This here I totally agree. I am thankful that I got all my job offers through this channel and have to admit the pay has been satisfying. Get your CVs to reputable agents and one day you might get a call with an opportunity that is difficult to turn down.
I will not share my current  salary here as I don't want to brag, but I am very much thankful for what I am getting.
I am still at Engineer level, though. Not yet senior, mind you. But I earn enough to sustain my family (but we don't live lavishly, though. We save for our future).

i will follow your advice if you reveal your salary + allowance. tongue.gif

even if i don't reveal my salary, there is nothing to lose in submitting your CV to good agents. once they have you in their database, they will contact you when a suitable posting appear, even though you don't apply or you don't even know it's there. if they don't contact you right away, it is usually because there is no position... this is how good agents work, they don't simply shoot CVs here and there hoping one will succeed.
my first experience with agents was in 2008; though I submitted my CV in 2006, I only got contacted by their UK office in 2008. the next few jobs i have, i also didn't actively apply but was contacted by the agents for a suitable posting.

Hopping after 1 month is not a very good idea. IMHO.

As a fresh grad, it is the perfect time to find "what you like doing" instead of the salary.

Money should not be ur priority in ur early years of careee development. Potential to earn big money 5 or 10 years down the road is.

So, ur primary focus should be whether there are ample room to grow in ur current role... and meanwhile try to study more, not just technical, but more importantly soft skills and build up a tough resilient mindset.

Almost near to zero for grow after I join. A step higher = manager. The manager is there for about 10 years. So if want to grow, need to do Job hop like some seniors do.

Increase in job grading is not actually "growth". It is just the eventual outcome of u outgrowing urself consistently.

The true meaning of growth is whether u can gain more experience, whether u're given chance to involve in more important projects, whether ur roles are expanding, whether u're being entrusted to do things on your own, whether ur suggestions are being listened and considered seriously, whether u've a supervisor who are willing to pass down his/her knowledge etc etc... In short, whether u can gain valuable skills to polish ur CV and make other employers willing to offer big money for your services.

If you are being blessed with most of the things above, chances are your supervisor will fight for ur promotion and increment and replacing a good staff is more costly than retaining... Even if you don't get the pay increase, you will have a great profile and other companies will surely want to poach you over especially if you are underpaid (provided u know how to present ur value effectively in ur CV and interviews).

Especially nowadays, there are many job hoppers, who want to change jobs. I think it's actually not a bad thing, even thoughmany people have the opposite opinion. You get to gain valuable experience from different companies and somtimes you realize a little too late that some companies do not offer career progression, which I believe is essential if you do not want to be bored in your job and are a versatile person.

Hi all,

I have a couple interviews lined up this week and was wondering what the standard practice is on this...

For the interview, is it normal for employers to request I bring along a current copy of my paycheck? Should i comply? What are the pros and cons?

Appreciate your help.

Some HR want to see, when jump from another to verify the paid you mention in your CV.

Scare ppl not telling the truth and also give rough estimation the market value.

I agree with this, and technically I don't understand why future employer needs your payslip. Your next job compensation should base on the evaluations and appreciation from the employer, not %mark up from the current pay.

However, %mark up is still the common way for individual to indicate their expected salary

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. Only after posting here did I stumble upon entire threads dedicated to this topic. So I have read quite extensively our fellow members comments and sort of summarised the following:

1. Employers want to verify your present pay range/employment status. Reasons: Check candidate's honesty (if indeed this is the method in doing so, this is a really silly reason), check competitors' package, check market rates, etc.

2. Employers want to avoid paying too exorbitantly for a person who may not be standout material for a mid- or entry-level position of which the talent pool may be bigger where it is relatively easier to dispense and replace candidates.

3. Employers stand to have the upper hand in offer negotiation since they have control over one important element which for most people can be the most important.

4. Candidates can reject such requests (reason: P&C, is PDPA applicable?) or choose to withdraw from the job application, though less educated/qualified/experienced candidates usually unquestioningly comply.

5. Candidates may go ahead and give out their payslips if they feel that a % markup is what they are gunning for (esp for similar level jobs)

6. I will bring along my pay slip and try to enquire the purpose of submission. I don't suppose any silly reason is going to be valid and I may need to submit this to them reluctantly or risk dropping out of contention altogether. As I am aiming for a career change (from academic to industry), any % markup on my existing salary will be welcome. Indeed, I am actually worried whether I will get offered the chance even with a pay cut. This is not to say that my present salary is very high, but I'd be the first to admit that I have little industrial experience in the job I am interested in. Getting invited to an interview, I suppose, is a mini victory.

Going for two interviews this Friday, hope the stars will be on my side.
