==> You'll Never Walk Alone <==

http://www.unbase.com/n/5853623009

When you walk through a storm hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark.
At the end of a storm there's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark.
Walk on through the wind,
Walk on through the rain,
For your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never walk alone.

Walk on, walk on with hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone,
You'll never walk alone.

I was chuffed when Robbie re-signed for us. Some bloke wrote this in honour of his return.
Yeah he was pretty average. Probably my 2nd best feel good factor after the CL final when Robbie re-signed for us in 06'. Absolutely ecstatic given the nature of his departure earlier, still cant forgive the board for that.

Mike you're TS now so don't let everyone tell you what to do. You gotta be like a DJ who receives requests from everyone asking for all sorts of tunes.

I'd like to suggest a video in honour of Hillsborough. I reckon this clip is special because it is one of our more well known songs, and is sung at every game. Also this one pays homage to Hillsborough at the end and it involves celebrities and former greats including King Kenny.

Might want to give some sort of tribute to the 96 who went to a football game and never came home. Gone but not forgotten.

A couple of Shankly quotes might be nice as well.

My 2 cents mate. You make the call. Good luck on being TS.

Given the current form of both players, I would bet on Suarez to reach the 10goals mark first, and grab the award again, under the nose of Aguero and Sturridge. tongue.gif

That is a thought that has been running in my mind lately. I didn't really see much link up play between SAS in the last 2 games. It's mostly individual. Can see the Sturridge was alittle annoyed from the Fullham game due to not scoring, and when getting subbed off, didn't acknowledge Suarez.

Oh well, just hope that this phase will pass and they'll work in tandem again. sweat.gif

tbh, a team cant have 2 strong strikers on the same field at the same time. It works for the first few times, then, everyone will start performance as individual. This is why a lot of team has changed formation to 1 striker only.

That's one way to look at it, but the other thing is, if you have two strong strikers up front, the opponent's defenders have got a lot on their hands as both will give double the trouble. I just hope this two will be strike partners for a long time.

I think BR do noticed the slight disappointment and unhappiness of Sturridge in the Fulham game, like a lot of us did. That just show how much expectation he's putting on himself.

The fact that Suarez is given so much room to roam around the penalty area is due to the presence of Sturridge operating shoulder to shoulder with Fulham's defensive line.

Suarez might have all the spot lights now but I'm sure there are times Sturridge could pose a lot more threat when we're playing away or opponents playing a high defensive line.

i tend to think this is the way...
no point they be the main striker and not winning anything
there will be times when struridge will shine and suarez help out and vice versa
and let's hope that this combi will lead other team to start using 2 strikers again tongue.gif tongue.gif

The problem with playing one striker is that an overreliance develops on that striker. That is because no like for like replacement on the bench. No top striker will be content sitting on the bench and playing second fiddle to another top striker.

FREEDOM!!!!!! thumbup.gif

Now I can be my nasty self tongue.gif

Kidding. Still need to maintain a good christian practice.

On the game against Everton, Robbie has learned a harsh lesson trying to play football with us last season. His team got bang with 3 goals with nothing to show. I dont think he will play it nice this time.

Our main worry, is not gonna be something new that everyone didnt know already, Set Piece!

We need to knock their resilience down with quick goals, and we need Agger to play. The boys will be full charged up for this game.

Okay, in the past we have international Hoodoo. After the break, bad performance. But then new TS now, I suspect he will bring an end to the hoodoo and give us good luck this weekend. biggrin.gif (I will continue casting the spell.)

If reports were to believed, we had clinched the signing of Will Hughes, the 'great potential' Brit lad....must have left some of the cynics bewildered..not again, another overrated-overhype british talent...but having seen him play only in youtube, i wonder what's the hoohaaa all about..okay he did possess quick feet, and looks like an albino...but with Mnure and Arse chasing this fella, he should at least have some quality in him...and another report link us with Jeremy Menez...i player i would say yes probably 2-3 seasons ago, but i have my reservation now...

With Everton looming, I would say its a good time to bring them on...what not with uncertainty regarding Baines, and Lukaku lack of form, and Barry being a spent force in midfield, i foresee we should overrun their middle...their potential threats are probably Mirallas or Pienaar, but we had comfortably dealt with them before and i expect the current players to contain them without much fuss...add to the fact that Distin is there for Suarez to toy with, i think we should dispatch Everton. Having said this, I dont think we can walk all over them or play them off the park, but having witness their game against Palace which end with a scoreless draw, we ought to stamp our authority in this match...

Liverpool beat Arsenal and Man Utd to sign £12m Will Hughes

LIVERPOOL manager Brendan Rodgers is poised to clinch the signing of £12million Derby County wonderkid Will Hughes - leaving Arsene Wenger and David Moyes out in the cold.

Hughes is a long-term target for Rodgers, Wenger and Moyes, having impressed in central midfield for Derby.

But the 18-year-old finally looks to be on his way out of Pride Park after Liverpool agreed to meet the Rams' £12m asking price.

According to reports, the Reds will land the highly rated England Under-21 international in January.

The Surrey-born playmaker has struck four goals this season.

Cavani can afford to buy a jet himself with his massive wages. Nothing to envy about.

Pity Suarez, he was probably thinking he could spend a few days in his hometown with friends & family after the Jordan demolition job and now have to be private-jetted back to Liverpool.

Shows how important he is to the team.

It's rather unfortunate that there should be a sense of doubt regarding Menez...a few season ago, he was hot property, often described as skillful, technically gifted, adaptable in a few attacking position and most important is his pace with the ball...I think even FM has unbelievable rating for this player, but somehow, based on his track record, somehow it's much to be desired...he is what i would term as marginal return, both his value and contribution is dropping every year!!...plus his temperament is questionable, what can i say, this guy was involve in a fight with his coach! i think during his time at Roma. Having consider the negative, perhaps the positive that we can benefit from this fella, is his desire to prove he's the real deal. Maybe he need a platform to perform and i cant think of a better place to do it, than with Liverpool - its not going to be Mnure, nor CT, maybe Arsenal, but certainly not Chelskis...Perhaps one of the most significant catalyst i can think of is Cantona,,a player in a rather similar dillema, but deliver @ Leeds before moving on to u know where...if Menez can turn into a Menace to other defense, i'll be damn we'll have a good time...

