I think the problem with Skrtel is that he isn't athletic and he turns like a truck. This is why he's grabbing players, because the can't keep pace with them and he can't outjump them. Hence he relies on brute strength. I think it's fine to watch the player especially if you've lost he flight of the ball. After all, the eyes don't lie and you can tell from looking at your opponents face where the ball is and when it's coming but you're right that in the case of Skrtel it isn't as much about reading the flight of the ball as it is about clattering into the opposing player or playing tug-a-war with his shirt.

On the note on shirt tugging, I have never seen any top defender not resorting to shirt pulling. Most of the time, and usually it's may not be caught by cameras/referees. And there are those who are perpetual tuggers. But I have seen almost all premiership defenders will shirt pull/tug/jostle when fighting for positions.

In skrtel's case, he isn't the biggest build defender nor the tallest. He make up with aggression on his side, at times resorts to intimidate by shirt pulling. Why else would BR names him ahead as of of the CD?

You want culture, history, you also need money to succeed.

If not FSG come with 200~300 millions pounds, then I cannot imagine what the situation Liv will be.

So no point to say other club success is because of money.
FSG's money is also a big money as same as other clubs.

Yes, good to have retain culture and history, but to looking forward to succeed, you need money as well.

As defender, if you position in front of attacker, the attacker can sneak elsewhere, whereby you lose your market.
If at back of the attacker, then you are not able to win any header.
So with shirt pulling/tugging, you won't lose your marker.

You need some aggression in physical game in EPL.

As long as no pulling until the attacker fall down, I seldom see referee give it as foul.
But there is fine margin, whereby defender need to be wary of it that not until giving out penalty.

Somehow, it can be too crowded in penalty box during set-piece/corner, not easy spotted by referee.
Referee doesn't have a view like us in front of TV. View easily blocked by dozen of players in the box.
Referee only have a pair of eye, cannot simultaneously see dozen of players inside.

I think we all can agree that this coming winter window is of utmost important for us and we should see it as an opportunity to push further forward and see where it will lead us. It is also important to make astute business decision and sign the players that we need, that can make a difference to the already impressive squad.

We dont have Europe matches and yes, by the look of it, we are alittle thin but that doesnt mean we need 4 to 5 players. We need only 1 or 2 good players to compliment us further as we wait for the players that are out injured to come back.

And yes, this is our chance. If we sign somebody, the hope will raise further, but so what? We need to make a gamble and not fearing because of the increase expectation. I see opportunity and I would love it if BR makes full use of it.

No worries, Dennis. If at all they want to do something about it, then it would be just a first warning for his conduct and manner in giving an interview to the media.

So I doubt that they will immediately ban BR from 1 match or fine him. That would be inappropriate for what is term as a first time offender (even though it is harsh to even term this as an offense).

It's also important how and where the money is spent? City and Chelsea splurge mainly on players and wages which is why they make huge losses each year despite winning trophies. It's because of spending like this that Financial FairPlay was mooted. Unfortunately, the focus is usually on how much a club spends on players and not infrastructure like a new stadium and upgraded facilities.

FSG have always said they will not entertain the notion of deficit spending. In short, the club will spend what it earns and this is why they have worked aggressively to reduce overheads while increasing revenue. The more profit we make (gate earnings, tv revenue, commercial deals, merchandise sales, etc), the more the club will have to invest in players. It will take time because the books have yet to show a nett profit but when we do, the club will be far healthier than any of our rivals. Unfortunately deficit spending is a game for equity rich owners.

I've heard murmurings of us falling further behind our rivals but I think the owners are working on catching up with the likes of Man Utd and looking at the lucrative sponsorship deals we've signed, we are actually closing the gap in this respect. Results on the pitch may reflect otherwise but often, one needs to take one step back before taking two steps forward.
