Oh sorry. You must get one. Sweet spot is 250gb range.
*
How much is the 250GB now? Any specific models/brands I should look for?

in general you can get any decent ssd in the local market (samsung, plextor, intel, corsair, sandisk, etc.). they will work fine.

if you have some spares, and you wanna get it like now, i suggest you invest in a 256gb or more of samsung 840 pro. although 840 evo should be fine but i personally haven't tested it. based on the feedback from various sources, it's a good choice. (by the way, the RAPID mode feature found in 840 evo has been added to 840 pro just recently)

if you can wait, new releases should be coming out after june this year. there is plextor m6. (plextor m5pro xtreme is one of my personal favorites beside samsung and intel. don't get older drives although they are cheaper; tend to have issues)
*
Thanks for the tip.
I think I'll wait as I am not too much of a gamer anyway laugh.gif

i am not quite a gamer also. i go into bf4 to get killed most of the times biggrin.gif

to me the main purpose of having a ssd is to load OS and apps fast (e.g. click and start typing in word; running vm's).
*
That's what I'm looking for laugh.gif
Why running on vm?

BF4 is expensive $60 sweat.gif

yeap smile.gif by putting in a ssd and setting up a small ramdisk made my dad's i3 hp laptop became much more responsive (MYR 300.00 very well spent. never received any complaints after that)

vm's are good to test stuff without formatting when tahi happen. it's boring work thing.

i got bf4 when it's on sale. save a bit lol! i just put all the settings ultra and go in shoot sand, shoot airplanes, drive tanks, and fly helicopters.
*
ohh.. now I understand.
Wanted to test the power of the 765 NVIDIA laugh.gif
so far tested only with DOTA2, Diablo III and War Thunder.

ah.. yes, if possible just max it out at the point of purchase. while it's true that 8gb will work fine, but the system will get more boosts when you have a small ram disk for cache and temp folders. (with ssd's, ram disk is a good thing to have because you can help reduce a lot of writes off ssd)

recent ramdisk technology is really simple to use. good stuff like softperfect ramdisk is free for personal use.
*
hmm.gif gonna do some read up on the softperfect thing.
Thanks for recommedation.
The damn thing is that the current configuration is 4 + 4 GB.
Have to buy both 8GB in order to upgrade.

By the way, if I upgrade by myself, it would not void the warranty right?

hm.. aw14 has 2 slots only right? from the manual it looks that way. you need to swap it with 2x8gb. looking at the price of ram today, i suggest you go for ssd first that gives you much better performance boost.

by the way no one is attending the it fair at mid valley?
*
yeah, it has 2 slots.
I confirmed it when I was surveying the device earlier before purchase.
Anyway, I don't expect my usage to max up the RAM of 8GB anyway. Therefore, didn't opt for the upgrade to 16GB.
SSD would be my next target smile.gif

yeah.. it's more fun upgrading it slowly. you can see the performance maintained with time.

if it's not about work purposes, i like to have smaller laptops/ultrabooks, too :/
*
You mentioned earlier that I could swap the DVD ROM for the HDD correct?
I would like to have the entire OS running on SSD and using the current 750GB HDD as the storage.
Do not want to always hook up my external 1TB HDD sweat.gif

correct. http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=387

search silverstone at garage sales section, i think you can find some sellers carrying this one. alternatively, viewnet has that. (i got mine from there)
*
hmm.gif doesn't seem like the removing part would be easy with the new AW14 design.
Thanks again for the tip.

uh? really? looking at the manual, it's just flip the laptop, take off the back cover, tara!

by the way the dell manual is good. check it. ftp://ftp.dell.com/Manuals/all-products/e...anual_en-us.pdf
*
sorry, never actually read any manuals laugh.gif
Warranty issue is the concern. Let's see when I open up.

Do you use other peripherals like a keyboard and an external mouse or use the default one that came with the set?
*
of cos you can't play with the touchpad. I have only external mouse.
Using the keyboard of the AW14.

Anyway, the Keyboard on AW14 is lousy. Can't register 2 buttons presses simultaneously. shakehead.gif

Tried updating the Windows 8.1 from the store and this is what I get
CODE
"You need to use account with Administrator privileges to install Windows 8.1, try logging in with the user account of an administrator of this PC and trying the update again."

I've already an administrator account anyway.
Anybody can help?

Thanks.

Found the solution.

1) Changed my HOTMAIL account to a local account
2) Logged off
3) Tried the store again and even though I was still listed as an admin it still failed
4) Switched my account back to HOTMAIL connected account
5) Logged off and then back on
6) Windows 8.1 download worked

maybe it's because i always use local account without association to any email, i had no issue to get the files previously.

nice find biggrin.gif

After updating to Win 8.1, everything seems bigger or rather "zoomed" even though the resolution is still 1920 x 1080.
Do you see the same? rclxub.gif

Noticed this on Desktop and also on Firefox. Haven't tested the rest though.

*update*
Got it fixed. The display size (under Settings -> Personalization -> Display) was changed to large size. Changing back to Medium brings it back like before.
But then the "menu" bar on the right side is huge! sweat.gif