Quotes from the captain:

QUOTE
Meanwhile, the Liverpool captain has stressed he is not taking a gamble by having pain-killing injections to ensure he is fit to take to the field at Wembley.

“I wouldn’t have the injections if I didn’t feel any benefit,” he added. “The reason I went in for these recently is because I’ve felt so good physically over the last couple of years.

“I’m alright. I’ve been carrying a niggle for the past two or three games around the hip area, so I’ve had some treatment in my back area, as I have done for many years to stay on top of it. It’s a lot better than it was a week or 10 days ago.”

zzz this aspas.
2 months ago, he said winning the league is a realistic goal.
now he says we should be aiming to finish in the top 4...
*
I read from one of the article, he said that Liverpool minimum goal for this season is top 4. Don't know how true is it. If its true....then... sweat.gif
I really hope he learn some media answering skills and avoid all these question. sweat.gif

Nope, France was clearly the better team. Benzema had a perfectly legitimate goal ruled offside before his offside goal so I guess it evens out.

Looks like he did score it from looking at the replay. Hit his knee didn't it...

Saw a replay highlighting Sakho vs Ukraine and he was immense. He basically was running the show as he was solid at the back and got on the score sheet as well. Can't believe that we managed to get him. What a great signing!

Haha yeah, i just saw the highlights. 2 wrongs can make a right then, in France's case at least. But oh well, don't see them as one of the favourites for the WC anyway. Especially when they will most likely get a tough draw for it.

Sakho, Agger, Skrtel all on form. Will be a tough decision for BR. IMO, he should start Sakho since Lukaku butchered us last season.

Lfc always struggle after international break.
A draw would be good at everton unless we get a red card or penalty in our favour.

Dropping points this weeks ain't that bad because ars play soto while spurs play city.

The end of any link with Rafa, both borrell and macpharland who served under Rafa, if reports were true are both 'sack' or resign. Personally, i have no doubt they improved our academy, judging from the technical ability of our younger crop of youth players. Altho none have so far been able to break and nail a 1st team position, but they are definitely more pleasing to the eyes than how Neil Mellor played...If this is taken as a signof things to come, then i think its typical American pragmatism - result result and result...but i questioned the timing of this...or perhaps this could be done towards the end of the season, becos they afterall did contribute to the academy.

The media nowadays are practically churning out players being link to Liverpool, with latest being Mitroglu and how Suarez is link to RM..both which i personally think is bulls**T...I am quite confident that Suarez will stay at least until end of the season, and Mitroglu is noway a replace for LS....Having said this, i certainly dont mind a back-up to SAS, if he is good and the price is right

i have my theory, i believe i have mentioned this before in the past.

markblurberry is quite right. the end of any ties to RB.

Probably true in regards being american, its about "results". Hope we become or improve a level up. (if FSG believes it may be the way), though i hope it won't be another 'Roy Woy episode/situation' at the academy before it get (any) better.

jeeezz

would you sell suarez for €47m?

QUOTE
Liverpool star can join Real Madrid for €47m

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez can join La Liga giants Real Madrid for €47m

Real Madrid can have Liverpool striker Luis Suarez for €47 million, according to Marca.

The Spanish press had previously revealed that the Uruguayan striker would be made available to the Bernabeu outfit and now they have suggested that Madrid can have the controversial forward for €47m.

The Liverpool ace was the subject of interest from Arsenal and Real last summer and Marca believe that the striker only didn't move to Spain because Mesut Ozil's move to the Gunners didn't go through until the very final day of the transfer window.

Suarez has been in sensational form for the Reds so far this season, having already notched up eight Premier League goals.

Liverpool have been rewarded for their striker's form as Brendan Rodgers' side currently sit second in the table.

However with Madrid looking to split up the partnership of Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, Real boss Carlo Ancelotti could have the dream trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Suarez in attack.

Rodgers took the unprecedented step of addressing the speculation as he felt it was becoming unfair on the teenager.

"I never normally say anything about players but I do really feel for this young guy," said the Reds boss.

"It is something which has been ongoing and I don't normally comment on speculation but (I will) because I have the interest of the player at heart.

"This is a kid who if he picks up the paper every weekend he is linked with coming to Liverpool.

"This is a very talented young player that either a person or a group of people aren't doing him any favours whatsoever by constantly linking him with coming to Liverpool.

"I read we had put in a bid or something had been agreed and there is nothing further from the truth. There is no bid, there has been nothing.

"This is a young kid learning the game, he is at an outstanding club at Derby, he has a great manager there and we sent one of our young players (Andre Wisdom) there to develop and learn.

"I think Will Hughes is a wonderful young talent who just needs to play football and for me he is probably at the best place he could be.

"We are always looking for talent - young players, senior players, and he along with many other players is probably one we've looked at."

QUOTE
Liverpool have declined to comment on the situation at their academy, although it is understood McParland, previously the club's chief scout, and Borrell, a former coach at Barcelona's La Masia academy, have been sacked.

Both were remnants of the Rafael Benitez era, having been appointed to the academy in 2009, and were perceived to be doing a good job.

Last season no fewer than seven youngsters - Suso, Wisdom, Adam Morgan, Samed Yesil, Jerome Sinclair, Conor Coady and Jordon Ibe - made their first team debuts.

This season the likes of Wisdom, Coady, Suso and another former academy graduate Jack Robinson have all been sent out on loan to gain more experience.

Rodgers did not expand on what was happening at the academy but did say he had kept a close eye on things a few miles up the road from the first team's Melwood training base.

"I've been heavily involved within the academy," he said.

"My first look is always within, whether it's for players or staff.

"The biggest thing I can give people is an opportunity and then it is a case of taking that opportunity and giving young players hope.

"A lot of my life was spent in youth development, I was an academy director at Reading so I understand all facets of development.

"It is something which is very important to us and it is something we will never change and I will always look for.

"It is very difficult for young players now but they will always get a chance and opportunity here if they are professional and have shown that quality.

"If it is not at that early stage - we had players (last season) at 17 playing in the team which is really unprecedented in the Premier League but there will be a pathway here for all the players.

