guys.. I find it that I sometimes can't activate 2 buttons simultaneously on the AW keyboard.
Especially when playing FIFA 14 sweat.gif
Is this because of the keyboard physical build circuitry or some settings can be changed?

well as long as it works smile.gif

i don't monitor the inbound/outbound data transfers.

Still skeptical about Windows OS.
2nd day of usage, I already had malware hiding somewhere inside. Not sure what actually happened.
Suspected due to installation of the winrar. sweat.gif

oh no wonder. i don't monitor inbound/outbound data transfers because of several reasons. lazy being one.

i have a habit of getting files off internet:
1. download everything into a temporary folder;
2. scan the folder before use. (clamav with microsoft security essentials only)

on top of that, i only get files from known trusted sources.

so far so good. safe since wxp era biggrin.gif
*
Guess I have to change some habits since using Windows OS again smile.gif
Anyway, Win 8.1 definitely works better than Win 8 laugh.gif

well.. mac os or linux or bsd are potentially vulnerable if you do not know what to do with it. (for instance, this is a story in linux. my friend once downloaded a script and without reading through it he ran the script at once, as root. the damage would be significant, including losing his job, if he did not have a habit of doing backup daily haha!)

yeah i know w8.1 is better smile.gif however people seem to like to complain more than to adapt. so, whatever smile.gif
*
The nature of human being is "complain" laugh.gif
Anyway, loving so much my new AW14.
But then coming from a 5 years old first edition of Macbook Pro sweat.gif It wasn't named Macbook Pro to begin with at the earlier launch sweat.gif

p/s: It's still serving me well on OSX Maverick laugh.gif

When it works, AW is great. When it's not, you'll be ready to throw it across the room. Even that is hard because it's heavy  thumbup.gif
*
yeah.. it's a bomb even for a 14-inch. laugh.gif

QUOTE(horns @ Jan 19 2014, 01:43 PM)
right smile.gif and if only they realize that walk is much more practical and beneficial to them than talk.

nice lol! aw produces good machines.

mac is fine. many people love it. it's just that i like to get my hands dirty and enjoy self maintenance and upgrades.
*
I used to like that when I was messing around with the desktop back 15 years ago.
Every since I switched to laptop/notebook, possibility were lesser due to limitation of the devices and also difficulties of obtaining upgrade parts.
Then went over to Mac and that's the end tongue.gif
Now back to PC, first in my mind was SSD laugh.gif

Lol! Its my hobby so yeah..

I am going back to desktop rig when the time is right.

By the way, the it fair in mid valley is a disappointment to me. Heading to lyp :/
*
Went to the last PC Fair last year after 3 years of break and the result is still disappointing. Basically it's more like a pasar malam for Powerbank. Buy 1 free 5 kinda thing.

QUOTE(dannygeni @ Jan 19 2014, 04:49 PM)
Ssd is a bit high on price but the loading speed will feel it once install.

That's the next plan after I re-collect some dough.. laugh.gif

sure; never looked back to hdd as boot drive after that.
recently fairs like this one really turn people off. what? now all they have are powerbanks? :/
it's best to ask for quotes from the dell agents or sellers that offer the service.
*
I think online resellers really takes a toll out of these trade fairs guys..

I just got the BF4 and when I played with Ultra graphic settings. It's unplayable. Lags like crap.
Running on 765 2GB, win 8.1
Anybody has such problem?

minimize the resolution to 1366x768, reduce anti-aliasing and graphic settings to High is enough.
*
seems like 765 ain't good enough for ultra sweat.gif
I max out everything.. Full HD and Ultra and it's sweat.gif

for most of the reasons, any games i play will not maxed out its settings but instead, i will put it to high, regardless how strong the GPU is. high setting is enough for me more than ultra, as ultra (for some games) is just an essential setting which will crave more performance.
*
I changed to your recommended settings and indeed is fine..
still some lag though. maybe I should turn of anti-aliasing

turn off V-Sync as well. this is another aspect of performance hog.
*
QUOTE(horns @ Jan 21 2014, 10:48 PM)
man.. don't play with ultra settings for that card. raymondtong94's right, turning off vsync and antialias, then set the resolution to lower than fhd help.

even with 680m/780m i only play with high settings, with vsync and antialias off. only when i go into test range i set everything ultra (just to enjoy the view and scenery. in multiplayer sessions, with those settings it means suicide :/)

edit: well.. even if we have very strong cards, our internet speed still make us feeders lol! just now i shot the guy in the head, but it ended up i die. speechless.
*
V-sync was never on in most of my games anyway..
765 ain't that powerful after all laugh.gif

Ic ic.... How about the Alienware programs like CC? Any problems with Windows 8.1?
*
have no problem so far with both on Win 8.1 but I haven't been using 8.1 for a long time. Less than a week for sure laugh.gif

By the way, would there be a new driver updates for the GPU since it's Win 8.1 ?

Played Counter Strike: Global Offensive on default settings, did not tweak anything from the menu, and it stutters. Any recommended settings for awesome gameplay experience?
*
If I'm not mistaken I'm running on high settings on the CS:GO and no issues.
What's your spec?

QUOTE(phantom_zero @ Jan 22 2014, 02:26 PM)
hello guys, i need an opinion about the warranty, my alienware warranty will expire on 24/1 this friday, do i need to extend the warranty now? i m planning to sell this laptop after my degree finish on late july and buy the new y50, so issit worth to extend my warranty? my alienware spec is like on my signiture, what is the fair price i can potentially get? thanks guys
*
You have to extend the warranty before it expires, otherwise you're no longer eligible.
If you're intending to sell it off, why bother with the warranty. It ain't cheap anyway.

there were updates released at dell support site, including the gpu drivers.
you can choose to not extend it if you're fine to sell it at a reasonably lower price, and if the machine is in good shape. i suggest you look at garage sales section for reference. (actually, having warranty might or might not be useful in boosting price also.)

hmm.gif let me check out the update drivers later tonight biggrin.gif

thanks horns
found out that it's best to set the GPU to always use the NVIDIA rather than set it to auto.
Somehow the games does not know which is the correct graphic cards to use.
I set it in the NVIDIA settings to always run on the NVIDIA GPU. Saw significant improvements on FIFA 14 and also significant fan speed increase sweat.gif

Yeah, I've checked the site that they've added Windows 8.1 drivers already. I might be able to update to Windows 8.1 without any problems (I hope).
