wanna flash kitkat and get note3 functions... but... after reading and reading... still not 100% confident yet.

still dunno what happens with:
* my phone which is still on stock rom but got knox (coz most instruction talk about 4.3 to 4.4.2)
* undecided on which rom... coz when go XDA and see latest post, sure got ppl complain this is broken, that is broken... etc... but ya, realistically, even on official rom, some functions are broken... silly samsung.

On 4.3 ? If u r , screen on will drop in GCC . Only with screen off will you get 1800 . Dont think there is a way to force it but 800mAh is a bit low , I get 1200mAh which is average for both Note 2 and 3 . Get a reliable powerbank eg Yaobao , Anker with a 2A port and u can get 1800mAh .
*
i'm using Anker. 800mAh or sometimes 700 is from the 2A port. before... i could easily hit 1200mAh as you said. that's why i'm suspecting cable. the original cables are no longer good (dun get good reading anymore), so i've resorted to using 3rd party cables, but have yet to find one good enuff to get me more than 1000mAh.

i'm on 4.3... thanks... din realise it drops... any reason for this? coz before that upgrade to 4.3 (now that you mentioned it, i think its about the same time my readings dropped), very sure screen on could still get me good readings.

No idea why they did it that way but after 4.3 , the reading isn't constant as b4 as in 1800mAh all the time . It will only stays at 1800mAh for a few second before it drops to 1200mah when the screen is on . If it's cable , suggest u get from brotan . So far , i have no issue with his cable , giving constant 1800mAh or 1200mAh . Oh ya , did u try swtiching to 1A port ? My 1st Anker , there was a mistake . I get 1800mAh for 1A port and lower on 2A port . They mixed up the ports . Try and see , maybe yours have the same issue .
*
ya, i can see the reading is 1800mAh... then a few seconds later, drop...

but ya, never tried using the 1A port before. i guess i'll try it out. and thanks... will check brotan. smile.gif

MY long charging problem is here again. Took me 8 hours to charge 60%.

I am not sure whether its the charger problem. Any idea where can I get a replacement charger or maybe just the cable? Already out of warranty.
*
QUOTE(Human Nature @ Mar 23 2014, 10:16 PM)
just installed. now averaging 500 mA. what should be the correct figure? thanks
*
this is actually quite common for s3 and note 2.

if you checked page 1, there's a post about a cheap and relatively good 3rd party charger... it was shared by fruitie. i've been using that charger... in fact, got myself like 4-5 and have them everywhere in the house and office.

gives out consistent 1800mAh.

original charger for N2 is rated 2A. theorectically, that means we get 2000mAh. give and take a bit... 1800mAh is quite reasonable.

i am not responsible for the damage of your phone and do read up post #6, #7 and #8 regarding rooting on this thread and have some basic knowledge especially in custom recovery. Always do a BACKUP. Have fun exploring and pm me if got any problem, hope i good enough on problem solving.  biggrin.gif
*
thanks for the guide.

my phone's already rooted.
my main concern as shared earlier is how will the flashing affect KNOX. most instructions on XDA usually start with KNOX free rom... but my phone's already got KNOX (official firmware).

also, still undecided on which KitKat rom. DN? Phoenix <-- not sure if Phoenix has got KitKat

hope the guide really help.  biggrin.gif

i am not really aware about the rom is either KNOX free or not as my warranty is over, so every flashing i have to bear with the risk.

TBH, i dont really prefer any TW based rom, such as DN3 or Phoenix. Just tried DN3 with 4.4 rom, not much difference other than the note 3 feature which i dont use at all... sweat.gif
Then i opt back for the AOSB rom, still like the fully customize-able interface and very very good ram and battery usage. On sleep mode, is roughly 0.3% to 0.4% battery drain/hr, which i have hibernated a lot of apps. But you have no option to use S-Note or any S-pen related apps and camera is default Nexus 5 camera. Cheers!  smile.gif
*
for me... if using note without pen function... then better to just get another phablet instead. but this is my personal view only.

i'm still into note because of the pen function. the copy and paste from basically any screen and then share the cropped picture is very useful. plus a few other little things. so, that's why i wanna stick to roms with pen function.

yeah from some from overseas site too but i prefer to get local ones...will try to search in garage, the one recommended at 1st page is out of stock
*
2-3 pages back, someone suggested BROTAN for cables.

as for the 3rd party charger... ya, last i checked (last week), still no stocks. i'm also waiting to buy another 2 more. biggrin.gif

Been sometime since i posted here. smile.gif Still going strong this thread.