"If they breakthrough early and can't sustain that can be natural and they may need a loan period.

"As long as they are ready by 20, 21 then that is what the academy is all about - a place to learn and develop and ultimately get through into the first team.

"It is why we have invested so much in it, why we put so much work into it, in order to get the players through."

Meanwhile, Rodgers' preparations for this weekend's Merseyside derby have suffered a blow after defender Jose Enrique was ruled out with a long-term knee injury which is likely to require surgery.

The Spaniard has been struggling with the problem for some time and has featured just twice in the Reds' last five matches, with one of those appearances a 30-minute substitute appearance.

"Jose Enrique has been struggling for a little while with an injury," Rodgers told talkSPORT.

"He will probably need an operation. It's a blow for us because he's a very talented player."

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is a doubt for Saturday’s derby with Everton because of a dead leg.

Rodgers said: “He went to England with an injury. He’s had a dead leg for three to four weeks, and he’s been playing through with it. He hardly trained when he left after the Fulham game.

“But sometimes managers are led by players as well. You as a manager can only ask the player how they feel.  If they say they’re happy, they want to play – and want to play 90 minutes – then that’s something you’ll consider.

“Roy’s obviously spoken with Daniel and he’s played the game. We’ll assess him. He’s obviously back recovering after that, and we’ll see how it is over the next couple of days.”

If it's the Yankees thinking that those 2 are not good enough, they would have been sacked earlier on. Why now?  shakehead.gif

Borrell is very highly rated among youngster coach. Liverpool really need to get same standard or better than Borrell.

Sawadeekap! Just got back from Bangkok, the city that never sleeps. Met a chick who after seeing my LFC tattoo was overcome by joy. Lot of Liverpool fans there. I'm going back next month. I've decided to find a Thai wife smile.gif

Merseyside derby. Our 1st pick, Roberto Martinez vs. Brendan Rodgers. No Sturridge? #gutted.

Sacked mid season ? Must been at odds with the board or something. Didn't we just promoted Borrell just recently ?

I read somewhere on the net, mcparland and borrell were caught negotiating with man citeh.

It could be man citeh director of football, Txiki Begiristain who lure Borrell to come and work with him again..just like the old time at Barca.

But Mc Parland...i belip his blood is Liverpool Red through and through...

and when the management found out this, so they sacked them.

dont know if true or not...such a story huh.

i have my theory, i believe i have mentioned this before in the past.

markblurberry is quite right. the end of any ties to RB.

Probably true in regards being american, its about "results". Hope we become or improve a level up. (if FSG believes it may be the way), though i hope it won't be another 'Roy Woy episode/situation' at the academy before it get (any) better.

I'll do a ball check first though with the technological advances in surgery these days, I might need to get her to do an x-ray.

Baffled over the sacking of the two but there's no point in speculating now. Official word should be released days from now. Considering the number of young players we've had feature in the first team recently, I'm amazed that they've been asked to leave. When was the last time we saw this many academy graduates in the first team? Not since I've followed the club, that's for sure.

Dont worry. Surgery is so advance now that everything can be change, even internally. If he(she) is as hot as Nong Poy. I wouldn't mind too.
http://instagram.com/poydtreechada#

I'm still puzzled why we sacked them both midway through the season. Whatever they did, we need an official statement from the club.

Losing Enrique and with Sturridge doubtful for the derby, I just hope we can still nick it from Goodison. I would put out Glen on the left and Kelly on the right. Cissokho wouldn't even make the bench in Everton's team now.

I agree with your choice of fullbacks. Kelly is a competent defender, arguably a better one than Johnson and he'll have Pienaar in his back pocket. Worried about the double threat from Lukaku and Mirallas. Our choice of centrebacks will be key here. I fancy Dagger back in the squad. He used to play really well against Drogba. I reckon Skrtel will definitely get the nod as well.

It's going to be a close one this.

Yeah I fancy both Agger and Skrtel for the occasion. They both should have the pace to minimise the threat of Lukaku. Though we have Kolo's experience and Sakho's brute strength in reserve as well. Our weakest link will definitely be left back.

On a side note, I'd love to see Lars Bender in a red shirt to challenge Lucas for his spot. Definitely need more competition for his position.

Sturridge compares Suarez and Torres
QUOTE

Having played alongside both prolific forwards, Daniel Sturridge is in a unique position to draw a comparison between Reds talisman Luis Suarez and his predecessor, Fernando Torres.

Liverpool's No.15 shared a dressing room with the latter - who fired 81 goals in 142 appearances here - for two years at Chelsea before completing a switch to Anfield in January 2013.

Sturridge has worked at close quarters with another of the world's finest strikers ever since, forming a lethal partnership with Uruguay international Suarez during the opening months of the season.

The question is: how would the Englishman, who has already found the target 10 times himself in 2013-14, compare his current teammate with former Kop idol Torres?

He told FourFourTwo: "I don't feel there is that much difference between them as they are world-class footballers, although obviously they have contrasting styles.

"Torres is more of an out-and-out goalscorer and Luis is a bit more like me, where he can play through the middle but drop off and have a dribble at different times.

"They have both scored goals for fun in the Premier League and Torres was frightening at Liverpool.

"They are great finishers in their own right but I didn't play in a front two with Torres, so it's difficult for me to make an accurate comparison.

"I love playing with Luis and we link up so well together, but I was out on the wing a lot when I was in the same team as Nando.

"It's worked out better for me at Liverpool and it's really clicked with Luis. I feel privileged to have shared a pitch with each of them."

So.. No need to sweat about the Suarez-Sturridge relationship now. rclxms.gif

We cant expect the official website to publish negative stories. So nothing to be surprised about.

With that being said I personally dont think there is anything major between sas and I believe their partnership can remain like.Healthy competition should be encouraged rather than a striker with goalscoring burden.

Rodgers instrumental in Academy Restructuring
- By sacking the remaining Rafa seedings in Frank McParland and Rodolfo Borrell
- Football world is just as cruel as the corporate world
- Every new boss want his own player no matter how good is the staff
- U can ask "David Moyes"
- But y did the club act now? If coz shockwave around the global how well the academy
is improving since rafa revamp the academy. They should do it in the summer..
Overall it show how ruthless BR can b. Just hope youngster that bought during the rafa regime will get the chance back.

