People consistently forget that bodymass and strength are stimulated in 2 distinctly different ways

1) Directly
2) Indirectly/systematically

Directly is easy....you do a set of biceps curls, your brain says "ouch, shit, my biceps hurt, let's build some strength and muscle there to prepare for this so that next time it doesn't hurt"

Indirectly/systematically is where people get hung up. You do a set of squats, and directly, your brain says "ouch, my quads hurt, let's build some muscle there. Damn, so do my hammies, let's add some muscle there. Oh shit, my ass hurts, we need to put some muscle there. Egads, my back and traps are sore now too, that bar feels heavy, let's add muscle there. Good god, I feel like I'm getting squashed....that...weight...balance...heavy...lord helpmeplease...RED ALERT!!!!RED ALERT!!!"

as a result, signals are sent throughout the body to stimulate overall strength and development. This happens with barbells and dumbbells, NOT SO WITH MACHINES!

Machines isolate body parts, which is unwanted when doing heavy compound excercise such as squats...compound ex. stimulate not only the primary muscles but also the other secondary muscles allowing for more growth overall..i have also found that CERTAIN machine dont offer a correct path of movement, such as smith machines, they r terrible for military presses because at the bottom of the ROM the bar moves away from the body and causes injury.

hmmm.. i joined and gym which owned by a friend of my mother.. and all i play is using the machines.. and i find it quite effective thumbup.gif

so my question is.. can i rely 100% on machines to build up? or i need to do some dumbell lifts myself?

not to offence gym machine user, but the machine really kind of useless. It dont give you the proper path way of lifting or moment. For those old schooler, they said machine is for sissy.
