if you plan on going for mekong better take reel size 5k  and zagan pe4

need heavier setup

as for uglystick is the legendary wont break fishing rod it live up to it legend
just 1 thing i dont like about it is it weight much heavier then graphic rod , not suitable for casting
*
But pond operator suggested pe1-3 rod. Reel size really need so big? biggrin.gif hmm, then I won't go for ugly stik. Any other rod besides eupro? Zagan seems light and powerful, will consider zagan. Any other suggestions for rod? As for reel you reckon 3000 enough?

you need a bass rod not a trout rod. APN is a trout rod no lifting power. In Malaysia bass rod is more suitable.

haha. just a suggestion icon_rolleyes.gif plenty of other rods within your budget to look for, ie, xzoga, expert graphite, fenwicks
best is u go to the tackle shop n try one that suits u. just inform the boss ur budget, target fish, type of fishing.

what type of fishing you into ?

bait aka bottom fishing or casting ?
*
so far only freshwater around the ponds in Damansara, PJ, Kelana Jaya & Tmn Danau Desa & some pay pond. Went to Palau Ketam once for tons of small fishes.
I'm fairy new in fishing as i doesnt hav much knowledge in it.

So far my exp: only caught tilapia, baung, keli, red tail cat fish, peacock bass, sek yan chong, ect...
I have 2 rods with 30pounds "cloth string" attached. 2k reel for 6" rod and 3k reel for 5" +

Used live bait before, included small parang, prawns, keli, sek sut, worms, chicken livers & fish food.

Bottom Fishing & Float at the moment. Bough a fake frog to try but lost it cause kena stuck before i get anything...
My friend that got me into fishing is not fishing anymore...So i always go fishing alone most of the time.

Sincerely looking for guides & sifus to hang out with m(_ _)m Please do send me a msg via wechat, whatapps or anything. My number: 0166002251.
Thank you in advance!

any anglers here caught bawal emas before from surf fishing on the beach before?
*
did some survey on catching bawal emas....it is close to impossible to catch them on rod and line, here is the reason:
1: the mouth is sooooo small u have to use very small hook
2: they hang around mid water so bottom feeding is out of question, only way is to play by float...when u play float, with small hook....in such big sea....what are the chances? lol.. plus, small hook, small bait, easy target for other small fishes, they will kacau your bait....

only person i heard caught with rod and line was a restaurant operator in sabah, just next to his restaurant and cast by the beach, but i think it was pure luck

maybe i'm wrong, u can try google up a bit about bawal emas...good luck, if there is any info please share here...thx

wah blink.gif what rod was he using? that fella has pulled in everything, from aligators to birds. tongue.gif
btw, true the ryojin price shot up momentary following limited stocks initially, but it drop price after new stocks came in (& apparently with improved reel arm after a few cases of the arm broke off while fighting laugh.gif)

ahh the missus. icon_idea.gif some suggestions of ponds with mekongs:

1) kolam seksyen 24 aka. kolam warga emas (@ section 24 shah alam)
Rate: rm30+ for 10 hours i think. (correct me if wrong)
Bait: Can buy there or bring your own to mixes/ingredients/flavorings.
Mekongs: plenty, with sizes up to 30kg++. in addition got weekly jackpot.
Catch rate: High pressure due to popularity. on weekends + the crowd sometimes no place to put rod stand even.
Comfort: They have huts all over the pond with chairs. No fan la. biggrin.gif
Bring bro katsumoto2011 when u go. Sure catch, he's a regular i think. lol tongue.gif

2) bukit tambun mekong pond (@ bukit tambun, penang. not the perak tambun yea! icon_idea.gif )
Rate: 30+ whole day if not wrong
Bait: Provided i think rm10 per bucket. only house bait allowed.
Mekongs: Sizes not as big as seksyen 24 one. 10-20kg got la. much smaller pond also. jackpot on certain tagged fishes
Catch rate: Higher than sekysen 24 due to pond size and also the use of only house bait.
Comfort: Refer pic below. And also abit smelly because got small river/parit behind it

3) monster mekong pond (@ Kundang, Rawang)
Personally never go but can check out this link HERE
For others i think you can check out the same blog. Quite an extensive database of the payponds in Malaysia by a very dedicated blogger

dont bother go hulu langat , expansive , small mekong , limited fishing time , poor bite rate
not to mention only house bait , float , hook are allow , that mean you have to pay extra for it