Everton vs Liverpool Team News : Flanagan May Start @ RB
- BR considering starting Flanagan @ RB and moving Johnson into LB by creating a tactic mind games
ahead the crucial games against our blues enemy.
- BR hope to used enrique during this crucial games but he's now out of the season
- Aly haven't been consistent enough at LB & everton may exploit it..
- If the insider news is thru...

Then we will line-up 4.2.3.1
- Mignolet
- Flanagan
- Srktel
- Agger
- Johnson
- Lucas
- Gerrard
- Henderson
- Coutinho
- Suarez
- Sturridge

But playing Toure mayb a safe option at RB then we can revert to 3.4.1.2 with hendo & johnson playing wingbacks..Coutinho playing the hole behind the SAS. Actually the 3.4.1.2 o 3.5.2 is designed to play coutinho behind the 2 strikers. With sakho playing great against france qualification..it hard to ignore..Probably Srktel+Sakho+ Agger in the heart of defence.

Note : Daniel may not fit to start. We might see Alberto making his 1st debut start

We have to win tomoro at no cost. We let 2 goal slip away last season. I think BR would want us to push for 2 goasl n sit back n defence and play thru the counter. It work previously and it will work again. We just need to stay focus n kill the game of by half time. If we manage to score the 3 goal by 60m..we will win big. Otherwise...i'm happy we score late on n win the game.

Finally..is great to b back. Go Go Red..

Cheers.

I just dont understand why they are sacked. If rodgers wanted rubbish from dalglish era such as kevin keen sacked then it would have made sense.

FSG seems to blamed for everything although they didn't do it.Many tried to pin the racist british policy under kenny on fsg.Now some are saying borrell was sacked by fsg when in fact br wanted them out.

Btw, do you guys still remember Ilori this lad? As of now, Agger, Skrtel, Toure, and Sakho is all on top form, literally getting on beast mode, so I guess Ilori will never get his chance for the first team this season eh..? hmm.gif

If I remember correctly, this Ilori guy could play fullback position too right?

If undoing rafa's seedlings means improvement and eventually a steady supply of talents to break into first 11 that will in the near future hope lily help us land the league title, than BR will be seen as 'messiah'

Otherwise... It's taking down the foundation, for that matter even Barcelona wasn't built in 4-5years. I hope it won't come and bite us back.

Well you are right. If it turns out well everyone will be hailing br as the messiah but if it goes awry then he will be heavily criticised for undoing rafa's long term plan.

Pretty much the same with our formations. While we were winning with 352 everyone supported Br to play it.Then one or two games we didn't win suddenly everyone says 433 is the best for us.

I suppose someone might add that ala'Barcelona is pretty much robotic, hence maybe, just maybe BR would prefer to instill 'natural' talent/creativity to blossom more with new personnel /change of guard at the academy.

Thoughts?

I'll say BR is truly ambitious, it would be much easier to implement his philosophy ground up (from the academy). Also removing all of rafa's past (and any possibilities of a foothold of remotest return) ensures his (BR's) own legacy to stay long, long time wink.gif

I should be ok to catch viewing tonight.

Let's just wait to see what the official story is on the sackings. It can't be that BR is adverse to promoting lads from the academy seeing as he's already given so many of them a chance.

Dont quite get it, Roberto Martinez kinda cocky not sure if I describe him correctly. But he keeps saying he refused offer from Liverpool, it wasnt right for him, no regrets over rejecting the offer etc etc bla bla..

Er I dont remember him doing anything historic or anything. All I remember was Wigan was at bottom all the time lol and he was humble. This time he did quite well in Everton but isnt necessarily needed to rate himself so highly?

Haha..my information is true that flano is starting. Nothing to worried about now. Though I don't like him..I think we must support him. If we lack of LB..why don't we recall Robinson back. He's England u21 LB and flano is not buy get to starts games. That's show favouritism. I hope we can win this formation. Is like we playing out for a draw. Anyway if Gerrard is push forward to support Suarez means we need physical body upfront which y expect Stevie n hendo to push more upfront. Hope br don't get it wrong.

Suarez seem to be affected by the injury..hope he can shake it before second half start. Lucas so important for the teams. Many interceptions n tackle he made so far.

G cant go out now. He's the driving force for passes towards Couts and Suarez at the moment.

65th at most or 70th minute. Not now.

Stu gotta come in at some time to ease of Suarez for prevention

Couts is physically outmatched at the left and Flanno was outpaced but the lad recovered well so far. Couts have to go to the middle and when G goes out.

One of the better derby without the handbags and sending offs. Yeah its crap to drop 2 points after leading twice. But what a match. Thrilling from start to finish.

This is a game we should have BURIED and get 3 points if we dream of being in Champions League.

Again, the nominees for MOTM today, the usual suspects again, i present you

1) Joe Allen
2) Flanagan
3) Steven Gerrard

It's more than a fair result considering how many chances Everton had. And we have a superb Mignolet to thanks for. Saved FOUR 1 on 1s. Heartbreak on his face when he lets in Lukaku's equaliser.

Flano was pretty decent in this match. Much better than Cissokho I dare say.

Allen should have just passed the ball to Suarez. There's goes his confidence and place in the team.

No bro. i disagree. It's not fair. How Everton can have 11 players on the field is beyond me.

They have created alot of chances of course but if that Mirallas was out in the 50th minute, we would have killed them easily.

Agreed It is true Allen's poor miss but then again it is not open goal tho.. GK made him had to put it to side of the net, it was not as bad as open goal miss what ive seen b4. Mosses had goal opportunity also.. at the end of the day I would say defense was crucial.. def was poor

SUPERB? got exposed on the left multiple times and left SKrtel and Agger facing 3-4 Evertonian offensive players?

Slow, misplaced passes, never follow his markers.

Yea sure he is superb in creating spaces for Everton.

Regarding Allen, I think even the Yanks will say "we've had enough of him"

Sell? Who wants to buy him, that's the thing.

So we're short of DM and M. Invest in someone who is pacy and have long legs who have accuracy in tackle. Joe is too short.

