So pay over 10k for this pre pro CX5200 but cannot even do bass EQ properly? Btw why you mention bass management? I thought bass management is just to set crossover which is any basic receiver can do?
I read abit on minidsp. Seems like a good device, but I cannot understand why must spend even more when already paying for premium model pre pro.
bass management is a very general term. speaker small/large, speaker crossover, lfe crossover, bass on subwoofer, bass on speaker+subwoofer, eq, phase, etc.
basic receiver can do basic bass management. to better ones with more tweaking options.
people buy prepro mainly for cleaner audio. eq is a totally different subject.
"premium" is subjective. if you think yamaha is premium, what is dirac, storm audio, jbl synthesis, trinnov etc?
if your prepro has good eq option, you don't need minidsp (too noisy). minidsp is actually a budget hardware for eq.

Then why yamaha advertise like they are the best? Scam and bullshit?
I heard people say use good power cables and speaker cables is better instead of spending so much on room treatment which look ugly. This is what one shop told me. Is that true?
marketing.
your shop has failed terribly. they are trying to sell u stuff. the room or room treatment is number 1. electronic eq cannot fix that.

So you use minidsp for sub only? How you bypass the yamaha YPAO?
So you say cable story is maybe snake oil. This whole cable topic really making me headache. I don't know who to listen to already.
minidsp eq is downstream of avr/prepro eq. if the bass is well eq-ed by minidsp, there is nothing much to be eq-ed by the avr/prepro.
if u wanna try a budget auto eq device that is better than yamaha ypao and audyssey multEQ XT, u may get a 2nd hand dspeaker antimode.
join avsforum to learn the science. i'm a reference over preference kinda guy.
