Updated some stuffs.

Here's how to auto-start WHITE BALANCE on boot-up/reboot.

1) Download an explorer (like Root Explorer or some others, look one for yourself, usually requires root as it needs access to root-required partitions)

2) Navigate /system/etc/

3) Find "install-recovery.sh" or "init.d" ; depends whether you're on stock or custom.

4) Add line below the file you've opened (with editor) " display_color_calib " without the quotes.

Save, reboot (after you tweaked your WB settings), to confirm if the auto-startup is working, tweak your WB to funny funny settings like MAX RED + MAX BLUE. When it reboots, your phone should look the same biggrin.gif

Updated the root guide. Update is on STEP 6. Changelogs will be provided.

Mean time, for rooting on locked bootloader, I'll sacrifice my phone temporarily for you guys tongue.gif

Will clean format my phone for a locked BL and all. Stay tuned for the update on Locked BL !

for now update a bit only.

Even if i hv a nandroid backup, i still hv to flash back to .534 to recover from bootloop and re-root it first right?
*
once u recover back to nandroid your root will stil be intact, no need re-root

btw check your IMEI, if you tried to update to .290.... sony have implemented some kind of protection or region locking with .290.... once u downgrade to another country fw it will disable your IMEI

btw for recovery i tried both, both also working fine for me

You need to be on .534 to be able to root, then only flash to higher firmware.
If you want to flash custom rom you need to be unlock bootloader usually but since you have recovery now you don't need to.
Which I'm facing. Can't my IMEI to work again.I flash to 4.3 then I'll get it back but not when I down grade firmware.

QUOTE(WindChaseR @ Dec 26 2013, 08:11 PM)
owh i havent update to .290, IMEI is still here.. if its really disabled then what to do??
*
jz flash back the same country .534 as the .290, or flash commercial / journalist .534

and i heard from xda skipping the baseband flashing in flashtool will help as well.... but not recommended

and once u flash back using commercial / journalist .534, you can go to other country .534 and till keep your IMEI. i go back to HK .534 because the commercial 1 dunhav .257 OTA

That's the thing. I flashed commercial 534 ended up with blank IMEI. Will try again later. At genting now, without my mobile network . Haha.
Not entirely. Partial, still able to use root as per normal but not r/w function which requires full root.
*
did you wipe data and cache ?

Everything, actually. hmm.gif

I think I did not flash to 534 of same country.

If I recall correctly, the hierachy is, ORIGINAL FW -> 257 HK -> 290 AUS. Then now I should flash 534 Aus?
*
u can try since commercial doesn't work for you

i recall back when i flash from .290 to .534 HK, i lost my IMEI

but if i flash from .534 HK to .257 MY, i recover my IMEI hmm.gif

You won't.

Which is what I am currently experimenting - can we keep FULL root access and not partial when we are rooted on .534 then update to .290, not via OTA but flashing .290 firmware.

Long as you do not "WIPE DATA" "WIPE CACHE".

I am still experimenting, in order to give proper rooting guide.
And well, I currently lost my old back up of my ROM. Screw it, haha!
*
you moved your nandroid backup to the internal memory, then you performed a wipe data / cache right ?

i did the same thing doh.gif a lesson to us , next time don't cut and paste, just copy

i think i tried edi.... cannot work

because i followed your guide on rooting .534, then flashing to .257 via flashtool without wipe data and cache

root is gone

QUOTE(patienceGNR @ Dec 27 2013, 02:29 PM)
Nope. I backed up to Ext_sd
then CWM from XZDRecovery can't read my ext_sd (unlike older CWM)

then nandroid back up is also set to backup as CWM mode, not TWRP. fakap betul la doh.gif
*
you just need to move the backup to your internal sd card, remember to copy and not cut and paste

my case is similar to you...... the stupid CWM cannot read from external sd card, so i cut and paste to internal sd card. ok first recovery no problem, then i try to root again

2nd root failed, i flash back to .534 and i choose wipe data + cache, goodbye to my backup doh.gif

btw there's a previous CWM recovery which can restore from ext sd card iinm

haha i purposely to test my z1 battery after 4.3 update, improved many than 4.2. erm, with gaming (coc,tos),web-browsing, video playing and wifi or data on all the time,my best is around 6hrs after 4.3 update. Before 4.3 my z1 only can last around 5hrs screen on.
*

Under normal usage, with data on, etc, you said you got 6 hours SOT. What was the total life of the battery? How many % left?
He Stamina mode, off data and wifi when not using, airplane mode when sleeping, etc, I think a bit too extreme for the average user ler.
*
But still based on his normal usage he say he can get 6 hr sot, considered very good as well

I can only manage 4 hr max, about 40% brightness. Still on 4.2.2

Bootloops after flashing. Should be caused by kernel, which usually is the case. Checking with [NUT] from XDA.
*
test it and update with us smile.gif

If bootloop I'm not scared. Mine currently brick to the state it'll not respond.

lol bro. still have to say thank you to you. all because of your efforts of trying out the different methods to discover the correct root for .290

just an advice, try using the wall charger to charge it ?

if my understanding is not wrong, it means we couldnt WRITE to system partition.. eg: focus button to turn screen on cant do because we cant write to the gpio-keys.kl file.. but they claim that apps that required root access still working, maybe those app only requires READ access..

i'll try do the OTA update when i get it.. no sign of it yet :\
@@" this is really bad..
*
if like this i guess no problem... bcoz our gpio-keys.kl file already edited before right? once update will go back to original file ?

when in doubt.... just stay with .257 for the time being

until there is a full confirmation from xda on a proper root method

it seems sony kinda restrict modding with Z1.... other than the BL unlock fix
