and report back rclxms.gif

I find that after I root the device (locked BL) , the camera would not focus hmm.gif

Won't you lose your root if you rooted .534 then update to .290?

This is the site I tried to follow the instructions on. It tells how to root .290 without downgrading firmware:

http://techbeasts.com/2013/12/19/install-c...e-how-to-guide/

Too complicated for me. rclxub.gif The furthest I got was install Android ADB & Fastboot drivers on my PC.

BTW, I'm a fresh android user. This is my first android phone which I got a few days ago. So I'm trying to understand lots of things at the moment.

1. If u follow this guide, goodbye for ur warranty.. at least temporarily lol
2. else, u need to be rooted, and to root u need to downgrade to 534
3. If u're really new to android, pls play around with user level stuff 1st, understand all the functions and terms b4 u jump straight to this part.. u dont need to be rooted for most of the functions.

walk first before u learn to fly -..-

I do question the motives of fresh Android users for rooting.. Really, why do you want to root?
