The Seller whatsapp me few days ago that Yamaha Malaysia need register the unit in Yamaha Malaysia website in order to get extra 6 months. Thereafter, total warranty now is 18 months after verification.

QUOTE(jhleo1 @ May 17 2019, 09:26 PM)
Received the unit today. Officially upgrade from Bose Soundlink (free gift from Standard Chartered Bank) Revolve to YAS-208.

Installation to link the YAS-108 with my Xiaomi Mi TV4 55" and Nvidia Shield TV thru HDMI ARC are pretty easy. Updated the firmware to v4.0 too.

Prefer to use the Yamaha Home Theater Controller app to control the soundbar instead the remote control.

Yes agreed with you that the 3D Surround & Clear Voice Dialogue features must turn on. TV full of surround sound & voice are clear and sound.
I do set on Bass Extension but left 0 to subwoofer at the moment.

If you ask me, I will recommended LG SK9Y which is already in your previous listing, I am using it, Haha! RM 2k. Original release is RM 4k++, probably due to new version is out soon, it is freaking cheap now, another reason maybe sales not good due to the default setting bass like missing.

This sound bar is fantastic after you did some adjustment on it, especially increase the woofer to maximum +6, it is freaking strong bass after this changes.

Original setting of 0 in woofer make the bass very weak, I don't know why LG tune like that, maybe the person tune it don't like bass. Haha!

If you want more level up, then LG SL10Y (not yet in Malaysia market), or Samsung harman kardon hw-n950. But both price at +/- RM 5k.
This two model support all kind of sound format include Dolby Atmos and DTS: X.

Another can consider is JBL 3.1 Soundbar which around RM 2.2k, I haven't test yet but from all user here that own it or test it said very awesome.
In this case you must increase your budget to RM 2.2K, then you can choose either JBL Bar 3.1 or if you still interesting with LG SK9Y, trust me the woofer is freaking strong, just the person tune it wrongly in default setting which make the bass like never exist.

Do this setting and try again.

For LG SK9Y
- Treble (-2)
- Bass (+2)
- Center (+1)
- Woofer (+6)
- Real Output (Surround)
- Preset (Bass Blast+)

LG SL10Y 5.1.2ch vs SAMSUNG HWN950 7.1.2ch
Best price RM4998 vs RM3955

HWn950 seems cheaper than SL10Y.. about 1000+ lesser
Why hwn950 at perak nearly 2k less compare kl..
Need to check comparison in this both latest spec...
Works well in Hdmi arc ?

This is very important because to get any lossless sound you need connect your device to soundbar HDMI-IN.

Connect device to TV and ARC to soundbar only support lossy sound.

If not support HDR, then your visual will have problem where only can out SDR.

HDMI ARC is useless as it not support lossless sound.

Unless the soundbar is using latest eARC, then support lossless but in this case your TV also need to support eARC. Basically only this year high end model support eARC.

OK good. then checked spec sheet, LG SK9Y got:
1x optical in
1x 3.5mm in
1x HDMI in (4K HDR pass through)
1x ARC HDMI out (4K HDR pass through)

So will my setup like this correct?

1) PS4 pro HDMI out connect to TV HDMI in + optical out connect to LG SK9Y optical in
2) TV box HDMI out connect to LG SK9Y HDMI in
3) LG SK9Y ARC HDMI out connect to TV ARC HDMI in

This ensure my PS4 pro can play 4K HDR direct to TV but audio will be using optical since PS4 pro dont have dobly atmost (unlike xbox one S).
Then I will be able to play 4K HDR video content from TV box with 4K HDR pass through LG SK9Y to TV.
Then with ARC HDMI between LG SK9Y and TV, occasionally I can play movie/audio direct from TV to LG SK9Y without TV box (though this may not work as per read in this thread).

Why not PS4 to SK9Y then TV. Just simple with two HDMI cables connection since SK9Y can do 4K HDR pass through from PS4 to TV.

I wonder how audio can pass through 2 source ? ..
Automatically picks or need to choose manually either 1 ?
Isn't that 1 source enough either arc or optical ?

To get Dolby Atmos in Netflix, you need either of following.

1) TV with Dolby Atmos support + Dolby Atmos Soundbar.
2) TV without Dolby Atmos support but with TV Box that support Dolby Atmos (currently only Apple TV 4K support) + HDMI in at Dolby Atmos Soundbar.
3) TV without Dolby Atmos support but with gamer device support Dolby Atmos (currently only Xbox support) + HDMI in at Dolby Atmos Soundbar.

They is no Android TV Box support Netflix in Dolby Atmos included Nvidia Shield even though Nvidia Shield can support Dolby Atmos in others apps but not in Netflix apps because Netflix not support it, not because Android TV OS not capable.

So you only have 3 options now for Netflix in Dolby Atmos
1) Buy Apple TV 4K
2) Buy Xbox
3) Buy New TV

* I exclude Pixela 4K Smart Tuner because that box is Japan country tuner box even though this box is running Android TV OS but I doubt you can get it or fully utilize it, the tuner part sure won't work but others apps in Android TV possible can but cannot guarantee if they set country specific.

