I just got a major service quotation from Mitsubishi for my Lancer GT and I feel that most of these things are way overpriced. Labor costs are reasonable but part prices are not. mad.gif

Mitsubishi Engine Oil 5W40 4L - RM209 They don't even let me bring my own oil.
Oil system care - RM45 What is this?
Oil filter - RM38.80
Engine Drain Plug Washer RM2.70
Transmission Drain Plug Washer - RM7.10
Air Filter - RM143.90 WTF so expensive for paper filter?
Brake Fluid - RM36.00
Transmission Oil CVT (6L) Diaqueen - RM300.18
Coolant (1btl) - RM24.90
Oil system cleaner - RM45.00 What is this?
Optional CVT flashing - RM300.18 What is this?
Labour (2.70 hours) - RM175.50

CVT transmission fluid price seems reasonable as I compared it with Eneos & Redline prices.
Engine oil is more expensive compared to other retailers. Aeon is selling the same oil for less.
Air filter price if a ripoff.
I read somewhere that to enable auto lock after a certain speed, something needs to be set in the ECU but the person is quoting approx RM300 as he says some hardware needs to be installed. Is this true?

My 5 year warranty ends soon. Just wondering if I should still go to Mitsubishi or to other reputable workshops. Please advice.

Mitsubishi Engine Oil 5W40 1L RM209..
almost double the price sell in AEON..
AEON sell it for RM119 and i bought at RM99 due to promotion...
100% same stock, AEON such a big company dare not import fake stock..

So service your car outside..
many SC allow bringing own engine oil, like Nissan SC allow tat everytime i service my car..

Flashing or flushing? biggrin.gif

I think what the TS meant was auto door lock after car reaches certain speed. CMIIW though.

Its CVT FLASHING. I don't know what that is and the person who I spoke to does not know either.
CVT flushing is meant for the CVT transmission fluid. I'm assuming they will flush it because they've quoted me for 6L fluid which is about right for a flush.

Yeah the door will lock after 20km if i'm not mistaken. I read that only the ECU needs to be adjusted for this. But Mitsubishi says that a hardware needs to be installed along with an ECU adjustment which would cost approx RM300.

I would definitely reject these things, waste of money. Are you 100% sure that Oil system care/cleaner are additives like X1R?

I'm so pissed right now seeing the prices that Mistubishi quoted me. Such a rip-off. Charging double for engine oil and the damn paper filter is so overpriced. 3M cabin filter costs about RM70 and they're charging over RM100. Are all Mistubishi SC the same or will they offer different packages depending on SC?

Ok I guess the CVT flashing is like checking and reading error codes on the CVT ECU and then resetting it. Seems very expensive though at rm300.

Anyway next time when you go to SC, you must ask the item details and tell them if you don't want certain things. Many SC try to make money by selling unnecessary stuff to uninformed customers, so you need to be careful.

Mitsubishi Engine Oil 5W40 1L - RM209 They don't even let me bring my own oil.

I dunno who makes the engine oil for Mitsubishi. But there are engine oils that cost so much. BUT usually the brands are almost unheard off or mostly used by continental cars. But for your case u could either stick to it as i see it is actually no different to outside price for RRP pricing of engine oils. Unless u compare to everything that is being discounted.

Air Filter - RM143.90 WTF so expensive for paper filter?

Again same case like engine oil. Could be made by some expensive brand renamed to Mitsubishi. But this u could skip getting it from them because already proven super brands does not promise drastic performance increase. U could buy OEM replacements and still have same functionality.

Oil system cleaner - RM45.00 What is this?

I believe this is engine oil flushing. Basically they run a machine that circulates an engine flushing agent for 15 minutes or more that carries carbon or waste before filling with clean engine oil. Not a lot of shops have this machine or does this. But if it is additives like X1R and such, then it is a rip off. U can decline this.

Optional CVT flashing - RM300.18 What is this?

This could be re calibrating the CVT ECU. Yes there are cars with separate ECU for engine and gearbox. That could mean changing the CVT gear change to rpm map. It might probably be an upgrade to fix errors in firmware. Cars nowdays are like computers. U can issue patches. But by right such patches should be issued free and not borned by the customer if it does prove that doing so improves the car. But u know la, if its not about safety but performance, they will charge u.

Mitsubishi engine oil is made by Eneos Japan. At AEON Jusco it's now selling for only rm119 but there was a promotion a few weeks back for only rm99. If buy Eneos brand, then will cost around rm200. Many FS oil actually selling for around rm200-240 at normal price like Mobil1, Shell Ultra, Castrol Edge, Total, etc2 so the SC simply charged on par with those other FS brands. Seems reasonable until you compare to the AEON Jusco prices then you know it's a rip-off.

Yes actually they should brief first and get agreement from the customer to do or not. Tan Chong Nissan service advisers always inform first, not just simply sneak in those stuff and charge later.
