I just got a major service quotation from Mitsubishi for my Lancer GT and I feel that most of these things are way overpriced. Labor costs are reasonable but part prices are not. mad.gif

Mitsubishi Engine Oil 5W40 4L - RM209 They don't even let me bring my own oil.
Oil system care - RM45 What is this?
Oil filter - RM38.80
Engine Drain Plug Washer RM2.70
Transmission Drain Plug Washer - RM7.10
Air Filter - RM143.90 WTF so expensive for paper filter?
Brake Fluid - RM36.00
Transmission Oil CVT (6L) Diaqueen - RM300.18
Coolant (1btl) - RM24.90
Oil system cleaner - RM45.00 What is this?
Optional CVT flashing - RM300.18 What is this?
Labour (2.70 hours) - RM175.50

CVT transmission fluid price seems reasonable as I compared it with Eneos & Redline prices.
Engine oil is more expensive compared to other retailers. Aeon is selling the same oil for less.
Air filter price if a ripoff.
I read somewhere that to enable auto lock after a certain speed, something needs to be set in the ECU but the person is quoting approx RM300 as he says some hardware needs to be installed. Is this true?

My 5 year warranty ends soon. Just wondering if I should still go to Mitsubishi or to other reputable workshops. Please advice.

Flashing or flushing? biggrin.gif

I think what the TS meant was auto door lock after car reaches certain speed. CMIIW though.

Its CVT FLASHING. I don't know what that is and the person who I spoke to does not know either.
CVT flushing is meant for the CVT transmission fluid. I'm assuming they will flush it because they've quoted me for 6L fluid which is about right for a flush.

Yeah the door will lock after 20km if i'm not mistaken. I read that only the ECU needs to be adjusted for this. But Mitsubishi says that a hardware needs to be installed along with an ECU adjustment which would cost approx RM300.

oil system care / oil system cleaner mostly stuffs like X1R engine treatment / X1R petrol treatment.. mostly i reject these stuffs when service in SC

I would definitely reject these things, waste of money. Are you 100% sure that Oil system care/cleaner are additives like X1R?

I'm so pissed right now seeing the prices that Mistubishi quoted me. Such a rip-off. Charging double for engine oil and the damn paper filter is so overpriced. 3M cabin filter costs about RM70 and they're charging over RM100. Are all Mistubishi SC the same or will they offer different packages depending on SC?

Ouch

So many unnecessary items sweat.gif

I serviced my car at proton, brought mitsu eneos japan full syn, no issue at all

They only charge me oil filter, nut and labor happy.gif

On a good news, since ur car almost 5 years edi, y not change car to vios trd flex.gif
*
What car do you drive. How much did they charge you for the other parts & labor?
I will void my warranty if I service my car elsewhere other than Mitsubishi itself. But my warranty ends in a couple of months, so it doesn't really matter.

How about service centers like EON, ENEOS etc? Or am I better off asking around to find a proper workshop around my area?

Just to clarify other members' responses, I did not service my car yet. The prices that I listed are just quotations that were given to me.

May i know which SC you went?

They definitely overcharged you.

This a quotation from Target Orion Klang. Since you've mentioned that you work for Mitsubishi, may I ask how much would your SC charge for a major service like this? Minus the unnecessary stuff of course.

It's to flash the TCU. Newer firmware and codes should improve the transmission reaction/ drive-ability / reliability. Early batches of proton CVT from punch was plagued with jerks and so hence there's so called CVT reflash done on most sagas. Normally, if there's is no problem with the current firmware, there is no need to reflash it to a newer version. Some time there's just some glitch in the coding which they've fixed but ultimately there's no change in gear change characteristics. TCU tuning is nitch, I know a few people who actually can tune TCU for CVT but it's more geared towards daily driven setup. If you're good in TCU tuning, you may increase the number of virtual gears or lock the gearbox to change at peak power rev. You will not over rev your engine unless you're at over drive / neutral / reverseĀ  whistling.gif

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I drive a 09 model and there aren't any issues currently. Smooth gear changes and no lag issues. Asides from the jerking problem that you mentioned, what else would prompt a re-flash and is it worth paying over 300 bucks for it?
