larger megapixel doesn't mean better picture
you should've read enough reviews before getting the phone, it's a well known fact that in auto mode Z1 only take 8MP pics. Z1 work in a similar way with nokia lumias in which they use a high megapixel camera to capture a picture then compress it to lower megapixel resulting in sharper images.
but anyway if u really want to get a camera phone, the best choice now would be lumia 1020 / 1520

Overall, the software update did give the Xperia Z1 some necessary boost as it didn’t get run over by the Galaxy Note 3 in all scenarios. In the outdoor shots, the Xperia Z1 is now a decent performer but in low light conditions, it leaves a lot to be desired.
I'm sure with more update Z1 will perform better.
yeah... i found out alot of people still don't quite understand this concept of compressing higher pixels pic to get sharper image. but of course it's more effective and noticeable in 1020 because it is compressed from 30/40MP down to 5MP. that's one of the reason the picture is so sharp. whereas for Z1, it's only from 20MP down to 8MP.
and from what i notice, never use superior auto. u'll get better pic using manual mode, but set everything to auto.
and yeah, i still do agree the software is killing the camera on the z1. still alot potential to be uncover with the right software.
