I don't understand why you would want to use official 4.3  sweat.gif
CM is always my option to custom rom for vanilla android/ unleashing the power of my device.
Omni is also nice.
*
there are some good reasons...
#1. warranty period not over
#2. some apps like s note, etc is kinda nice
#3. some roms seem to have camera focus issue (s/w related) and this might be deal breaker for me

in my case, still using 4.3. i used it only coz i wanted to see how it would be, officially. having used it for a few weeks now, i can say i'm not happy at all.

so today... managed to find out how to root my n2 without triggering knox.

now just need to find out how to flash without increasing counter and permanently remove knox. <-- asked a few times but never really got a reply. then again, mine is AP set... so have to also make sure roms, kernels and what not mentioned are compatible with my set.

that saferoot did not work for me, got the address error and refuse to root,

the creator of the exploit has stated kernel has been patched , this tool will no longer works

but still work for some of us,

and not working on my note 2 sweat.gif
*
ya... could be not working for some. in fact, i suspect could be the update someone mentioned just now.

my AP set is kinda slow to receive updates, so i guess i was lucky i could still root my phone. and no more plans to get official updates since i'm kinda upset with 4.3. no more pop-up browser (and i could not find the exact version that i was using before 4.3) and a few other things... so, just need to research more and then flash. smile.gif

Just came back from Samsung Service center. They said need to change motherboard. Will cost me RM682 with only 1 month warranty. sad.gif Time to survey new phone.
*
personally, i feel Samsung's getting too 'big headed'. the only love i still have is the pen and also the big screen. for pen... i'm trying to see if i can live without it. big screen... plenty of options these days.

i do like some samsung stuff but their attitude is really bad. not sure what happened recently (Google & Samsung signed deal on patent sharing, etc)... it could make Samsung toe the line and i am actually hoping they open up some of their apps like S Note and S Planner -- sadly, i have to say Google's Calender function is lacking. no month-view widget. yucks...

but see how it goes... my note 2 is still good and hope to keep it for at least another 12 months or so...

AP set is just imported from other countries bro. It is still the same N7100. You can use any rom we use here!
I bet they don't mind you triggering knox haha
*
just worried about some modem or whatever setting that is not compatible. just worried about that. besides that, still trying to grasp this KNOX thingy... how will it trigger? some roms say its KNOX free, but dun really understand what it means... yet... haiz... pengsan.

as for roms, at first was keen on DN3. read about some issues (on XDA, can't recall). then read up phoenix but also saw some comments about camera -- camera function important for me.

My opinion for high end phones.
S4: Hell no, it's old
S5: Hell no, it's the almost the same thing as Note 3, just a smaller one and better camera
Note 2: Maybe because of the custom roms available
Note 3: No? It's crap. Wait for Note 4
Moto X: Maybe
Z: Hell no, it's old
Z1: It's small and when you unlock the bootloader you lose Bravia Engine
Z Ultra: It's big which is very good but when you unlock bootloader you lose Bravia Engine.
HTC One: It's Old
HTC One Max: I prefer smaller HTCs, how about you? and the fingerprint scanner on the back is pure stupid
Nexus 5:  thumbup.gif Root and bootloader unlock doesn't void warranty and the hardware specs is the same as Note 3!
*
LG is not in your list? they look sexy...

and then there's like the Asus spams as we... fonpad, padfone, fontab, tabfon or whateverfon & fonwhatever...?

played with the one that came with the wacom pen... quite smooth. but of course nothing installed at that time. it was demo unit.

Quick Q... any apps to change DNS of our 3G data connection? I found SetDNS apps, but its mentioned there that its not suitable for 4.3.

so, wondering what, if any, are you guys using? my device is rooted, so... root-required apps also no issue now. smile.gif

thanks.

Just bought a Note 2 for my wife.

Checked the web and the impression I get is, one needs to subscribe to Samsung in order to listen and download some songs.

Is there any web site for free songs? Song choice may be limited if its free but it is OK for me.

Thanks.
*
well, there are many free songs out there, but if you want those popular ones, usually have to pay.

otherwise, just copy your mp3 collection into the phone. that means you need to connect phone to PC/ laptop using the usb cable.

can't seem to figure out how to change pen colour when doing free-style 'drawing'/ note taking. seems like i could only select the few preset colours...

i was hoping for more colours like lime green, etc...

any handy note sifu here? smile.gif

joytest i think you recommended handy note. any idea on the above...

i've been toying with the idea of moving away from Note series with my next phone... however, still very attached to the note function like how one can use the pen to 'copy' out some section of the screen and then share it... *sigh*

not sure if i shared the story before...

a fren's note 2 suddenly died and he thought it was SDS. could not power up, even after plugging into mains...

then he decided to bring a a shop. shop checked and said its not SDS and can be fixed.

after a few weeks, it got fixed and cost him about rm700. no idea what they changed -- could have been the whole circuitboard or what not. well, at least its fixed now. no need to go buy new phone.

RM700  rclxub.gif maybe same or more than Samsung SC?? Why don't go straight to Samsung SC looking that the price not cheaper than SC...if RM300 then might consider fix at shop...
*
subsales.

plus, at first thought SDS and wanted trade-in, then the shop said maybe its not SDS and they can try to fix it. but i think that time, cannot confirm price yet.

If they didnt inform him/her and just replace , u can always reject the repair . It's not like RM70 , its RM700 . At least call and inform the owner if the owner wanna proceed on with the repairs . Not just repair .

i think they did... just my fren accepted.

recall reading somewhere that for charging... the USB will somehow check the connection type, 'negotiate', and then settle on the current that will pass thru...

one issue i have with powerbank charging is that usually, first few weeks, the cable that comes with the powerbank is still good... can charge almost 2A (as per powerbank). however, later on... the current will drop...

right now... i'm only getting 800mAh even though its on the powerbank's 2A port. different cables will give me different results. i noticed shorter cable is much better.

anyway, using the GCC, i noticed when i first plug in... the current reading is 1800mAh. then... after 2-3 seconds... it drops to about 700-800mAh.

i'm wondering... is there a way to force the charge to be at 1800mAh? anyone got any success getting about 1400mAh (or more) from a2A port on a powerbank? what model? what cable?

bro . how to root n7100 with 4.3 ,i did tried few method , but not working at all .and wth is knox

QUOTE(lamjunrong @ Mar 14 2014, 11:57 AM)
not sure what exactly is KNOX, guess is a security loop by samsung and detect if user has actually change the firmware and software and etc, you able to check you knox counter in Download Mode
*
KNOX is actually a 'security feature' meant for the enterprise users. it creates a 'secured container' which separates the phone 'memory' -- so you get personal vs work. the secured container... there will be some apps you can install, etc... depending on the security settings, you may/ may not copy files out from the secured container. this way, the enterprise/ company can protect the data in this container from being stolen.

however, for most consumer who is not using knox phone as company phone, this is quite useless and just gives us more headache.
