ic, i search some info on web, the bitcoin is very hard to get. you need a supercomputer to mine it and average is roughly 1bt per day.

i've did some research and experiment yesterday. btc-e works fine pretty fast transaction(LTC-> USD) but the only drawback is high minimum withdrawing limit which is 500usd and 7% processing fees charged for paypal. as far as i know paypal is the closest method we could get in malaysia.

7990 need high wattage psu. in the end efficiency vs cost not good compared to multiple 7950/7970/R9 280X. There are talks that R9 290 maybe the next king of efficiency but i have yet seen the exact proof of it.

yup, specially designed chips / hardware to mine bitcoins.

even if you're pooling, the difficulty is too high to compete with those ASICs, most probably nowadays you'll only get 0.1 BTC per month.

your ppl wanna use Bc to earn Bc then convert to get profit.

1) tranfer BC/ sold Bc/ sharing Bc /buy Bc cannot be track.
hence rasuah, cuci duit hitam can not be track, bagi alasan wa dapat dari mining.

2) Bit Coin/ Bit torrent, major use to sharing/ uploading / downloading information, easi access without third party (bank or security) sensor. hence easi to hack, steal data & information....& the price is priceless.

3) BC just a bait, even 1 BC worth 1k USD, but it is nothing for the creator, it just a small amount, The reason bhide maybe wanna tutup his rahsia for data collection & exchange.

1. yes
2. nope
3. nope

Those stealing data, loses of bitcoins on exchange etc. is not due to the bitcoin system, but their own. it's just like people hacking bank websites etc. Also, FYI, the bitcoin code is public license hence everyone can view the code to provide transparency smile.gif

Some things I don't like about bitcoin:

1."Unfair" distribution of coins. Early adopters who hoard coins become millionaires. Only people willing to invest in high end mining equipment can afford to mine coins without losing money on electricity. Group mining is a must now.

2. Difficult to transfer funds to purchase coins. Usually, there will be a 3rd party in there to take a transaction fee. China's BTC exchange has less fees but I don't trust them.

3. Bitcoin is deflationary. There can be no more than 21 million in existence but there can be less than 21 million due to "lost" coins.

4. Unstable value makes it more of a speculative virtual item rather than a legitimate currency. Maybe it will settle to some stable value in the future.

1. same like gold lo.
2. same. u buy gold also need 3rd party, cannot get gold easily from gold mine.
3. same like gold or other precious mineral. limited/finite resource.
4. yup, for now. since the market is still small capping at USD 12 billion. if the market reaches trillions i dont think anyone have the power to speculate it anymore.

yes people who has the money and money can always goreng the price. in anything also la. just like gold price now when all the bik mama in china suddenly sell all their gold and the price goes down currently.

saham not the same because it depends on the company's performance.

bitcoin uses electricity as its 'sacrifice' (i dunno the exact word for it), it's not created out of thin air. processing power (or mining) in Bitcoin is used to maintain its public transaction ledger and log known as the blockchain

not nothing at all la. blockchain is the thing where u can verify the coins come from where going to where etc.. since it's all about currency, we need something to maintain it right? else if blockchain dont have, i can scam u for example u want to buy bitcoins from me, bank in already the money and then i say i send already to your wallet but actually i dont. since there's no blockchain, there's no way u can verify that i really send or not.

there are talks of using blockchain as alternative to email address. well the tech is still at its infancy so i think there's more can be done. smile.gif

What are the 'complex equations' solved contribute to?
The value in electricity used, what is it converted to? Anything of value?

For example, folding@home, end product is computed simulations of cancer proteins (or the like), But I don't see what is all the processing power used in mining bit coins finally converted into.

What are the 'complex equations' solved contribute to?
The value in electricity used, what is it converted to? Anything of value?