To be honest, I'm satisfied with a draw at Goodison before start, and anything beyond that is a bonus.

If not due to Mignolet, we could have been humiliated by them. So I don't have much complaints.

Regarding to Mirallas tackle, yes it should be red. But in such important game, it's easier to scrutinize the ref's decision than getting into his shoes.

Great match guys. 3-3 was a fair result i should say. Very entertaining mtach.

Mirallas was a very lucky boy though. Lucky for us Suarez was a tank. And Allen omg..shud've scored.

Anyway, derby did not disappoint...everything i've expected it to be and the result could've gone either way.

Migno did well. Flanno was brilliant at times but naive at the same time. Lukaku could've bagged himself a hatty today. Everton were brilliant..they were so dangerous.

great we used agger+skrtel pair against targetman lukaku to concede the expected goal...

why no use toure or sakho?

agger and skrtel is just poor marker.. just face it.. dey are very good zonal defender but rubbish in marking.. we dont need build up play from the back line coz we already got allen, hendo, lucas who are a master of side pass.. easily the worst tonight.. glad simon save the team

Wei its not even open goal la for Allen.. there is still the GK not as bad ive seen b4 open goal no gk and misses.. Moses had opportunity also why didnt point him out lol
*
rclxms.gif Comparing Allen's attempt with people who missed OPEN GOALS with no GKs. Okay I guess that's suppose to make Allen's miss look acceptable then.

BECAUSE THERE IS A GK BETWEEN HIM AND THE OPEN GOAL!!!!!!!!!

of course GK is there FFS!

Hooray!

Yes I agree Mirallas should have gotten the red card. Too many ifs and buts. Simply, we didn't control the match. Everton were all over us today. We showed resilient coming back to equalise after letting in 2 morale damaging goals.

A very action-packed match, worthy of a Merseyside derby. Everton really swarmed us at times. We had the skills but they had the teamwork and determination.

Flanno played well and, if you consider that this was a red-blooded derby with Everton in full cry, Flanno played really well!

Allen is BR's blue-eyed boy and it's unfortunate that he had to miss that sitter - well, somebody else could have done better..but it was Allen who got into that position. He got us that chance and he also muffed it!

Focus on the positives - Coutinho scored again and hopefully the floodgates will open for him; SAS showed how lethal they are, even though they are tired/injured, again!

A good point tonight.

Seriously, I will be happy with Lalaboy if rumours of our interest is true. He's seriously skillful and pacy.

Then we need a backup DM who is hopefully tall and can cut out set piece better than Skrtel and Agger.

it always either Agger/Skrtel + Sakho/Toure.. two lukaku goal is truly unacceptable especially the first goal.. simon block the 1st shot, the team shuld be in recovery and defensive mode but yet they are leaving lukaku alone to give a full blast.. second goal, where is the agger or skrtel to guard the lukaku? or you are giving this task to poor flano?

well it's expected result but abit dissappointing coz we shuld have won the game..

this the 4th time we unable to beat against possession team.. BR shuld have alert on this

Surprisingly, no Toure or Sakho to guard Lukaka given how poor Agger+Skrtel pairing in guarding physical type player.

If not for Mignolet, we would have lost by quite abit.

If not for Allen, we could have won. LOL.

But Flanno played pretty well.

But Mignolet really saved us on more than 1-2 occasions.

the formula is simple.. mobile midfielder will give more possession

everton
barry + mccarthy + barkley

arsenal
arteta/flamini + wilshere + ramsey

soton
wanyama + shneirdelin + ramires/lalana

swansea
britton + shelvey + pablo

liverpool
gerrard + lucas + hendo/allen

see the above, we are easily the most immobile in the midfield against team above and yet wanna play poorsesion football.. no wonder we got raped by arsenal really hard

Can't help but to imagine what would happened if Joe Allen scored the vital goal. Sashimi's thread will quickly turn into an Allen appreciation thread in less than 60 seconds.

Rumor also has it that FIFA Ballon D'Or voting deadline was extended after Sepp Blatter knew that Joe was starting in today's derby. But of course sadly he didn't delivered. Yet again.

Brendan Rodgers :

"There’s still moments in the match I’d like us to improve on."

"I thought Mirallas should have been sent off. They're career threatening challenges. Should have definitely been a red card. It would have been interesting if that had been Suarez."

Everton played better, if not inability to take advantage on 4 vs 2 situation in counter attack, a number of save made by Mignolet, the scoreline could be even more.
Look at stat, number of shot at goal made by Everton, as compared to Liv.
So a draw is considered a good result, if look at the team performance.

Against pawned by better opposition tactic, and most of the time inability to get a good result from top half table teams still remain.

Whether he should be sent off or not, cannot mask the Liv was not playing well as compared to Everton, poor tactic issue, and seldom win against top half table teams in the league.

Against top half table teams record or point tally.
MU - win - 3
Soton - loss - 0
Arsenal - loss - 0
Everton draw - 1
Swansea - draw - 1
Newcastle - draw - 1

6 points from 18 points.

As said before, if the team defence is not tight and able to get clean sheet, it is hard to get good result against good teams.

BR's track record against top teams is not very promising indeed. Apart from that odd game against màn u, there's nothing to cheer about really. Really disappointed yesterday we didn't bagged 3 points yesterday. Defense were totally in shambles at times. These are the times you wish u have hyppia to marshal the defense.

Midfield selection , what else can I say. When u put Henderson , Lucas , Allen + aging gerrard in the middle, we are bound to be run over in the middle. Hendo couldn't reproduce the same form against Fulham , Lucas n Allen are both dm material. Gerrard was disappointing again , his shots n passes were out of depth at times. Never see Suarez so isolated like this before.

BR should know by now which area he needs to strengthen come January.

Getting a draw at Goodison, after the internationals is not a bad result, truthfully.

WWe're still second and we got 3 easy Games coming up with :-

Hull vs Liv
Liv vs Nor
Liv vs W. Ham

I think we can get maximum points her. It's crucial we do before festive period begin, where we will face the other top teams. Also regarding previous results with top teams, let's not forget we were all away, except for the home win vs mu. So it's not all that bad. They still have to play us at Anfield.