Or don't buy anything now, wait for eARC, off course you need to get a new TV and also Soundbar using eARC that required HDMI 2.1 tongue.gif
With eARC, they is no compromise of sound output as it is big enough bandwidth to pass thru Dolby Atmos in Dolby TrueHD even you connect your device to TV and later to SoundBar. For the moment the reason why device need connect to soundbar HDMI-IN instead of TV is due to bandwidth issue at HDMI 2.0, I read further TV Dolby Atmos support is compress version of Dolby Digital Plus instead of Dolby TrueHD. Anyway Netflix is only running compress version of Dolby Atmos in Dolby Digital Plus not Dolby TrueHD.

Bro i just not very clear about this audio passing through method. Tv has no dolby audio dolby atmos or dolby digital or digital plus feature, so we play a movie from an app.example netflix in tv itself. we cannot get dolby audio.. since just normal tv speaker

But when normal tv connect with a sound bar which has all audio features atmos dd dd+ , should be able to get dolby audio right..
Playing a movie in tv netflix app. Video playing in tv, audio signal.pushed to soundbar which is able detect all format..then why tv must be dolby compatible?

LG SK9Y big cons is only have one HDMI-IN, so you need to choose either one from your device.
- PS4 Pro or TV Box.

Decide which one can give you more movies in lossless audio (Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Multi-channel PCM).

2nd throw away optical in, optical only can pass thru lossy audio and you won't need it.

Assume as you said PS4 Pro only up to lossy audio support.
But I think PS4 Pro support lossless track in Blu-ray, for local downloadable content wise I no idea.

I suggest below connection if you don't have a lot blu-ray and PS4 Pro support local downloadable content is not good.

1) TV Box to LG SK9Y HDMI-IN (for lossless audio)
2) PS4 Pro to TV HDMI-IN (for lossy audio)
3) TV to LG SK9Y HDMI ARC (for lossy audio)

As for 4K HDR, don't worry, it is fully support in LG SK9Y HDMI-IN and HDMI ARC.

Just remember,

SoundBar HDMI-IN give you lossless audio track as long your device connected to it support.
SoundBar HDMI ARC give you lossy audio track and may have sound delay issue.

A lot TV have Dolby Digital. You can get Dolby Digital by connecting your TV to SoundBar HDMI ARC, your Netflix can playback in Dolby Digital.

Some TV also have Dolby Atmos in Dolby Digital Plus, example LG OLED TV and by connecting to SoundBar HDMI ARC, your Netflix can playback in Dolby Atmos in Dolby Digital Plus, as Dolby Digital Plus still is lossy track where still capable pas thru HDMI ARC. ** Maybe this connection is not correct for LG TV because this SoundBar have a special connection type call LG TV and I don't have LG TV, thus I no idea what is the special of LG TV connection type.

The Netflix able to playback in above mentioned support track also depends on the Netflix apps in your device support or not as well.

To get sound format you need, it needs to be both side support.

Beside this, If the device can decode and output as multi-channel PCM, you get the exact same audio track (up to Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD MA) even though this SoundBar not support DTS HD MA, but due to the device you connected to the SoundBar HDMI-IN is support decode to Multi-channel PCM first before it pass thru to this SoundBar. In the SoundBar will display as PCM.

Decode to Multi-Channel PCM not included Dolby Atmos or DTS: X because this both new format is just a metadata on top of the Audio Track (either it is Dolby Digital Plus (only Netflix and iTunes movie use this format) Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD MA) The track itself either Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD MA is decode to multi-channel PCM but not the metadata of Dolby Atmos or DTS: X. Also remember it depends on the apps itself capable or not.

Currently for Netflix & iTunes movies in Dolby Atmos at Dolby Digital Plus only support in Apple TV 4K Box. Since it is Dolby Digital Plus which is lossy track, so lossless track of Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD MA or Multi-Channel PCM is possible better.

Ok. Understand. Need to try later on during setup only know. Because my concern was on ARC delay. Went to shop tested few time and noticed the sound delay. As I hardly use my PS4 for watching Netflix or movie, it is just for gaming so thinking connect it direct via optical to LG SK9Y instead of PS4 > TV > LG SK9Y.

So far I know for TV box only Apple TV 4K support Netflix in Dolby Atmos if the title support it.

Apple TV 4K origin support up to Dolby Atmos in Dolby Digital Plus up to 7.1 channel but not Dolby Atmos in Dolby TrueHD. For third party apps it is supporting auto decoded up to 7.1 channel Dolby TrueHD and also up to 7.1 channel of DTS-HD MA to up to 7.1 multi channel PCM. The sound will output as Multi channel PCM which will be identical with original track without any changes. The limitation is currently it can't decode the metadata from Dolby Atmos in Dolby TrueHD and also metadata from DTS:X in DTS-HD MA. This probably need more license and unless Apple support it else it is not possible third party apps support it and I doubt Apple will support for the moment since Apple own iTunes movies and also Netflix is only up to Dolby Atmos in 7.1 channel Dolby Digital Plus.

Dolby is a company. Dolby Atmos is one of the sound technology release by Dolby. They is plenty format had been release since year 1965.

Dolby is start as a company introduce noise reduction. The first consumer product is Dolby-NR introduce in cassette. If you have play cassette album before, you probably had seen and use before Dolby-NR device to reduce the noise generate by the cassette. I still remember it is such an awesome experience that time when first time I own and heard the cassette with Dolby-NR support Walkman - Panasonic Portable Cassette Player RQ-S33.

I suggest you study more by Google or at least look below few article for more understand and familiar with it.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_Digital_Plus

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_TrueHD

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolby_Atmos

Lastly for your information, it is call Dolby not Dobly.
