Though both are of different 'type' of cameras, I had a similar dilemma between EM5 and X100S. I chose the X100S in the end.

If image stabilization is a big deal for you, get the em5. It will pair well with the Pana-leica 25mm f1.4 lens. You can get pre-owned for both at a nice price.

If you are keen to go for XE-1/2 with the 35mm, do note that it is actually f1.4 (not f2 as u mentioned) - thus the lack of image stabilization during low light is compensated by the larger aperture. Or you can also get the 18-55 with built in OIS.

Why I chose the Fuji, aside from the stunning image reproduction is the manual control experience - the tactile feel when you fiddle around with the aperture ring, the shutter speed dial, as well as the exposure compensation dial. It gives me a sense of intuitive control.

Just my 2cents, hope it helps to give you a different perspective. My advice is to go try out both cameras and decide for yourself

OIS is very important on shooting video....on shooting pic i think is not that essential....
35mm f2 you can set the minimum shutter around 1/125 sec...then auto ISO up to 6400....
i never have blurred shot on x100s with this settings....

It's about interchange vs fix lens , quite hard for me to choose actually 

But if i go GX7 , i will take the primes f1.7 only , which is same as x100s fit focal length too , i won't get the kit lens since i already have canon 60D + 17-55mm , the Gx7/x100s will be my backup camera only , so stil deciding

Had the same dilemma few weeks ago. Eventually bought the X100S as my primary camera, to replace the humble Lumix LX3 (a very awesome compact).

I chose the X100s over XE1 due to the smaller footprint - easier to manage and store. It's also equivalent to the 35mm focal length. If I were to buy the XE1, I would be using the 35mm prime anyway so I did not mind the fixed focal length of the X100S
Besides that, it's RM400-600 cheaper than an XE1 + 35mm.

Fuji X100 is a camera you like it to your deep heart or use it once is on eBay already, is not a camera for everyone, but once it suit your photography style then it is your shooting buddy

Zoom lens are good when you need the extra reach for wider or tighter view. But this happen to me, let say i have the 18-55mm kit lens, i always use to 18mm or 55mm end and rarely use the middle range, and i have to think what zoom range i have to use to shoot my subject. So when i select and zoom, i might miss the decisive moment.

So in the end i pick a fixed focal lens, as i roughly know how wide or tight my lens can give me, so when i street shooting, i can roughly preframe my subject with my eye and when my subject is ready, i am ready.

i preframe, when he look towards me, i got my shot


plus i like optical viewfinder, so i vote for the X100/s, why not get the best of both world with its hybrid viewfinder?
or straight go for XPro-1 

actually i was thinking about this beforehand.. i played with the x100s which has the 23mm length and i thought that this length is just nice for me..not too wide not too tele. with my 60d setup i'm with the 17-40 and more often than not i'm towards the wide end. of course la easy to say so lazy why not just take 5 step back 35mm become 23m, but what if i in not so wide room and i'm already with my back against the wall? to make 23mm become 35mm is ok ma, can walk forward 5steps, to make 35mm become 23mm a bit difficult if space is limited.

also, this is actually my first time using just primes haha. now i understand why people say with primes you actually learn how to compose your shots properly. you can't zoom, need to move to find the shot you want. but i like it a lot, i like the weight too. i can go hawker stall bring my x-pro 1 and people won't stare at me (except for photography enthusiasts la they recognise x-series which i think attracts the attention of a lot of photography enthusiasts)

Get xe2 better hehe

Never consider a x-m1? X trans sensor with new processor that found in xe2 and x100s , and its half of the price from xpro xe2 , view finder is nothing for me after come from dslr, I even happy using the live view to shot, I can compose even better, more creative angle rather only rely on ur eyes level.

If budget is a problem for u, pls consider the x-m1, it got dual dail which  can change setting faster just like the x100s and xe1 do.

The downside of x100s is its a fix length, I rather have something zoom + a primes , or a 14/18mm + a 35mm f1.4 rather than just stick to the 23mm at x100s , get something within ur budget, a camera just a tools hehe, don get something that u need to eat white bread for the next few month. Just my advice.

yeah i agree. I had it for a few short days and wide open it is really sharp. even the 23mm is really sharp wide open   ..anyone excited about the 56mm f/1.2 release tomorrow  ?

some shots from my first day here in Korea! last photo may look a bit uninteresting but I was sitting down having breakfast (which is the 2nd last photo, Korean Toast    ) and something outside caught my eye as I was sitting beside the window and I thought it was raining. I looked outside and it was snowing (not heavily, but still snow!). My first time seeing snow  

btw the X-Pro 1 + 23mm metallic body is SO COLD in winter!! but it's very fun to walk around with a small camera, much more convenient than a DSLR