Everton are still unbeaten at home this season and this good run of form included a win against Chelsea at Goodison. Couple that with the fact that this was a derby, this was always going to be a tough game. I would have taken a draw prior to kickoff and fortunately, we were able to snatch a late equaliser. Earlier this season Brendan Rodgers was criticised for being negative in his substitutions. Well yesterday, he brought on Sturridge even though we were level and no one would have faulted him for trying to hold on to the point especially as Everton were all over us. I give him credit for being positive. I'm sure some will criticise him but I think it's worth pointing this out. With Sturridge on, we started to press Everton higher up the pitch, relieving some pressure on our defence. Spurs and Southampton are leading the league in balls won in the opposition half and it's something Rodgers wants us to emulate. Steve McMahon commented that Ian Rush was our best defender at the time because he would defend from the front. With both Suarez and Sturridge on, Everton didn't have as much time to pass the ball about at the back.

Game changing moments
1) Mirallas receiving on a yellow for that reckless challenge on Suarez. It was worthy of a straight red, no question. Phil Dowd got that one wrong. I feared for the worst as Suarez was already clutching his knee before that. He may go down easy but our Uruguayan is a sturdy bloke.
2) Allen's point blank miss. No sugar coating this. It was a poor poor effort.
3) Suarez's powered header at Howard's glove. Anywhere else and it would been a goal.

Positives
1) Simon Mignolet was immense. I counted some 5 one-on-one opportunities he defused. Didn't deserve to concede 3 goals did our Belgian.
2) I thought Daniel Agger did particularly well against Lukaku. Barring the 2 goals he scored from setpieces, he didn't threaten much. Consider how he tormented us for WBA last season. Was hoping prior to the game that Agger would get the nod because I've always felt he's played well against Drogba and Lukaku is similar. Agger won a fair share of challenges in the air against a much bigger opponent.
3) I was hesitant that Jon Flanagan got the nod at left back but what a game he had. Defended well and got forward to support the attack when needed.
4) Lucas Leiva was playing almost as a third centreback and made some really vital challenges after the defenders had been beaten.
5) Suarez doesn't look like he suffered a serious injury. I'm running out of superlatives to describe him.

Negatives
1) Joe Allen. Baptism of fire of sorts as he hasn't had any competitive games in awhile and he was thrust straight into of the most competitive derbies in world football. Failed to gain any stranglehold on the game and his miss could have cost us the game.
2) We lack steel in midfield especially seeing as how Henderson was playing wide right and limited to chasing long balls. Stevie tried but he doesn't have the legs to match the youthful exuberance of Ross Barkley or James McCarthy so it was left to Lucas and Allen as as we know the latter had hard time keeping up with the pace of the game. He needs more games to get back up to speed but the Merseyside Derby was not the right time for it.
3) Pienaar was a constant threat which leads me to what I said earlier about Johnson being suspect defensively which is why I prefer Kelly. Johnson did well going forward but he had no answer for Pienaar and Baines. Henderson wasn't providing too much support here either to be fair.
4) There was a moment in the match when Suarez went into a sideline challenge with Mirallas. I suspect he was trying to get back at him but Mirallas jumped out of the way. Damn. Would have loved to see Luis win the ball and send Mirallas into the stands at the same time.

It's a month to go till the transfer window and we're at 2nd just 4 points behind the league leaders. A big improvement over last season and despite some unhappy sentiment, who can honestly say they thought we'd be where we are at this stage of the competition?

Consider the performance yesterday, a draw is a good result for Liv.

Lets hope so, but BR's record against top half table teams even since last years is not that promising. sweat.gif
This year difference is able to get maximum points against lower half table teams.

Maximum against lower half table team, 10 x 2 x 3 = 60.
Getting few points from draw against top half team, if around 10+ points.
So about 4th CL target.
Without getting good result against top half team, this is the ultimate maximum what can be achieved, and still with the need to deliver maximum points against on lower half team.

Unable to get a clean sheet is a big concern right now.
The race for 4th place is quite crowded, a game of two without a win, can easily slip down in the table fast, from second to 9th, only separated by 4 points.

Ahh great summary, thanks as I missed the match last night save for the final 20 minutes.

Regarding your last statement, I agree with you however I personally would reserve any judgement until end of December. If, after facing Chelsea, City and Spurs we are still within 5 or 6 pts from the league leader, I would be very happy.

The issue of Allen, what his role in the Liv team?
At least with Hendo, people recognise as a good workhorse, closing down opponent, box to box.
Gerrard, spraying passes, diagonal passes (that lead to many goals scored), set pieces delivery (that create many assist) still top notch.
Lucas, a DM, the destroy opponent movement.
Allen?

Yes, a lot of improvement, especially against lower table teams, whereby maximum points is achieved this year.
It is not unhappy, a lot of people are happy with the points tally, and position right now.
Just because people give critical view, doesn't mean they are not happy, but rather wish to see the team improve further. Even BR had said, many area

As for yesterday match, many were happy with a point.

But the issue of poor performance, not getting good result against top half team, is a big concern. This is an issue continuing from last year or since start of BR era.

Alot of people focus on Allen's miss but Glen Johnson was having the worst game in a red shirt. He was giving the ball away needlessly and not marking tight enough. He was so slack, esp giving the ball away in the deep end of Everton's half after a throw in which lead to a one-on-one for Deulofeu. Mignolet did very well to save it.

I said before the game that our weakest link will be left-back but Flanno did a more than decent job there. It showed that passion and spirit plays a big part in a derby. Kudos to Flanno. I eat my words.

Have anyone noticed? We CAN'T defend set-pieces. I've lost count of goals conceded from set pieces. BR seriously needs to work out on this. I think teams have started to take notice of it and will make a killing for it by big physical teams.

I said before the game that a draw won't be too bad since we will still be in the top 4 as other top teams fight each other.

I think we are pretty much getting to the end of welsh xavi's time here.Thank you for services allen but they are not needed.Carloz you get your wish.hahaha

Yesterday also underlined the importance of playing two or more strikers up front. We have too many passenger midfielders who can't make a difference in the match. If we are talking about barca or bayern then it would make sense to pack the midfield.

It's no longer possible...

