Hello brothers..

i am just confused to get either yamaha / sony soundbar. I am not going for few speakers.
so just 2.1 channel soundbar + subwoofer / 7.1 channel with subwoofer..
Budget in between 1k - 1.5k..
my concern is more to dolby audio with good surronding system.

After some analysis i made up my mind with YAMAHA & SONY..

YAMAHA YAS-207 best price rm1349 ( anyplace can get cheaper than this ? )
- 2.1 channel , soundbar with wireless subwoofer
- bluetooth, hdmi, hdmi arc, digital optical, 4K HDR HDMI Pass Thru
- dolby audio, dolby digital, DTS
- surround technology DTS Virtual X
- remote control function
- already done sound test at showroom superb, amazed with the sound quality

YAMAHA YAS-306 best price rm1600+
- 7.1 channel sound bar built in dual woofer, dual tweeter, dual built in subwoofers
- digital optical, digital coaxical, analog, no hdmi
- bluetooth , lan, wifi
- dolby digital, dolby pro, dts
- surround technology air surround extreme
- never tested the sound

SONY HTC-CT800 best price rm1235 ( anyplace can get cheaper than this ? )
- 2.1ch Soundbar with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth® technology subwoofer
- Analog Audio In(Inc TV CEC), Ethernet, Opt. In, USB , 1 HDMI Out(ARC) , 3 hdmi , 4K HDR HDMI Pass Thru
- bluetooth Yes(A2DP (SINK), A2DP(SOURCE), AVRCP, LDAC, AAC)
- WIFI
- Dolby Digital, DolbyTruHD, Dolby Digital+, Dolby Dual Mono , DTS
- surround technology S-Force PRO Front Surround

SONY HT-X8500 no price yet
- 2.1CH DOLBY ATMOS®/DTS:X® SINGLE SOUND BAR WITH BUILT-IN SUBWOOFER
- HDMI input suppports Dolby Digital,Dolby Digital plus,Dolby TrueHD,Dolby Dual mono,DTS,DTS HD High Resolution Audio,DTS HD Master Audio,DTS ES,DTS 96 / 24,DTS: X,MPEG2-AAC
- HDMI eARC supports Dolby Digital,Dolby Digital plus,Dolby TrueHD,Dolby Atmos,Dolby Dual mono,DTS,DTS HD High Resolution Audio,DTS HD Master Audio,DTS ES,DTS 96 / 24,DTS: X,MPEG2-AAC
- Optical Input supports Dolby Digital,Dolby Digital plus,Dolby Digital plus / Atmos,Dolby Dual mono,DTS,LPCM 2ch,MPEG2-AAC
- Virtual Surround Technology S-Force PRO,Vertical Surround Engine (Dolby Speaker Virtual/DTS Virtual:X)
- usb, bluetooth
- no idea all the inputs support different audio format, that means need to connect all the cable to TV ?

Personally i have tested sound for YAS207 & HTCT800. YAS207 i did dolby sound test and it was awesome. HTCT800 just normal sound so couldn't see the difference i guess i need to dolby test again.
Input vice, HTCT800 is the winner. More ports and option. You can expend more.
Audio format HTC800 winner as well, support more.

So now i am confused to get YAS207 / HTCT800.
Any brothers here can share me your personal input on both YAS207 vs HTCT800 would be very much appreciated.

I wad also looking at the Yamaha....but there is no Dolby Atmos. I think you should look for one with Dolby Atmos as it is getting popular. Netflix also broadcadt some shows in Dolby Atmos.
*
I went to harveynorman IPC IKEA to test.. need to check other places if can get cheaper ir not.. i tested sound from youtube so i couldnt hear difference between dolby atmos vs dolby true hd..
Very hard to pick.. i feel YAMAHA produce good bass and sony good clarity.

YSP 1600 - RM2106 (5.1ch, dolby audio,dts,dtsx)
YAS 306 - RM1508 (7.1ch built in subwoofee)
YAS 207 - RM1499 (2.1 ch, 200w, 4k)

HTX9000F - RM1999 (2.1ch, dolby atmos)
HTCT800 - RM1239 (3.1ch, 350w, dolby audio)

LG SK9 - RM2097 (5.1.2 ch,dolby atmos, 500w)
LG SK8 - RM1398 (2.1ch , dolby atmos,360w)
LG SK6 - RM1096 (2.1 ch)

For dolby atmos LG SK9 seems better over SONY HTX900F.. Both just 1 hdmi in, 1 hdmi out. If u have more devices than got to use tv..