For example, folding@home, end product is computed simulations of cancer proteins (or the like), But I don't see what is all the processing power used in mining bit coins finally converted into.
*
it is contributed to maintaining the bitcoin ledger a.k.a blockchain. since bitcoin is a P2P concept and u need something to maintain each and every transactions of bitcoins, u need something like blockchain.

not nothing at all la. blockchain is the thing where u can verify the coins come from where going to where etc.. since it's all about currency, we need something to maintain it right? else if blockchain dont have, i can scam u for example u want to buy bitcoins from me, bank in already the money and then i say i send already to your wallet but actually i dont. since there's no blockchain, there's no way u can verify that i really send or not.

there are talks of using blockchain as alternative to email address. well the tech is still at its infancy so i think there's more can be done. smile.gif

yep. hence why it's not feasible anymore to mine bitcoins using normal computer. people are venturing into the world of ASIC aka highly specialized miner now.

The hashing power is used to solve a block = 25 Bitcoins. Each block solved is like a public ledger for transactions to be written on it.

If you would take 20 mins to watch this:

*
you just sum up the problem with every cryptocurrency out there, that's why some (LTC) try out different ways to discourage ASIC mining, while others like PPC include proof-of-stake to increase the cost of monopolizing the currency.

I understand the appeal to Bitcoin. I don't like the private bank-controlled currency that gives certain people way too much power either. I like the fundamental concept of Bitcoin, a digital currency run by no one person, but by an open source program that works on its own. However, if something like Bitcoin is to be sound, it ought to be stable as well. Bitcoin is not stable. Perhaps someone could get the source code and modify it in such a way to create a cryptocurrency that is not finite but also accumulates in line with the economy its supposed to represent. Perhaps an economist could be better suited to describe how this might be done.

Finally got a official bitcoin thread. Anyway gift you all a classic proverb.
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.â€

So wait no more and invest in bitcoin now! And anyone who have a good ATI card should mine Litecoin too, kinda profitable recently.

Finally got a official bitcoin thread. Anyway gift you all a classic proverb.
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.â€

So wait no more and invest in bitcoin now! And anyone who have a good ATI card should mine Litecoin too, kinda profitable recently.

still, not many would've put that much money and gamble on it. they prefer the more traditional way e.g. trust fund, mutual fund, fd, REIT etc.

Bubbles
Many have mentioned speculative bubbles in connection with Bitcoin.[50][51][52] Professor John Quiggin of the University of Queensland has noted that since Bitcoin by design has no intrinsic value, it is "perhaps the finest example of a pure bubble" currently known, but cautions that we have no way to predict when the value of bitcoins will return to zero.[53]
Nick Colas, a market strategist for ConvergEx Group, has remarked on the effect of increasing use of Bitcoin and its restricted supply, noting, "When incremental adoption meets relatively fixed supply, it should be no surprise that prices go up. And that’s exactly what is happening to BTC prices."[54]
Speculation
Bitcoins are often traded as an investment[55] by speculators who expect the currency to increase in value as its popularity widens.[40][56] Bitcoins have been described as lacking intrinsic value as an investment because their value depends only on the willingness of users to accept them.[57] Their vulnerability to hacking also makes their use as an investment more questionable.[40]
Derivatives of bitcoins are thinly available. One organization offers futures contracts against multiple currencies.[58]
Certain investment funds have shown interest in Bitcoin with Peter Thiel's Founders Fund investing US$3 million, and the Winklevoss twins making a US$1.5 million personal investment.[59]

from wiki.... the value arise from the article written bout it in late 2012...

First mentioned in a 2008 paper published under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin became operational in early 2009.[26] The currency had early technical problems such as a 2009 exploit that allowed the creation of unlimited bitcoins.[30]
On average, bitcoins have appreciated rapidly in relation to other currencies including the US dollar, euro and British pound.[21] In 2011 the value of one bitcoin rapidly rose from about $0.30 to $32, before falling back down to $2.[31] Bitcoin began attracting media attention in late 2012, and numerous news articles have been written about it. In 2013, some mainstream services such as OkCupid, Baidu, Reddit, Humble Bundle and Foodler began accepting it.[32] That year also saw the first interventions by law enforcement. Assets belonging to the Mt. Gox exchange were seized, and the Silk Road drugs market was shut down.[33]

like that lo usually for. ppl mining then exchange for btc. they no intend to do buysell also. hence, why these coins are called 'scamcoins'.

the procedure :

1. see bitcointalk alternate crypto subforum
2. wait for new coin launch
3. after new coin launch faster go mining
4. petition to include in exchange like cryptsy or others
5. after include in exchange faster go dump it.
6. repeat (1)

After that, of course with some tweaking and nom nom nom.