Worst is:
F***ing Allen... please sell him for 5M.. ASAP... he is not even suit to wear socks

Suarez to real madrid rumours has started again and I believe if we dont maintain in the top 3 and buy some QUALITY midfielders then we are resigned to losing him.

It's very important we start winning some matches against big teams in dec if we are gonna keep suarez and finish in the top 4 come may.

Agreed. Minimum requirements for keeping Suarez, is definitely a top four finish (even so, CL is not guaranteed!) + some REAL marquee midfielder because our current midfield lineup is not Champions League material yet.

John Flanagan made 9 tackles, winning 8 of them, more than anyone on the pitch. He also made 3 clearances and 4 interceptions. Well done lad. With Enrique out for a couple of months and Cissokho failing to impress, he may get more games.

Impossible? really?

Most of the top teams that we've played, we were away. Only game at home was vs mu and we we won. Losing to arsenal away is nothing to be ashamed about, especially on their form now. Getting a draw at Goodison is considered acceptable, though would had loved it if we had won.

I really hated that Allen could had missed a sitter right in front of goal. doh.gif

Rocket Ronnie's miss still stands out. Allen did miss an absolute sitter. With his pass completion percentage, he could have just passed it into the back of the net. I guess the occasion got the better of him.

Wished also that Suarez directed his header further wide of Howard, who looked like an eskimo in the middle of central park as the ball struck his glove.

I suspect the same ones defending allen now will be the first to be cursing and burning suarez shirt if he does eventually leave.

I wont blame suarez if he does leave because he has given his best even after all the summer fracas. It's just that those behind him are not upto mark. While we defend the likes of allen, suarez will grow disillusioned.

The only thing that we can console ourself with Allen's miss, is Nwanko Kanu miss the goal in 3 yards, Torreses miss was a howler, and Allen's miss was the 3rd worse i ever witnessed the other being Darren Bent's..still its a grimace, but it also signalled the low point in Allen's carreer...confidence is obviously lacking, and the arrogance on the ball is non-existance with Allen...But i like the fact that some would asked what's his role in the team? Is he just the number that crowd the midfield, or is he suppose to be an attacking midfield...as i understnd, yesterday's formation is a 4-1-4-1 which means, Cout and Allen is suppose to venture deep in opposition halfs with SG and Hendo controlling the midfield, leaving Lucas the designate DM/Sweeper role....assuming in this scenario, then Allen would had a poor game, as he is expected to either score, assist or carry some semblance of attacking thrust, which he display none....maybe Moses should have started and Allen introduce as sub, instead of the other way around..

All in all, my prediction fall flat...we didnt overrun their midfield as i expect even with 5 men, and our defense couldnt cope with their set-pieces....obviously Sturij didnt start the game is a set back...my prediction on Lukaku being off form went awry - eventho Everton only drew their last 2 games scoreless, but didnt stop him from 2 absolute clinical finishing last night..this guy's a monster..given another season, this guys should be better than Drogba...

Another point to note is that Johnson didnt have the best of game, beside ball watching, he is guilty of poor passing, poor positioning and horror defending...whereas Flanagan offers more aggressive defending and also overlap, but being 1st teamer is about consistency, as many youngsters often flatter to deceive - the likes of Sterling pop-up in mind....but still Delofeu did trouble him on 1 or 2 occasion..its still a steep learning curve for this lad..

Overall, a draw against the blue half of mersey aint too bad, considering Chelski drop points here...I guess an even steven in such pulsating match sorta bring back the gloss and glory of Merseyside derby...

*
No hard feelings for me too if he leaves for greener pastures. Every footballer dreams of playing for Real Madrid alongside the best players in the world. (unless one is born in Catalunia or supports Atletico maybe). For now he is one class above the rest of team. Not only he scores, he also creates. Just like Theirry Henry in his prime.

In fact I already resigned to lose Suarez next season, and probably Coutinho will follow suit soon after. I just hope he will give his best enough this season to put us in CL qualification, at least when he leaves, we know that he has put Liverpool in a good stead to attract a successor of his level.

From what I noticed Hendo was playing wide right in tandem with Johnson, a role as we all know he's useless in

He's a Liverpool player dude. He deserves our support as long as he doesn't cause problems off pitch and tries his best on the pitch. Yes he is struggling but if we start selling every player who goes through a purple patch, then we wont even have a squad to compete. The reality is that we don't have a squad of superstars, this is as good as it gets for now.

Bro you know as well as i do that he was injured early this season. He's not going to take off into top form with the way BR are picking his players. BR only picks players on form, yet you can only gain good form by playing games. He's only played a handful of games this season and we're already coming to nearly half the season. So i think expecting Allen to suddenly dislodge the likes of Hendo or Gerrard is quite a task - especially when they have been playing in almost all the games this season. 1.5 years may seem like a long time but Hendo and Lucas took a lot longer than 1.5 years before finally adjusted to their new club.

Purple patch means the opposite dude.

Reina too was said to be going through poor form.
However rodgers had acted fast and got rid of him.Now we have mignolet who is our top 3 player alongside sas so far this season.

There will always be someone better. No more room for sentiment at lfc.I did say allen should be given two or three games before passing judgement. He was given has failed to grab the opportunity.Do you honestly think he will improve his performance miraculously in the next few games?

I'm referring to your choice of word here " purple patch".

Of course we don't sell players undergoing a purple patch, it would be silly to do so, aren't we. rolleyes.gif

Right my mistake. I meant to say the opposite as in if we sell every players on bad form. Players like Downing, who is a finished product yet failed to produce the goods is someone i wouldn't have much problem showing the door. Ditto Konchesky and the likes of Poulsen and Joe Cole.

But Allen is only 23 ? He's got time and room to grow. Will it happen next few games or next season? Who knows man. All i know from this last decade is that we can't be too hasty at dismissing players. Carra didn't become a legendary central back until he was 27. Everyone and his dog didn't think Lucas would make it post Rafa yet he became a pivotal player under Hogdson and Kenny and now under BR. Same thing with Hendo whos now fast becoming BR's key player.

If Lucas and Hendo can make it then why not Allen ?

Only watched the first half but it was horrible defending.