Wow! There's some serious legwork there! thumbup.gif

I think it would be better to test dolby atmos sound using NETFLIX or some downloaded files which you know the sound track has a good/complete DD Atmos, rather than Youtube as we can't be sure the quality of the source. Unless you intend to buy a lot of Blurays or download huge uncompressed files with DDTHD or DTS-MA, i don't think there is a reason to have DD True HD or DTS-MA. So it depends on what you intend to watch.

Even then, DD Atmos is the future, i believe. The Yamaha models has been around for some time and haven't been updated yet, hence no DD Atmos. Although i am big fan of Yamaha ( i have Yammy AVR, subwoofer, digital piano, electric guitar etc....), i can't honestly recommend to spend the same amount of money to get something that is already obsolete right out of the door, when we can see the next big thing standard already here and available, when you can spend about the same to get the latest elsewhere.

As for the 1 HDMI in, 1 HDMI out, it can be resolved with a HDMI switch. You will have to find a HDMI switch which supports 4k60p and HDR (for connecting PS4, Bluray etc to play 4K with HDR). Problem with soundbar is there is always not enough HDMI ports, even the highest end soundbar maybe gives you 3 ports at most. When looking for HDMI switch, if possible, also get one which does not need external power and can be power by the HDMI cables alone. This will save some hassle and one less cable (i hate cables...).

Thanks for the information brother. Appreciate it..
So which sound bar you suggesting based on your expertise brother?

I not sure for others, but LG SK9 won't activate Dolby Atmos if your source is not direct connect to the soundbar but TV itself.
*
I see, what about the sound delays i am hearing about... how it happens
OPTION A : astro / android box --> TV (hdmi in) --> soundbar (hdmi arc out / optical)
OPTION B : astro / android box --> soundbar (hmdi in) --> TV (hdmi arc out / optical)

both option giving different sound ha... LG spec desciption not detail enough as SONY saying about the ports and what sound can be delivered. Atleast user can have idea.

Example for SONY HTX9000F Audio Formats

HDMI input - Dolby® Digital, Dolby Digital Plus™, Dolby® TrueHD, Dolby Atmos®,Dolby® Dual mono,DTS®,DTS-HD High Resolution Audio™,DTS-HD Master Audio™,DTS-ES,DTS 96/24,DTS:X™,LPCM(2ch / 5.1ch / 7.1ch), DSD(2ch / 5.1ch)

Optical Input - Dolby® Digital,Dolby® Dual mono,DTS®, LPCM 2ch

USB - DSD(.dsf / .diff), Wav, Flac, Alac(.m4a only), AIFF, HE AAC, AAC, mp3, Monkey Audio, WMA, Ogg Vorbis

Bluetooth(Receiver) - SBC, AAC

I am not expert bro.. sweat.gif..i only give some opinion based on what  i would look for...

I think you have done roundup of a good selections already, now it's matter of fitting your budget and needs. Another model you can look into is the SONY  HT-Z9F. This one RRP at RM2,999 but should be able to get cheaper at shops and online.

I don't know what do you watch most, so what do you intend to watch most? For me, my main source is Netflix and Youtube and ahem sources for Asian Dramas which will not have any sort of quality surround sound anyway.

As for quality of the sound of the soundbar, you will have to listen to it and make your own judgement. I haven't hear any of them so i won't comment. I can only comment on the specs. tongue.gif
*
Ya HD movie with dolby sound, i hate my current SAMSUNG 4K TV NU8000 sound quality. That is why i would like to go for soundbar. Wanted to enjoy dolby audio. I see in this TV has dolby option but cannot enable it since no dolby support device attached.
Whats the point having 4K TV but no soundbar no android box. hahaha...
I have doubt SONY / LG soundbars will be compatible to SAMSUNG 4K TV ? Is the will be any BUGS firmware or software issues, sound delays or any glitch ?
Worry spending high, if anything does not sync or goes wrong total effort and money wasted.

Is your TV Netflix support Dolby Atmos as it depends on the playback device as well.