I'm using Eligius as my primary pool, with BitMinter as my secondary pool in case ammoshaf happened on the main pool.

I've earned approximately 0.015BTC~~USD14

Roughly 0.02BTC/hour ~ USD19/hour

System will run 24/7 nonstop ~ USD450/day at current USD965/btc rates.

In case anyone wondering how much I spent. Everything is paid in cash and not BTC. So I'm not affected by the BTC rate on that time.

Machine - USD5200 (incl shipping)
1050W PSU - Free (Given by friends)
Electricity consumption - Output around 660W at the moment
Electricity bill? - Did not even make a dent in my profit

The profit will be shared only by me and my brother as we are the only one forking out all the money.

Will purchase Neptune soon once this goes smoothly.

do u intend to provide shares for jupiter later? since i guess most of us here intend to buy but doesn't have that much money. so probably someone sometime later would provide like for example 20 shares, 1 share around 2k USD just like in bitcointalk group buy.

and since you have safe trader tag, it's more feasible. icon_idea.gif

Currently, Jupiter ready stock worth about USD20k. I'm not planning to do any sharing at the moment, but for Neptune, I am considering it. I have the capital to play with 2 units of USD12k. Maybe in future lol.

Thanks, actually 2 front fan dropped earlier, but it's okay because they are using Arctic fan with clip case. So just slot it in back. I think they didn't slot it in originally to tell buyer that the clip is removable and interchangeable with other fan.

like that lo usually for. ppl mining then exchange for btc. they no intend to do buysell also. hence, why these coins are called 'scamcoins'.

the procedure :

1. see bitcointalk alternate crypto subforum
2. wait for new coin launch
3. after new coin launch faster go mining
4. petition to include in exchange like cryptsy or others
5. after include in exchange faster go dump it.
6. repeat (1)
usually use btc-e. but price there lower. if u know how to read chinese can trade at chinese exchanges like btcchina and okcoin
for sure.

The easiest way to convert RM -> BTC
1. Exchange for OKPAY USD with https://www.exchanger.my/
2. The best option to fund BTC-E USD is with OKPAY USD (2% Fee). Other fees higher.
3. Buy BTC.

BTC-E rate is usually lower than gox.

I'm planning to do a group share of 10 person for KncMiner Neptune (It will run about 3THs with predicted difficulty of about 2.5 billion upon receive).

It cost about USD13.5k inclusive of shipping.

Divided by 10 person, it will be USD1.35k per person. I've not include the cost of PSU yet which most probably needs 2x1000W PSU.

I will see how many interest buyer within this 3 days time. If there's not enough 10 person to share, I will not proceed with this offer.

If there's enough people, I will start drafting the projected profits and all other R&R.

This will be the second unit of Neptune as I have purchased first unit for self use.

dont mine bitcoin with your gpu now... its going to be very painful. Unless you have ASIC miner dont mine bitcoin, its just now worth it. Use your GPU to mine alt coins like LTC or FTC.

China’s central bank barred financial institutions from handling Bitcoin transactions, moving to regulate the virtual currency after an 89-fold jump in its value sparked a surge of investor interest in the country.

Bitcoin isn’t a currency with “real meaning†and doesn’t have the same legal status as a currency, the People’s Bank of China said. The public is free to participate in Internet transactions provided they take on the risk themselves, it said.

An unregulated digital currency may pose a threat to China’s capital controls. Regulatory oversight may restrain demand for Bitcoin in China, which exchange operator BTC China said has become the world’s biggest trader with more than half of global volumes. Surging Bitcoin prices have spurred investor protection concerns and prompted former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan to call it a “bubble.â€

Bitcoin prices plunged after the PBOC announcement.

