An article about waste

You Don’t Need The Latest Thing. No, Seriously.
http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/why-the-lates...ot-be-worth-it/

excerpt:
...Don’t Buy; Remake

I don’t need to tell you “geek culture”, whatever that means, has been hijacked – the existence of The Big Bang Theory proves that well enough. At some point, it was decided that being a geek meant buying a crap ton of gadgets. This happens anytime advertisers decide to make something “cool” in order to sell things, and it’s happening now.

But you don’t have to buy into it. Being a geek isn’t about buying technology – it’s about making technology work for you.

To me, installing a custom ROM on your old Android phone is way geekier than upgrading. Learning how to speed up your PC is geekier than simply replacing it. Bringing an old computer to life with Ubuntu is geekier than buying a new one. Setting up XBMC as your media center on an unused machine is geekier than buying an Apple TV.

You get the idea. You can do amazing things with technology otherwise seen as obsolete. You’ll not only feel like you have a new gadget to play with – you’ll also feel like you accomplished something.

My sister's Note II is giving her so much of issue and I tried to factory reset it back to stock ROM. However, after factory reset it, it still went back to her custom ROM.

Now her phone is facing random shutdowns, hangs and reboots.
How can I ensure she can factory reset it to stock ROM? Else, I will need to download from SamMobile and use MOP to do it?

Don't mind if it still retains root or not, just need to get the phone works like normal.

Thanks.
*
Possible sds?

Factory reset will reset u to your current rom defaults, whether stock or custom. You need to odin flash to stock. Bear in mind if she is using the new bootloader you need to be careful.

I have not been flashing much either on my n2 or n3. Maybe eiraku can help.

1st case delay in wakeup from standby mode.
2nd case device easily get heated up n real hot some more.

any comment about this?

i just did my factory reset for the first case

i did not on wifi, bluetooth, gps, data or game. i just use the camera apps for 1 to 2 pic with an interval of 5 mins each snap for the 2nd case.

any idea whats wrong with my phonee?
i sense problem outcoming
*
Getting hot for no reason usually means either you have bad apps or there is some hardware fault.

If it no longer gets hot after a factory reset and selective restore of key apps only, then one of your apps is causing it.

If it recurs after your selective restore, then you could have a hardware fault coming.

meanwhile, im encountering a slight delay of wakeup from standby mode.
wondering whether is it the display screen problem or.....zzz hmm.gif
*
This slight delay is normally caused by the S-Voice assistant waiting 1s to hear you say "Hi Galaxy".

You can turn it off in settings.

Need help. Tried looking at the opening posts but can't seem to find the answer.

Wife just dropped her Note 2 and it busted her screen as well as the mid frame (the silver thing that goes arounf the phone).

Where can I get the phone repaired? Samsung authorized service center?

Thanks guys
*
Forumer donnos. Darn where did that post go.... He will change the glass and not the whole screen assembly. This will work only if the screen is operable. The side bezel is approx 170 from Samsung.

Otherwise the entire screen assembly is approx 650.

I thought you had a huge selection of cases? Was she using any protection? tongue.gif

This is out of the topic but do you guys think S5 is stupiak?
We can literally buy an older phone like Note 2 and S3 to flash it with S5/DN3 rom. We still can get a pretty good performance out of the phone after we slightly overclock it.
Good performance ROM for
S3: MIUI v5, S4Revolution
N2: AOSP variant, DN3 RC2
*
Well, for one, the newer phones all have full HD displays. This is worth the price of the upgrade IMHO, but since it started with the S4, getting an S4 or S4 Active might make sense. S4 is also much cheaper now from places like DirectD or SatuGadget.

Comparing the screens of N2 and N3, N3 really wins hands down, but otherwise N2 is still a fully serviceable device. It can handle remote desktop to my corporate support applications and works nicely as a hotspot.

Best of all, HandyNote sync to both my devices let me scribble lots of useful notes without being tied down to S-Note.

Anyway, whatever features that are software based will end up getting ported, so yes, in some ways, newer phones are rather gimmicky.

You could try plugging it to a computer and use PTP mode to transfer your photos.

BTW for those anxious for KitKat....

Please ensure your apps also have Kitkat compatible updates. Note 3 thread is full of issues when KK first appeared.

Most notably you will lose app access to the external sd card.

OTA updates work on a first come first served basis.

You can download from Sammobile. Closest firmware would be India and Singapore.

IMHO, anything that doesn't cover the entire bezel does not deserve to be called a case.

This one has top and bottom bezels exposed. Get a good TPU case.
