Is the living expenses at Bath, Bristol, Edinburgh, and Surrey are HIGH too? Thanks.
*
what is HIGH to you? give us a budget. COL is generally lower in the northeast of England and Wales, especially northern Wales. The rest of the country is fairly comparable in terms of COL barring London.

Compared to Sheffield, for example...

sheffield is a cheaper place to live than bath, surrey, bristol and edinburgh.

go to the website of the university of interest and email the admission tutor/office. ask them whatever you want.

yes i felt that in bristol while on my bed too. i was thinking someone next door fell from the bed, but not a single sound. but it didnt last more than 5 seconds, and it was just some slight movement, not the magnitude of 5 at all I guess.

i was wondering something regarding twinning and 3+0 programs. are 1+2, 2+1 degrees as recognised as taking the whole course overseas? likewise, are 3+0 degrees as recognised too? or does it depend entirely on the institution itself and the agreement it made with the overseas uni. currently pondering upon taking a 3+0 or 2+1. parents cant afford to fund me 2 years abroad (without taking a loan). 1 year can la. and most of the uk universities i asked offer me 2nd year displacements so it takes 2 years.

thanks in advance.
*
i didnt do twinning but i think your degree should be the same as the one awarded to normal students.

just wondering, which unis did you apply to?

i have already done my diploma in mechanical engineering. doing a 1+2 would take more time than going straight to the uk uni. asked around during the uk edu fair last weekend, and most of them would consider me entering 2nd or final year entry. but parents cant exactly afford to send me over for 2 years (1 year is still ok, but dad is retiring in 2 years, so the cash flow would end). and i dont want to take out a loan or go through the uncertainties of getting a scholarship. would have preferred to do automotive engineering, but would most likely gain 2nd year entry. but more interested in a sandwich course, and that would take an extra year = more cash spent.
*
so the ideal case for you if a university that allows you to go to the UK only for the final year?

to be quite honest with you, university of sunderland is not very well respected in the UK. so if getting a degree from them means spending more money than going to, say, uni of nottingham in malaysia or monash, i would seriously advice you to reconsider.

Thanks for the enlightenment youngkies. However, is it possible to secure a decent job (i.e. a corporate company) as a legal adviser since employment in a top law firm is so hard in the UK? Or, generally speaking, is it even possible for me as a King's graduate to secure a decent job upon graduation?
*
KCL law is very highly sought after in the UK, on condition of getting a good degree (1st or 2.1). Bristol and Warwick would be cheaper, and LLB from them would also serve you well.

Can I fill-in an temporary address (e.g. friend's accomodation address) first because I don't know how to book the accomodation from M'sia?
*
just give them your university address and explain to them in the form that you will not be able to know your hall accommodation until you get to the university.

you dont know or you cant? its best you email the university early and ask them about getting accommodation. its saves a lot of hassle when it comes to visa application when you have a definite place of stay.

yes, i didn't include accommodation cost. well.. if i m not mistaken, he was asking whether 500k is enough for him to survive in KCL right???500k ringgit is about 75k pounds..

i guess the fees for law in kcl next year will be around 12k next year.. and in three years time after taking into account inflation etc, 40k will need to be set aside for fees alone. And accommodation fees of 5k per year,  i guess u still have roughly 20k pounds left for your cost of living of 3 years etc..

I think it is enough......

No, my friend is definitely not leading a non-student lifestyle. In fact, i believe that she is living like a normal student. The only reason that i can think of, why she can survive with 250 pounds a month is that, she doesn't eat out alot and she doesnt do much shopping compare to her other friends..

there is not really any supersaver stuffs in london.. there is no "tesco value" food in London Tescos. Tesco value food is the cheapest range of food available in Tesco stores.. Correct me if I am wrong, but so far as I have visited a few tesco stores there, i dont see any of "tesco value" food, in contrast to tesco stores that are located outside of london.. So there is no supersaver food that she can buy..

And she has a phone, she travels around during weekends, and all of her daily meals include meats i.e. chicken fish etc..