Hey guy, want to ask something. Let say today the Bitcoin slam to 900 and I bought it (Mt.Gox-assume) and they only accept bitcoin and bank transfer. And if I use bank transfer for sure the transaction to be completed will take days. What if the day that the transaction been done and the bitcoin is climb until 1000. Which rate will I get?? 900 or 1000??

The game just changed.

Bitcoin, the bizarre electronic currency that seemingly came out of nowhere and has been taking over financial market headlines, is now being covered by one of the biggest firms on Wall Street.

"We believe Bitcoin can become a major means of payment for e-commerce and may emerge as a serious competitor to traditional money transfer providers," wrote Bank of America currency strategist David Woo in a 14-page note to clients this morning. "As a medium of exchange, Bitcoin has clear potential for growth, in our view."

This extremely volatile "cryptocurrency" crashed from $1,240 to a low of $870 this morning after the People's Bank of China announced Bitcoin coin handling restrictions for its country's banks.

Wall Street's coverage of Bitcoin seemed inevitable considering the amount of money moving in and out of it.

Here's more from Woo:

Store of wealth for the underground economy?
It has been reported that Bitcoin may help users avoid high taxes, capital controls, and confiscation. The correlation between CNY's share of volume of all Bitcoin exchanges and price of Bitcoin is high and rising (Chart 1). That said, the fact that all Bitcoin transactions are publically available and that every Bitcoin has a unique transaction history that cannot be altered may ultimately limit its use in the black market/underworld.

"Is Bitcoin a bubble?" asked Woo. "Assuming Bitcoin becomes (1) a major player in both e- commerce and money transfer and (2) a significant store of value with a reputation close to silver, our fair value analysis implies a maximum market capitalization of Bitcoin of $15bn (1BTC = 1300 USD). This suggests that the 100 fold increase in Bitcoin prices this year is at risk of running ahead of its fundamentals."

nope you don't. a wallet is just a place/software to store your bitcoins.

If you're using the original bitcoin wallet, your wallet address is the one in the 'Receive' tab. you can create many addresses for different things or for easier tracking e.g 1 for trading, 1 for online exchange, 1 just from friends. smile.gif

usb eruptor is ok, bitcoin mining is profitable only on ASIC miners now. But usb eruptor is running like 330MH/s, bitcoin's generation is slow because of the crazy difficulty spike. The arms race is the one causing this sillyness, crazy people keep putting higher and higher hashing machines and put the stakes even higher, padahal bitcoin's difficulty spike according to the total computational power. Total bitcoin's generation is still around the same per time frame, the only thing bigger hash machine's advantage is to take the higher percentage pie for the bitcoins, which is useless anyways since other people will pay so much to put in another faster machine.

For GPU mining better go find those coins that don't have ASIC hardware miners and dominated by GPU minings.

Bitcoin Crashed Today

Bitcoin's value plummeted today, by 25% from a high of over 1100 US dollars per BTC to a low value of under 830. The virtual currency, whose value has increased five-fold in just over one month, has been at risk of such a spectacular crash due to speculative investment in the now multibillion dollar market.

While the bitcoin market has historically been volatile, recent events have increased confidence in the currency. Prior to October, many investors avoided bitcoin due to the reputation of Silk Road - the largest bitcoin-only marketplace - as a trading post of illegal goods. Investors had long feared that a shutdown of Silk Road would result in a catastrophic crash of Bitcoin's exchange rate. However, following the October 1st arrest of Silk Road mastermind Ross Ulbricht and the site's shutdown, bitcoin's value dropped from 150 to 110 USD and within a week, recovered to 140 and continued to climb slowly.

At least two major events in November led to even more dramatic increases in Bitcoin investment, that ultimately brought about the current bubble. Increasing investment in China caused the BTC to USD exchange rate on the popular Mt. Gox exchange to reach 395 by mid-November. During the week of November 18th, US Senate hearings on virtual currencies revealed favorable opinions from lawmakers regarding the legitimate potential for cryptocurrencies in the US economy.

