no diff as both brand are not woofer specialist anyway.
pioneer subwoofer from todoroki set?
*
i dont think so, is pioneer s-31w, rm700. topup abit can get polk audio pws111 or elac s8.2 at around 1k.. maybe is a better choice.

I will prefer Yamaha too

okies thanks for the info.. i found 1 cheap onkyo receiver which can do 3.1.2 the tx-sr393.. it is much cheaper at 1.5k, but is like really barebone receiver with dolby atmos support. my current setup i definitely will not be doing any side firing and back surround as this is a bedroom setup, my listening position for movies is always when i am lying on the bed, similar to like a hotel bed and the tv setup. So i can only do 3.1 as the side is left side is wall but right side is wardrobe.. only way is to diy and mount the speaker to my divan head lol.. so is this receiver worth or i better just spend more to get something like v685 or denon s750h.. so dilemma on my setup, i can also only do upfiring for atmos.. my room height around 8-10ft but listening position is like 3m from my TV.

for me i will prefer 5.1 over 3.1.2. because as for current there are more movies/video with 5.1 than atmos. Some movie even with atmos also only have 10 to 20 mins of ceiling sound so ur speaker will be sitting idle there. 5.1 however is a more common setup. Basic surround movie will give u this surround effect. the placement can be on the side of your bed..
user posted image
just slightly behind ur bed will do..

upfiring is hit or miss.. it required perfect reflection to reach your ear.. u need to adjust the speaker to reflect to you properly.. you may end up ur speaker being place at the awkward location like the middle of your walkway.. if u really wan atmos u can consider ceiling speaker for better effect..
*
i see.. 5,1 is definitely no because my beside is just enough for walking.. the wardrobe side is i cant be hanging the speaker on the door of the wardrobe lol.. gonna rethink it again.

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Mar 24 2020, 05:50 PM)
Here's a different perspective since your space is quite limited, how about you throw all those plans away in having surround and just put ALL your budget into the best L + R speakers you can buy? Yes, I'm saying just do stereo.

One pair of good speakers are way better than 5 lousy speakers for the same price. Let that sink in for a moment.
*
i see.. i am not sure my side speaker is good or not, but i am using this https://www.highfidelityreview.com/tweak-city-waf-1.html for my L+R, then this is my current centre speaker https://www.highfidelityreview.com/av123-x-...el-speaker.html . my receiver is yammy v475 quite old already. both are bought from an audio shop in kuching. so with 2.1 i can get very good surround sound? cos i think the centre speaker still very important..

+1
ben3003, id also recommend to double /triple up your budget go middle/ high end 2 channel. its so good that i never imagine so much potentials than 5.1 surround setup

ps: got two Ben here
*
wat kind of 2ch is actually good? elac debut series? my budget cannot too over.. now recession time also but i think my L+C+R current setup macam good enuf.. sweat.gif sweat.gif

I will tell you something that most people with a center channel would not like to admit - dedicated center channels are trash. When you flip a speaker over horizontally, to make the cabinet as small as possible so that it can fit below a display and then you try to cram in another driver (or 2, or 3) that is usually smaller than the L/R, the first compromise is usually the crossover. Tweeters are also naturally designed for horizontal wide dispersion, not vertical (unless you go for ribbon tweeters).

ALL center channels are approached with a compromise in design. You cannot beat physics.

The only good center channel is if you have the same exact speaker as your L and R.  The only reason to have a dedicated center channel is if you have multiple seats, so that people on the left and right of you can still hear dialogue from the middle of the screen. If you are sitting alone, a phantom center is 99/100 times better than a dedicated center as both your L/R speakers are doing the work instead of a single puny center.
*
okies.. sweat.gif when i bought my centre, i did not know it was so huge as and it weight 33lbs.. now my TV sit on it lol cos no where to put. it is damn huge. Their pairing speaker should be x-ls encore but i did not have budget for it back then. Probably now i should switch back to L R only?

oh i remember u d. from east msia one.
i guess you are able spend subwoofer 1k & avr 1.5k = 2500

*** suddenly i saw sonerin let go b&w cm8 wow 3.5k ***
yeah i mean this kind of 2ch is actually good & modern look if u able get them
*
3.5k.. kinda out of my budget lol.. yeah that is what most likely i can spend.. cant spend too much.. maybe i should focus on getting an AVR first..my current AVR cant even passthru HDR.

any cheaper L+R that i should get or should i just keep my current setup and use my centre as my TV base? LOL

Another idea: i saw somebody from east malaysia actually selling a unit of the same centre speaker for rm500, which it was around rm1k+ years back. Maybe i can use the MTM setup centre speaker as my L+R? gonna buy a better stand tho.. current stand too small for it lol..

whats ur aim for the upgrade actually?
for hdr, buy the best avr, retain original speaker enough.
for audio, buy the best speaker. forget about the rest
*
ya mostly for watching movie and gaming.. so just upgrade my av receiver will do for the time being? should i give up my centre channel?

I have a few choices for subwoofer, my room size is like 3m x4m small height around 3m also. my budget for subwoofer is like 1-1.5k, i have come down to this list:
1) Polk Audio PSW 111 1.2k
2) Definitive Technology ProSub 800 1.6k
3) Yamaha MusicCast SUB 100 1.7k
4) Yamaha Yamaha NS-SW300 1.5k
5) Wharfedale WH-S8E rm1k
6) Audio Pro Living LV-Sub rm1.1k
7) ELAC Debut 2.0 S8.2 rm1k
8) Mission MS-300 rm 1.5k

due to space and budget constraint, these are the subwoofer i can get. I see polk audio psw111 is most recommendable but i saw Definitive Technology ProSub 800 definitely can pack a punch.

subwoofer i always pick usa brand as priority
*

new fuse marking T or F
T is time delay. will allow over ampere when 1st power on & operating
F is fast action. usually not for audio
*
let me check again.. but i think i bought the exact one. because it is abit special so i bought it from rs online.

no worry for good brand. as long item is running condition & never repair

okies.. now i am thinking to keep my avr to wait for new one, instead just budget on getting a new subwoofer. How about elac debut sub s10eq or sub1010? i saw earlier thread SSJBen did recommend elac s10eq which is currently around 2.2k.. svs sb1000 is now 3.5k.. damn macam too out of budget..