If your TV Netflix not support Dolby Atmos then you won't get Dolby Atmos output even though the Soundbar support it.
*
Haa really ? So far i play netflix i can see 5.1 stated on title.
When check tv sound setting it automatically detects dolby digital, but for digital+ its saying need arc hdmi..

For the astro hd channels which dolby audio movies , got to enable audio setting in decoder. Change to digital5.1 so tv can detect.
That means my tv not capable of supporting dolby atmos so that is why i do not see any netflix title with dolbyatmos ?
Any movie which in dolbyatmos that you can see in your netflix app, so i can check in mine whether got any dolbyatmos sign or not..

user posted image[/url]

Ya none below shown dolbyatmos sign at title just 5.1

Okja (Dolby Atmos)
Blame! (Dolby Atmos)
Death Note (Dolby Atmos)
Wheelman (Dolby Atmos)

Another thing i read somewhere, LGSK9Y has trouble to detect ARC for samsung NU8000.
Just had plan of buying LGSK9Y, Now in dilemma of brand compatibility issue

To get netflix atmos audio, u must have:
.. tv is atmos capable and correct connection made... check yr tv specs.
.. home theater or sound bar must be atmos capable, setup ready for it.

If either is missing, u get dolby 5.1, that's it.
*
ahhh too bad.. NU8000 not atmos supported, tv spec just says Dolby supported. dolby digital & digital+ (surround)
is LGSK9Y compatible to this TV, as i read having issue for ARC ?

Your TV not support Dolby Atmos, actually most TV not support Dolby Atmos.

I had check the 1st one Okja and that title is Dolby Atmos title and you are correct it won't show you Dolby Atmos as label if they is no Dolby Atmos support in your system.

You can ask the shop test connection LG SK9Y with Samsung NU8000 to confirm working or not. No one can answer you this unless they is a person have NU8000 + LG SK9Y.
*
aishh.. i should have got this ARC information earlier so that i could have tested LG SK9Y with NU8000 at harvey norman.. since they have demo units.

so even if i connect tv to soundbar which supports dolby atmos, i still would not be able to hear atmos since my tv not supports ?
what if i play netflix from android box which supports atmos, plug straight to atmos soundbar , then to TV... is it works ?

To get Dolby Atmos in Netflix, you need either of following.

1) TV with Dolby Atmos support + Dolby Atmos Soundbar.
2) TV without Dolby Atmos support but with TV Box that support Dolby Atmos (currently only Apple TV 4K support) + HDMI in at Dolby Atmos Soundbar.
3) TV without Dolby Atmos support but with gamer device support Dolby Atmos (currently only Xbox support) + HDMI in at Dolby Atmos Soundbar.

They is no Android TV Box support Netflix in Dolby Atmos included Nvidia Shield even though Nvidia Shield can support Dolby Atmos in others apps but not in Netflix apps because Netflix not support it, not because Android TV OS not capable.

So you only have 3 options now for Netflix in Dolby Atmos
1) Buy Apple TV 4K
2) Buy Xbox
3) Buy New TV

* I exclude Pixela 4K Smart Tuner because that box is Japan country tuner box even though this box is running Android TV OS but I doubt you can get it or fully utilize it, the tuner part sure won't work but others apps in Android TV possible can but cannot guarantee if they set country specific.

Or don't buy anything now, wait for eARC, off course you need to get a new TV and also Soundbar using eARC that required HDMI 2.1 tongue.gif
With eARC, they is no compromise of sound output as it is big enough bandwidth to pass thru Dolby Atmos in Dolby TrueHD even you connect your device to TV and later to SoundBar. For the moment the reason why device need connect to soundbar HDMI-IN instead of TV is due to bandwidth issue at HDMI 2.0, I read further TV Dolby Atmos support is compress version of Dolby Digital Plus instead of Dolby TrueHD. Anyway Netflix is only running compress version of Dolby Atmos in Dolby Digital Plus not Dolby TrueHD.

Aduiii sakit kepala la fikir fikir fikir.. ARC eARC DOLBY...
Thanks for the brief explanation brother..
Feel like not getting anything just sit watch whatever default..

I remember a few salesperson told me ARC mostly doesn't work , told me to use optical cable instead for soundbars

and it happen to my case as well, all my ARC doesn't work, end of the day, its because of the HDMI cable, get the correct spec one, all workable

a lot 3rd party hdmi cable state 2.0 or 1.4, mostly fake I think, non ARC workable
*
Oh really ? What model sound bar and tv you connected through arc bro..
U mean all source connect to tv, from tv to sound bar use digital optical cable..?
If all source go to soundbar then connect to tv via optical ?
Certain things not pass through optical right..