BTW, i just flashed DN3 RC. Did anyone encounter superSU to stop working?
*
oh goodie...

can you let me know... on average use... any issues? well, actually, need someone to help me check, if can... the things i normally do:
* watch video
* use pen to crop and share stuff...
* screen capture with pen

hope u dun mind me asking you coz... i sometimes see the latest posts on the XDA thread and i see ppl reporting this is broken, that is broken... but seriously, its kinda stable, right? RC or not... coz i think so far, the stable version is still 4.3...

1 - Install lastest superuser
2 - Install Sdcardfix since it's kitkat , u cant write on external sd

Those 2 are the main problem of RC which havent been fix
*
wow... that's quite a bad bug, no? i guess if using the RC, need to install the fix... hmmm... i guess i'll wait till it gets official stable release -- referring to DN3 Rom.

QUOTE(Noobi3 @ Mar 25 2014, 02:04 PM)
No 2 is not a bug , even official ROMS have this problem . A simply explaination ,

Prior to Android 4.4 KitKat, applications — provided they had permission to access the SD card — could read and write to any area on removable storage, including the system folders like DCIM, Alarms, etc. That has all changed, and now third-party applications — as in ones you download from Google Play or elsewhere — can only write to files and folders that they have created or have taken ownership of.

Google made things neater and more secure. Some apps have worked with that, many others are just broken.

This keeps things "tidy." Apps aren't dumping files everywhere on the card — something we've all encountered — and instead have one central location to put all their files. There also are some serious security concerns that were addressed by not letting an app write files just anywhere.

When i said it havent been fix , what i meant was some developers add the fix into their roms but not for DN3 currently .
*
ah, ok... got it. that makes sense... and ya, was kinda annoyed seeing how folders, etc sprout out suddenly, no thanks to developers simply creating them all over the place.

so, just to clarify... when you say can't write to exrternal SD card, does it really mean cannot copy and paste files (from Windows PC or even File Manager on the phone) or just the apps can't simply install and create anywehere/ everywhere?

some quick Q and sharing...

* latest version of DN3 (Ditto Rom). good? no good? any major known issues? planning to go for a 4.4.2 ROM. this one is on my list. biggrin.gif

* anyone found another supplier for good reliable and cheap charger? last time fruitie intro one, but the seller can't get any more stocks.

* something i've been facing with my Note 2 lately... my media scanner don't work properly. i get 'broken' icon on some new media. when i click to run these media (could be photo or video), sometimes, it'll tell me the media cannot be played. end up have to delete and copy again. or sometimes, need to clear Gallery cache. also, around the same time the phone became this unstable, i also noticed my ringtones went haywire, etc...
does this mean time to factory wipe? so sianz... but that's why i'm asking about ROM. i wanna go for something 'stable' for daily use and have note 3 functions. i don't really like to flash too often.

You can try DN3 v5+ Lite .. It can do video call.

If you feel lockscreen lag,  replace the keyguard.apk  with V5 from the v5 rom .zip and give 644 permission.
I suggest you try out DN3 v5+ Lite version  In Aroma installation, can choose N3 application only if you dont want S5.
*
sorry... this LITE = kernel?

anyway, Arzwart... you have compared both Phoenix and DN3. you feel DN3 is better?

this is how the error looks like on my phone
Attached Image Attached Image

for the second image (right), the first 'thumbnail' is broken.

i wonder if this is the KitKat vs SD card thingy. i'm running stock rom. 4.4.2.

i'm still testing and see what is causing it. so far, i'm suspecting:
* files copied directly from PC to SDcard can cause this
* files copied from PC to phone storage seems to be OK so far

will monitor closely and feedback later. but anyone else got this issue?
