Nope, i just dont prefer FPSes that breeds a certain amount of fanatism and skill-gaps. It's a sorry scene to see when newbies or those who had very little time to spend on practising (due to other constraints like having a life, and work) gets pummeled helplessly or shamed while the others leave him for the rats to finish off.
Atmospheric FPSes like Doom 3 and Prey promotes a certain level of equality, although there will be a certain amount of skill obtained once you played it enough times. This kind of FPSes are also not extremely punishing if you makes mistakes , get shot once, you drop a certain percentage of health but you still can scurry to the closest health banks/kits to recover. It's just me, i cant be bothered to spend time perfecting myself in only one particular type of FPS when i'd rather enjoy a broad spectrum of the games that lies within this genre. |

Oh I see. Cool. Hmm... now thinking about getting this game. I just found out it runs on Doom 3's engine (no wonder it looked similar graphically) and after watching some Gameplays and the GameSpot Video Review, seems like I'll enjoy this game. I enjoyed Doom 3 a lot so I think I'm gonna get this. Heh I'll see what happens tomorrow when I go to SG

Finished Prey on Normal setting, the final levels were horrifying sick! The maniacal crazy laughter of The Keeper had me turing down the volume on the HT, otherwise people would be thinking im keeping a pontianak in my room!
Will be restarting later on the Cherokee setting. P/s: Doesnt the edifice in while those spider henchmen crawled out look a little too familiar? We already have anus-looking bodypart-spitting walls, but female genitalias? This game is sick! |

I finished Prey a few days ago and jumped straight into a ranked matched and despite the lag, I managed to come in first place
Prey is pretty easy if you ask me. You don't really die or get reverted back into a checkpoint or something if you run out of health. You got to Deathwalk, shoot some Wraiths down and you go right back where you died. Still the game is pretty fun |

The game relies heavily on those WTF moments rather than tactical FPSes or horror-heavy FPSes like Doom. Moments like teleporting onto that small moon, only to realise that i is you who had been shrunk down to size, or frantic trackball piloting of the spacecraft in narrow spaces, or those spider dudes disappearing into women "private parts". I got into the groove of things by swearing along with Tommy as well, i like his straight forward emotional outbursts as well, rather than keep-cool-like-gentlemen attitudes in normal FPSes.
Kudos on the story too as well, it provides probably cause and reason behind Cherokees/Native American purported spiritual powers and origins. |

Rather than giving scores, what are your other options? I'd say i agree with IGN's score on Prey, it scored 9.0 and it is Outstanding.

I just got the game today.
And I just finished it! Really.. it could have been a great game, some additional touches to the story line, less shuttle sequences, could have risen above any other average FPS. But one thing just plain dragged it down in my opinion. DEATH WALKING.. DEATH in a game is suppossed to be a penalty, you sucked, you died, you screwed up. you pay for it. But in Prey, when you die you enter death walking which is basically a short 10 second sequence for you to get your bearings back (yes.. you can literally just stand that and do nothing and come back to life) And when you come back to life it's not like you quick loaded a save game or anything, you just pick up where you left off, the boss is still wounded, the enemies you killed or dead, so nada, nothing, NO PENALTY AT ALL. When you realise that death holds no meaning you stop playing a game, you stop dodging agreesively, there's no tension, no stress, and then finally you realise there's just no fun in it anymore. There are parts of the game where it shines, nice touches of level design and uses of the portal methodology, at times the story tries to get interesting but it's too little too late. I had so much hope on this game.. WASTED hope now! For a single player game it sucks because as I mentioned, there's no tension when you're playing. Maybe that's why they don't allow you to pick Cherokee level immediately since you could probably just breeze through that as well! Haven't played any MP matches yet though. |