SK8 sound not good, the sound a bit break in SK8. SK8 only have 3 speakers (2x Front and 1x Sub) but SK9 got 8 speakers (2x Front, 1x Center, 2x Side Surround, 2x Up Firing, 1x Sub). It is difference. As for Sony CT800, sorry I didn't test it, no idea.
Haha! tongue.gif
Ya, ARC required high speed 18Gbps HDMI cable, else it keep failing. I face it also as I left only a normal speed cable that time and it is not working at all. So I change to high speed one and all settle.
Haha!

Optical cable don't give you Dolby Atmos, Dolby Atmos only can pass thru HDMI cable, others all won't work. Optical only do normal DD and DTS.
*
Today i went to harverynorman.. so i asked the sales person to test LGSK9 connect to nu8000 demo tv. 1 person wanted to test. Another person stopped him wanted to know why ? So i claimed i worry if ARC doesn't works between.
3rd person suggested to use optical cable instead of arc. I claimed there is some restriction.
Then they claimed yes will have problem with ARC why not just get samsung sound bar should be compatible..

I condemn samsung tv sound system itself sucks, soundbar i have no confident.
Another person challenged me do you know who build sound system for samsung is "harmon kardon" own by them.
He showed me one of the samsung sound bar which written "samsung harmonkardon" top of it..

they want ppl use additional sound system ofcoz will not design highend in tv, business factor.

Then i had no choice went to check other bars again . now diff sales person.. he suggested to get YAS207.. tested side to side. with sony 9000F...
Ofcos YAS207 tremendous i agree.. this plug and play no settings needed..
He claimed 100% sure YAMAHA and SONY ARC works but LG not. YAMAHA is true dolby they just wanted to enter market with first dts surround sound bar to kill other brands. High selling model according to him.
He asked better dont get SK9Y.. if not much source connecting to sound bar then 1 hdmi in enough..
According to him he did fix soundbars at customer house and arc not detected so use optical..

None of them talked about high speed ethernet HDMI ARC issue.. damn it..

I think you guys should be sales person there to explain customer in detail..hahaha

Which brand hdmi is advisable brothers, i personally have 3. The last i bought is kameha brand..

LG SL10Y 5.1.2ch vs SAMSUNG HWN950 7.1.2ch
Best price RM4998 vs RM3955

HWn950 seems cheaper than SL10Y.. about 1000+ lesser
Why hwn950 at perak nearly 2k less compare kl..
Need to check comparison in this both latest spec...
Works well in Hdmi arc ?

OK good. then checked spec sheet, LG SK9Y got:
1x optical in
1x 3.5mm in
1x HDMI in (4K HDR pass through)
1x ARC HDMI out (4K HDR  pass through)

So will my setup like this correct?

1) PS4 pro HDMI out connect to TV HDMI in + optical out connect to LG SK9Y optical in
2) TV box HDMI out connect to LG SK9Y HDMI in
3) LG SK9Y ARC HDMI out connect to TV ARC HDMI in

This ensure my PS4 pro can play 4K HDR direct to TV but audio will be using optical since PS4 pro dont have dobly atmost (unlike xbox one S).
Then I will be able to play 4K HDR video content from TV box with 4K HDR pass through LG SK9Y to TV.
Then with ARC HDMI between LG SK9Y and TV, occasionally I can play movie/audio direct from TV to LG SK9Y without TV box (though this may not work as per read in this thread).

Correct?  notworthy.gif
*
I wonder how audio can pass through 2 source ? ..
Automatically picks or need to choose manually either 1 ?
Isn't that 1 source enough either arc or optical ?

Bro i just not very clear about this audio passing through method. Tv has no dolby audio dolby atmos or dolby digital or digital plus feature, so we play a movie from an app.example netflix in tv itself. we cannot get dolby audio.. since just normal tv speaker

But when normal tv connect with a sound bar which has all audio features atmos dd dd+ , should be able to get dolby audio right..
Playing a movie in tv netflix app. Video playing in tv, audio signal.pushed to soundbar which is able detect all format..then why tv must be dolby compatible?
