My original tv w650d sounds are too thin, especially no mid or low from it. Therefore I bought CT780 to improve a dialogue voice, overall vocals are clear, crisp, loud, sounds detail much better but subwoofer too weak, perhaps i get used to watch remux movies on logitech z906. It is for bedroom purpose, so i wont put a high expectation on it.

Thanks. How much did you pay for it?

The CT780's sub is puny. You can't expect much from a little 6" driver with a weak amp.

Hello gurus.. I do not have a high requirement on sounds, as long as the sounds quality are better than the TVs. I came across 2 soundbars that are on sales, Sony HT-CT80 for RM399 and LG LAS550H for RM699.

I did some online comparison here, http://www.which.co.uk/reviews/sound-bars/compare and found LG LAS550H is better in terms that it has a wireless subwoofer and has HDMI output. Can anyone with experience with one or both of these soundbars give their real life experience? Or gurus with technology experience provide some techie comments?

Sorry, I know those 2 soundbars are not high tech but I think it will fit my purpose.

Go try it out in electronic shop... Bring your own movies or music along. Tried the lg sound board that you mentioned. The sound quality is quite good and loud, the SA was playing some music from YouTube. But wasn't really happy with the silver color design. Then went to Sony centre nearby and asked for the cheapest sound bar available with subwoofer( as I already had one CT-770, looking for another one for bed room only). I felt like my altec Lansing pc speakers are better than that. Then the SA let me tried out HT-NT3, and I was sold instantly biggrin.gif

I had a Sony CT-770 before, and I think the the HT-NT3 is a lot better than CT-770. The HT-NT3 sound is more balanced for hi and low frequency, whereas the CT-770 Bass is a bit too much and boomy... And not to mention the HT-NT3 has better design to be used for wall mount purpose biggrin.gif

Hello, good day to forummers. I am looking for recommendations regarding native 2.1 speaker setup such as swan m50w without amplifier vs something like sony ct380. Which will be better in terms of sound quality between these two?

I've had the M50w for 5 years now and in the last 5 years, I've tested numerous soundbars. Not a single one (in my experience) has beaten the M50w in sound quality alone, yet.
Functionality and ease of use is a different story though.

But if to compare between the m50w that doesnt comes without those dac amplifier etc, can it still beat the soundbar which have one although a digital one? Also I noticed that many soundbar comes with dts, dolby etc, Will this enhance the quality of the sound coming from the soundbar itself if compared with m50w which lack all these decoder?
I am contemplating whether to buy the sony ct380 or the m50w for my TV setup. Also would use the speaker to occasionally listen to music. I want something that is better than my TV speaker at that price range below RM1K

There are a lot of things you need to go research bro, you have a lot of things mistaken.

Of course, you need a simple DAC of some sort to get a digital signal from your TV to the M50w. Dolby and DTS are codecs, not "sound quality". You need a pre/pro or a decoder of some sort to decode those codecs, get transferred to a DAC and then to the M50w.
By right, a TV with audio out should usually have a built-in DAC. Any Dolby or DTS content will just be dumb-ed down to PCM 2.0 when connected to the speaker out. But not all TVs does this, so do check.

Like I said, sound quality alone, the M50w will walk all over the CT380. But functionality wise, that's a different story. I mean, are you going to get off your couch to change the volume everytime from the M50w's volume puck?

If you're adamant about using the M50w for the TV, check if your TV has proper audio out at least. Then hope your TV does decode DTS content (believe or not, until today there are still many that doesn't) and downmix it to PCM 2.0.

Thank you for your input. I've checked my TV and it does have an audio out however as you say it will only down mix to PCM 2.0 only the optical output support dts for my TV. However my tv does comes with function to adjust volume whether from TV remote controller or from sound system remote controller. I guess this only applies for soundbar or any 5.1 system.

Hi,
Any advice on Yamaha soundbar YAS-105? It's built-in subwoofer, so thinking it will save space :-) I have tested the sound at Harvey Norman, seems pretty good.