Mining pools have sprung up around the internet to support the currency's virtual mining efforts, and major commercial ASIC providers like Butterfly Labs have gone live, further increasing the miner volume.

Bitcoin continued to climb to this morning's value of over 1100, but confidence in Bitcoin was jarred by a change in its legal status in China, where yesterday it was announced that Chinese banks (but not citizens or exchanges) would be prohibited from all bitcoin transactions. Additionally, comments this week from Former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan claiming that Bitcoin's value was in a "bubble," together with this morning's report from Merrill Lynch regarding overvaluation of BTC may have contributed to today's dramatic selling spree.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this article stated that bitcoins' value increased almost 10-fold in the course of one month; their value in fact increased five-fold.

Price has gone up quite a bit.

I obviously can not sell less than the exchange rate.

They do but at the same time, monopolizing the hash rate will kill the network (Google for 51% attack). It's imperative that they keep the network alive in order to keep earning. Moreover, selling an ASIC is quite a lot more profitable than speculating for the price pet bitcoin to rise.

Btcchina price was lower than $400 per BTC at one point.

The rest of the exchanges around the world will follow this price on the next arbitrage cycle.

Either way, i welcome the fall. Atleast btc retains its true value, rather than being too speculative.

For miners, ROI in 1 year still consider very good.

No other business can give u ROI that fast lo.

Problem with BTC mining is, if you can't get ROI in 3 months, you will never be able to get back the investment.

If anyone interested in buying litecoin miner or hosting or both, send a pm.

sigh, cryptsy is so slow in confirming my dogecoin deposit, ended up unable to sell my dogecoin at 200 satoshi each. Just sold it for 150 satoshi and now it's at 120 satoshi, it'll keep on dropping until value stabilizes with other alt coins...

But still happy lar, managed to earn something worth 70-80 ringgit worth of digital money out of 2 weeks mining with laptop cpu hahhah

A 333 M hash miner cost more than 5k USD 3 months ago. It is a specialize hardware design to do one thing and one thing only.

How many coin were mine in 3 months? Is it better off buying 5k worth of BTC 3 months ago vs buying a miner and mine for 3 months?

And after 3 months, that 5k USD miner go for 50-60 USD? Did the buyer able to recoup the cost and by how much when compare to owning coin directly?

How much risk was taken when the buyer order a miner? Since most buyers can only take pre-order with company of no record of delivering on time.

With that being say, I like to offer to sell 1.6M hash lite coin miners. Delivery will probably be after New Year. The miner still have at least 50% value after one year (graphic card still worth more than 50% after a year).

Do ROI calculation on litecoin mining and risk analysis and see which one is better. Send a pm if anyone is interested in buying and hosting the miner with me.

Thank you

My bad. Messing up Giga HASH with Mega Hash since I have converted to litecoin mining.

That asic eruptor is pretty worthless the day it is sold as it will never ROI unless you mine peer coin.

I like to add that I did pre-order KNC Jupiter when bitcoin only worth less than 150 USD. That machine cost over 6k USD. When bitcoin went from 200 usd to 1200, Jupiter price only double while network difficulty went up 10 times.

Can, depends on what kind of graphics card. If:
Nvidia / Geforce = use cudaminer
AMD/Radeon = use cgminer
Intel HD4000 and above = use cgminer
else on CPU = pooler/cpuminer (minerd.exe)

The steps you need to take to mine:
1) Download and install dogecoin wallet, then get your dogecoin address for receiving coins.
2) Download and unzip either cudaminer/cgminer/cpuminer
3) Register on a pool such as http://doge.pool.webxass.de/index.php
4) Set up a new worker on the pool with unique worker id and password
5) set up the cudaminer/cgminer/cpuminer parameters to mine, for cudaminer and cpuminer you need additional stratum proxy software.

While RBI is yet to come out with a clear regulatory framework for bitcoins, which have been gaining currency across the world over the past few months, it has issued an advisory cautioning general public against use of bitcoins and other virtual currencies.