Aguero was City's main threat and they gave him so much space to run around. Spurs have been leaking goals everywhere, a good sign for SAS when we face them next month. thumbup.gif

Despite spending so much on bolstering the first team, none of the players looked promising.

Having said that, if you told me before the season started that Arsenal and Liverpool will be top of the table in beginning of Dec while Spurs will do like sh!t, I would have laughed at the absurdity. That's why the BPL is the most entertaining league in the world.

If he is given an opportunity to be in the starting eleven, make sure he delivers. Everyone is waiting for the chance and if he misses these kind of golden opportunities (both the goal and the starting 11 chance), then he deserves to be dropped.

There is no point saying frustrated not to be started, frustrated to be in the reserve, when you are given opportunity and you never take it right, too bad...your time is up.

alot of IFs.

1) If Mirallas got sent off (which he should have been)

2) If Allen had scored/Passed to suarez

3) If suarez's header had been targetted elsewhere.

Based on the squad we currently have, I can see the merit in fielding Allen occasionally if only to give one of either Gerrard, Henderson or Lucas a breather. However expecting a player who has just returned to fitness not too long ago and hasn't had any competitive games this season to put it an impressive shift in the Merserside Derby is asking a lot but with Sturridge not fully fit, someone had to come in. Could have been Moses but he made very little impact on the game. We could have fielded Alberto but I've only seen glimpses of him and will leave it to those who see him in training day in, day out to assess when he's ready to start.

Allen did himself no favours by squandering a guilt edged opportunity. Fans are more forgiving when you bag a goal. If Suarez had not scored for instance, more attention would be given to the fact that he missed an easy opportunity when he hit his header right at Howard. Still, Allen isn't fit for the first team at the moment and January will be crucial if we are to last the duration of the season. I simply don't see Henderson, Lucas and Gerrard staying fit the whole season especially with international commitments in light of the upcoming World Cup.

they have money from bale to spend and they spent every single cents of it. interesting to see how they.are able to sustain.

mignolet chosen as.keeper of the week in soccernet.com. speak alot especially when you let in 3.also named as the best 1-to-1 keeper in the league
*
Hard to disagree with Nicol's opinion after Mignolet's performance against Everton. Aside from the first one v one situation where he dived at the feet of Lukaku to deflect it wide, he did what a keeper should do in one v one situations - he stood up for as long as he could, made himself big, and only committed at the last instance. Did the same when he blocked the follow up shot after saving a penalty against Stoke in our opener, he sprang back up to his feet and made himself big, narrowing the angle for the striker.

Not sure about Lukaku. He scored 2 but they were from setpieces and when he was sent through on goal, it was more about the creator or bad defending than it was about his prowess. If he had scored each time he were put clean through, that would be another story. All in, I think Agger did a pretty good job marking him.

alot of IFs.

1) If Mirallas got sent off (which he should have been)

2) If Allen had scored/Passed to suarez

3) If suarez's header had been targetted elsewhere.

IF HOdgepodge didn't play Sturridge so much.

Next 3 games and the one against Cardiff = must-win games. That's one hell of a tough Christmas schedule.

We need the next 5 games before tough away games at Citeh and Chelski where we are definitely not favourites to win. Game against Spurs and Cardiff will be tough.

QUOTE
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has questioned Daniel Sturridge's fitness levels and attitude, after confirming the striker was dropped for Saturday's Merseyside derby following a lacklustre showing in training on Friday.

"I need everyone as close to 100 per cent as I possibly can. He is clearly not," Rodgers said. "It was disappointing because you come to Goodison and you want your players firing.

"I am looking at him in training on Friday and he is not right. Whose responsibility is that? It is the [English Football] Association, the player.

"All I can do is look and assess who will give me absolutely everything when they go out on the field. There is a trend. There are maybe some games when he hasn’t played well and that has happened on the back of not training.

Is it overconfidence from Sturridge or is it because of that niggling injury that he cannot give a 100% in training hmm.gif

I think his attitude can improve further, to have more of team player spirit.

May its just me, but when he scored the equalizer and ran full length to do the dance I just wished that he would take the ball instead and rush to start the game and get the winning goal.

I can understand that he needed that goal for his confidence smile.gif oh well...

I'd think if he didn't take when opportunity comes, he'll never get in first 11. How many chances can a manager give to a player??? Debatable but most likely not much, there's only so much chances can be given. To be honest Allen's miss was real bad that rustiness wont cut it as excuse sweat.gif
Problem with Allen in advance role not only his rustiness but he's easily outmaneuvered/outmuscled as well. Would've prefer Couts in middle with Moses on left though but that'll maybe a bit tad adventurous.

If we din win as many games as possible before Dec, it'll be tough for CL footie as normally we tend struggled a LOT in Dec even against minnows.

Agreed but I'm commenting based on the limited options we have at our disposal right now. Makes me bring up the question again on whether or not we should have sold Jonjo given that we're wafer thin in the middle of the park?

I guess that's the downside of Liverpool not being involved in more competition. If we have Europa League and still in Carling Cup more opportunities for non regular player. Are we still in FA Cup?

Perhaps there was a gentleman agreement with Swansea when bought Allen ? Anyways, Alberto is probably Jonjo's replacement and if the former and the likes of Allen cant get a game then i reckon Jonjo would most likely suffer a similar fate. I think BR's preferred midfield triangle is one that consists of Gerrard, Coutinho and Lucas, backed by Hendo, Allen and Alberto. 3 back ups is adequate but Hendo has improved this season, so much so that BR starts him ahead of attacking wide players i.e. Moses and Sterling.

BR is obviously banking everything on SaS and to further augment those two, he needs an intelligent and mobile no 10 to feed them. Form aside, the likes of Coutinho, Moses and Allen fits the bill. They are intelligent, mobile players who in theory should make good ball carriers. I like Jonjo but he wasn't mobile enough for us and was prone to make harsh challenges - still remember the Liverpool series where he kept telling him to stay on his feet during training.

Different topic. Can't believe the standard of refereeing these days from the EPL. 3 BS decisons from 3 different matches. And Phil Dowd calling WBA to apologise for the horror penalty call last week. What is wrong with them, they seriously need to implement video technology if they continue to have error in the judgements. Or at least look at the 4th official for a different point of view.
