unfortunately, the local tv terrestrial broadcasting is still in the stone age at standard definition with 4:3 display ratio. the best way to watch it is with the phased out plasma. bye.gif

what's your room size?
if your sitting distance is more than the screen width, you're still too far or the screen is still too small.

Any benefit or difference using XLR cable compare RCA cable.
*
the main reason is low noise floor. XLR balanced connection is very useful in long wire runs. unfortunately, unlike pro audio, not all consumer AV items have full balanced connection. selling XLR balanced connection with unbalanced signalling is a joke.
it's a deep rabbit hole.

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Jan 5 2017, 10:49 PM)
Doesn't work for my setup. Oppo players HDMI passthroughs adds quite a bit of input lag. I do play games, so that's a big no-no.

That said, HDMI 2.1 can be firmware patched into HDMI 2.0 hardwares provided the implementation was following the standard to begin with. So fingers crossed that my receiver gets it. But then again, companies want to milk their products and want to make money, so they probably might not even care.
*
what saitong09 means is:
Oppo output1 > TV (with post HDMI2.1 standard)
Oppo output2 > AVR/Prepro (without HDMI2.1 standard)
...and media playback from the Oppo itself. Nothing to do with Oppo inputs for passthrough.

SSJBen, are you saying Oppo output2 is more laggy than output1? If you're talking about the input, yes, all additional input stages produce lag.

I'm new so I didn't really know how to measure how loud I'm playing in dB
*
do you use an AVR or prepro? if yes, did you perform the calibration setup with the included mic? if yes, you should know the master volume.

Sorry my bad didn't notice there is a scale options to display the volume level in % or dB. My movie watching is around -22dB  - -17.5dB

Dual R115 should help with smoothing the frequency response.
If I were you, I'll go multi-subs any day.

Hello everyone. Want to ask..

I know that edifier produces pc speaker but there are 2 speaker system listed as 5.1 home theatre speakers - the DA5100 (rm789) and S760D (rm2299).

I am looking for a budget ready to play 5.1 system. Want to ask you guys who have seen/experience listening to those speakers. Are they good enough for living room use? Or are there any other better alternative? The cheaper is the better for me. Nowadays all product increase price so, budget very low. Lol

Thank you.
*
what is your source (player)?

if your source is a PC, then it's simple. most pc has 5.1 analog audio output. the edifier DA5100 has 5.1 analog input. connection is easy. for the S760D, it's easier as it has more input options & built in dolby digital & dts 5.1 decoder. you can use either the 6 pairs of analog input or a single digital coax or optical cable.

if your source is a typical dvd player and you want 5.1 audio, please check the type of audio output options the player has. if it has 6 pairs of rca outputs (for 5.1), both the DA5100 & S760D will work and give you 5.1 audio. if the player has optical or coax digital output, the player can send 5.1 dolby or dts via a single optical cable or coax cable.

good enough for living room use? different people have different expectation. the S760D has more power. i'd avoid the DA5100 in a living room as it will be too weak for such room size.

*Can someone enlighten me? During surround 5.1 calibration using the provided mic, how does the active subwoofer sound? I felt it sound too soft and low compare to the rest of the speakers. I set crossover frequency 80 and vollume at 50% at the back of the subwoofer, from the receiver i select bypass. Hmm wondering if this correct.
Anyone know can share what is the best crossover frequency for front L, front R, center, surroud L and surround R that should set on the receiver?

Use Speaker to line level converter.
Anyway, changing the AVR will be a better option.

I'm currently using the thin white speaker cables which I had for a long time (came with Yamaha package speakers). Any tips on where to get good speaker cables which are reasonably priced? 16 AWG should be good enough right? Maximum run will be 30 feet for rear surrounds. Not looking for fancy stuff but something that has a decent amount of copper.

Make sure you read this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speaker_wire#Wire_gauge
Wire size depends on length.

Agreed, most important is to enjoy listening to it by ourselves rather than just reading and getting opinions. To indulge in this hobby you need to experience it yourself by listening more and more... that's the beauty of it!

The only item lacking behind is projector. Probably have to wait a decade for consumer friendly Dolby Vision projectors.

please define your home theater system. how many speakers do you expect? 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 ? there's a huge price gap there.

Most budget AVR already support .2 Atmos heights.