And to be honest, in my personal opinion, the main purpose of someone coming all the way from malaysia to uk is to study and not studying+shopping+having TOO MUCH fun. Well, of course u can shop around/travel around, get new experience in a foreign land and defintely have fun with your friends too, but i personally think that there has to be a limit to it... and it all depends on the individual definition of that "limit".

cheers!

p/s: all my figures/calculation excludes accommodation cost.
*
£250/month excluding rent/accom is plenty of money for a student.

I will email and try to book an accomodation. Usually how do you guy pay the deposit of the booking from M'sia? Thanks.
*
usually the preferred method is by using a credit card (give them your card details and they'll sort it out), or you can also use money order. ask them about the accepted method of payment in your email just to be on the safe side.

You should be fine. KCL's very highly regarded. Since you're talking about firms I suppose you want to be a solicitor instead of a barrister. I think if you get good grades in your LLB (preferably a 2:1) you'll probably be able to work for a pretty good firm. I don't think getting into the LPC is that difficult either cos all of my friends who applied got in.
*
she sounds like she wants to save some money, i'd say bristol LLB will be just as good, and cheaper given its not in the centre of london.

Okay guys i'm planning to go to Bellerbys and take Foundation in Media after SPM. Now, Bellerbys have 4 campuses which are located in Oxford, Brighton, London & Cambridge.

And my questions are:

1.which has a better environment out of those 4(Oxford, Brighton, London & Cambridge)?

2.When you take FOundation, there are myths saying that studying in the UK means studying 24/7 with no partying allowed. Is it true? If going to college in the UK means no partying fun, then how the hell do you survive in student cities like Oxford, or in partying cities like Brighton?

3.Would Melbourne shufflers be tolerated? After all, a shuffler like me would love to export the shuffle to the UK. What do u think?
*
1. i'd prolly pick cambridge out of the bunch, as london is really expensive, brighton is expensive as well, but a really fun place, and i dont like oxford.

2. if you manage your time wisely, you'd have no problems. you're doing media, its easy stuff, so you expect lots of partying.

3. no. dont embarass your fellow malaysians please. or tell them you're singaporean if you insist on shuffling.

agreed to Warwick..its chicks heavens LOL..coventry is the main city there but becareful back in the 90's its voted one of the worse crime city in EUROPE. But then again Warwick itself is a fine uni and its near to london as well..

Surrey & Staffordshire(Stoke on Trent & Stafford town) ok too..if ure at stoke on trent then it could be cheaper

Aston - im not sure. Strathclyde - small city..u be dead sweat.gif

Sunderland - u sure? its like so up north and much easier to go to Glasgow rather than going down to london..but its a cheaper city..

Did apply to sheffield university? I love sheffield!  brows.gif  thumbup.gif

Aston is in the middle of Birmingham and Strathclyde is in Glasgow, both very big cities. He wouldn't be bored at either.

sheffield got me laa. that's why its good one!
actually, sheffield is the 8th biggest english city, and probably further back if u include the entire UK. it's not big, but it is quite close to other cities since it's quite in the centre of midlands. and it takes 2 hours 30 minutes by train to london actually.

it's not too big that it's uncontrollable, and not too small that it's boring. the crime rate is pretty low, most people are friendly with diverse ethnicity. heck, sheffield has one of the biggest malaysian population apart from manchester, liverpool and dublin. and yes, it is still considerably cheaper to live in compared to most cities in the UK.
*
yea Sheffield is like kampung melayu lol.

hmm, think i f***ed up my ucas application choices.. could have chosen better...

anyways, currently considering australia as well, just curious, in the eyes of you uk fellas, how would you rate australia as a place to do engineering? tongue.gif
in terms of future prospects and quality of education(engineering to be exact), based on hearsay or personal experience, anything la, but yeah, relative to uk.

thanks tongue.gif

australia's fine. depending on the university. the top ones are good.

BT can be a right bloody pain. TMNET, despite their slower speed, can be rather consistent with their connection.
