render then rasterise lo...keeping the effect there of course will lag. even very powerful PC will lag also, just not as bad.... however rasterising = finalising, so beginners will have problems as they are still not sure with the final outcome so they tend to not rasterise and then lag and crash.

personally i have a PC for more hardcore stuff like rendering videos that might take 5-6 hours...my mac is for the luxury to do lighter stuff like programming or template designing anywhere..or as a really expensive powerbank when im outside  doh.gif . when required, i have my main PC which means i dont depend solely on my mac...however i use my mac most of the time as i don't usually require that much power and i can lay down on the bed with it.... cuz im not really a designer, im just stealing their jobs, occasionally biggrin.gif.

as you know. the mbp late 2013 has only 1 fan now and it will be quite hot under heavy load and obviously bad if put to stress for a prolonged time..... so use it wisely and it should be ok (monitor temp and pause job if getting too hot, save and restart if it begin to swap alot etc..)

800g you wont fill much diff in the bag wan la.. it's like adding a 800ml bottle of water only. regardless, if carried for a long time both will end up weighing about the same biggrin.gif .. and i dont think you will be carrying it around everywhere you go.. malaysia not safe le suddenly tio rob then sian.... that's why sometimes i carry my mac in an eco shopping bag as decoy thumbup.gif
*
I see..then i will just skip mac then. sad.gif the body is really nice tho.
Thanks alot for the info smile.gif

or buy a imac biggrin.gif.. that one sure no problem

get normal laptop first as a you dont have a powerhouse yet.. what's more youre still a student and youre still unsure.. and your course should be teaching in windows.

give it a year or so (and when ptptn money comes in... yes, i know brows.gif) then only get the mac you wanted which by then.. it will be a broadwell, and also there is a macbook air retina by then.
and you dont have to worry about windows cuz you still have your windows workstation

however in all honesty i will heavily suggest you getting a desktop.. yes its going against all the previous suggestion but it's for the budget and ease of maintenance and upgrades.

Hi everyone,

Have a huge concern.

I was watching movie in youtube while being powered by battery (not plugged in).

Watched about 50 minutes.

The fan was whirling like crazy and temperature as measured by Intel's Power Gadget was 88 degrees C.

By the end of the movie, battery level was about 45% left.

Is the temperature normal when watching movies? It's just like so freaking hot that I can't even put it on my lap.

Thanks.

Chrome or Safari? Is your youtube player using Flash or the HTML5 player?
Because Adobe Flash is such a resource hog that it is normal for it to heat up your mac LOL.
My MBPr turns hot too whenever I view flash videos or ads, but once I switched to the HTML5 player, it stays cool throughout.

I would uninstall Adobe Flash Player and force my browser to use the HTML5 player in youtube instead. Also use an extension such as ClickToFlash to stop Flash ads/videos from running automatically. If let's say in rare cases where the video is only available in Flash, I would open the video in Chrome (Chrome has its own built-in sandboxed Flash that is maintained separately). Otherwise, steer clear of flash. smile.gif

just bought my mbpr 13" yesterday... its my first ever mac so I'm still learning how the whole thing works and how its supposed to be

2 questions

i) i downloaded battery health to check on the battery, everything is nice as its supposed to be new, except the discharge cycle is 2... is this normal ?

ii) my mbpr comes with 8gb of RAM, however most of the time it just end up with 3gb - 4gb of free space. sometimes when opening safari with multiples tabs it will drop to 2gb+. i heard this is mavericks way of handling memory ?

Cycle charge 2-3 is kinda normal.

Mavericks reserved or should say allocate memory ahead just in case any big apps that needs resources.
