for me i will prefer 5.1 over 3.1.2. because as for current there are more movies/video with 5.1 than atmos. Some movie even with atmos also only have 10 to 20 mins of ceiling sound so ur speaker will be sitting idle there. 5.1 however is a more common setup. Basic surround movie will give u this surround effect. the placement can be on the side of your bed..

just slightly behind ur bed will do..

upfiring is hit or miss.. it required perfect reflection to reach your ear.. u need to adjust the speaker to reflect to you properly.. you may end up ur speaker being place at the awkward location like the middle of your walkway.. if u really wan atmos u can consider ceiling speaker for better effect..

Sorry for interrupting.
I am also thinking to fix ceiling speaker for atmos. But from what u said it is like the ceiling speaker is not worth at all to install. Is it means that 5.1 is actually more than enough for a home theater??🤔🤔how abt 7.1??

He didn't say ceiling speakers aren't worth it, he said upfiring speakers aren't worth it.

Ceiling speakers are great for atmos, as long as you mount them in the correct location. There are some rules to follow, not simply just drill 4 holes and call it a day.

for hdr, buy the best avr, retain original speaker enough.
for audio, buy the best speaker. forget about the rest

i think shifus had help to reply.. both ktek and ssjbean made my point..
if u wan to play atmos ceiling speaker is better compare to upfiring speaker. For me 5.1 is the fundamental of surround.. other are extra that will give u the oomph... if the movie utilize those channels then only you will experience it... i would say the utilization for the rest of the channel pretty low.. if u watch non action movie i would say 90% of the audio will come from your front set only..invest ur best buck to give the best of front then slowly add the surround then to rear/atmos.. those are consider luxury if u have the budget then go ahead.. 1 rule thou.. buy those amp > no of ur speaker.. if u r planning for 7.1 get avr that support 9.1/11.1.. especially denon.. the more speakers u r connecting to it the more power being distributed to each speakers.. thats why i m still running 5.1 even i have a 7.1 capable avr

Surround sound doesn’t matter is 5.1 or what ever configuration the sound coming from each speaker won’t be much. Usually the center and front speakers are the most used in a movie. The rest of the speakers are fillers. So this is the part of how serious are you in setup of multi channels for movies. If you experience before surround And atmos most likely you won’t go back again.

Hi,
Anyone here tried anker nebula or xiaomi compact projector?
I am looking as Not as a primary watching screen but maybe a 2in1 portable or secondary screen in the house.
Any experience with either of these?

I had the Anker Nebula Mars, if you ask me... it's really more for use as a projector to do presentation slides or quick, 5 minute videos. Watching a movie on it? Yeah... well. Lol. No thanks.

I have a few choices for subwoofer, my room size is like 3m x4m small height around 3m also. my budget for subwoofer is like 1-1.5k, i have come down to this list:
1) Polk Audio PSW 111 1.2k
2) Definitive Technology ProSub 800 1.6k
3) Yamaha MusicCast SUB 100 1.7k
4) Yamaha Yamaha NS-SW300 1.5k
5) Wharfedale WH-S8E rm1k
6) Audio Pro Living LV-Sub rm1.1k
7) ELAC Debut 2.0 S8.2 rm1k
8) Mission MS-300 rm 1.5k

due to space and budget constraint, these are the subwoofer i can get. I see polk audio psw111 is most recommendable but i saw Definitive Technology ProSub 800 definitely can pack a punch.

What's wrong with Wharfedale sub? It looks exactly like one of the Mission sub, probably from same IAG factory?

i have bad experience with diamond series sw150. cannot go low for its size.
new mission looks alike smile.gif prolly no go.

Ben, polk & deftech seems good to go. pls research on their reliability becos this brand less popular here compared to oversea.
subwoofer i always pick usa brand as priority
