Fishing report (15.10.14)

Venue : Exotic Rawang
Time : 5-8pm
Weather : Rainy

Manage to squeeze in a session at rawang after a dismal previous outing. Was raining slightly, took the gamble to fish since my schedule was pretty tight, and here are my humble catches;







Damage: Kena tax 2 lures.

haha...had SP but left the jigheads at home

would love to join but cant make it on the 9th.

will be in KL that weekend but i have a flight on the 24th so will have to see how.

ryojin + AJN rod. (combo made popular by tiger5 ) Just nice within your budget.
mekong, GT, queensland/giant groupers oso can.
As for reel size 3-4k enough d i suppose.

haha. just a suggestion plenty of other rods within your budget to look for, ie, xzoga, expert graphite, fenwicks
best is u go to the tackle shop n try one that suits u. just inform the boss ur budget, target fish, type of fishing.

yes i wud agree that the AJN lacks lifting power. not much of a backbone.

eh which AJN u lookin for? the APR series? JJJ series?
yea heard the catch rates & sizes are very disappointing at hulu langat
to me if u wana pull mekongs here in msia: 1) kolam seksyen 24 or 2) bukit tambun mekong pond.

wah what rod was he using? that fella has pulled in everything, from aligators to birds.
btw, true the ryojin price shot up momentary following limited stocks initially, but it drop price after new stocks came in (& apparently with improved reel arm after a few cases of the arm broke off while fighting )

ahh the missus. some suggestions of ponds with mekongs:

1) kolam seksyen 24 aka. kolam warga emas (@ section 24 shah alam)
Rate: rm30+ for 10 hours i think. (correct me if wrong)
Bait: Can buy there or bring your own to mixes/ingredients/flavorings.
Mekongs: plenty, with sizes up to 30kg++. in addition got weekly jackpot.
Catch rate: High pressure due to popularity. on weekends + the crowd sometimes no place to put rod stand even.
Comfort: They have huts all over the pond with chairs. No fan la.
Bring bro katsumoto2011 when u go. Sure catch, he's a regular i think. lol

2) bukit tambun mekong pond (@ bukit tambun, penang. not the perak tambun yea! )
Rate: 30+ whole day if not wrong
Bait: Provided i think rm10 per bucket. only house bait allowed.
Mekongs: Sizes not as big as seksyen 24 one. 10-20kg got la. much smaller pond also. jackpot on certain tagged fishes
Catch rate: Higher than sekysen 24 due to pond size and also the use of only house bait.
Comfort: Refer pic below. And also abit smelly because got small river/parit behind it


3) monster mekong pond (@ Kundang, Rawang)
Personally never go but can check out this link HERE
For others i think you can check out the same blog. Quite an extensive database of the payponds in Malaysia by a very dedicated blogger

APR i think they taking in stock end of the year. yep tested before. even tried the first version of the AJN rod as well few years back when it was new to the market. but currently, i only own the JJJ.

i will be in KL next weekend. however only available in the mornings. planning to hit Exotic Rawang on Saturday morning & EAK on Sunday morning hopefully.
EAK still open ka bro? rates n opening time nowadays how? been long time since I went there

slightly over 500 bro for the 10-20lb. yeap 1pc. 6"4ft.

hmmm ic. will give it a try if time & weather permits.

RM 43 for 12 hours. Previously I only get to fish like 3 hours there before a freak storm hit the place and sent tables & chairs flying.
According to the boss he gonna add more ponds in the future. If wana cast, try from opposite bank better.

yeap. at the moment only 2 ponds are available, the main one which is shared with bottomers (whom land most of the catches you see) and the small toman pond at the side.

if spinning rods for casting at the 100 price range, the rods u stated is good enough.
planning on ultralight setup?

that one was the tambaqui jumping, abit sideways.

ahh ic. yea kuying is nice for UL, plus the teton has fuji as well.
ganko is pretty rare though. good luck looking for it

i personally own a nemesis II 4-10lb. has caught me cats, groupers and snakeheads with it. for the price it's pretty decent rod. i still fish with it occasionally, but one of my guides has signs of rust already.
i have not tried the storm tbh, but i heard the blank pretty similar to the okuma nemesis.
