Yes and R2 290,R 290x and R2 280 all went up to $80 to $100

Really hard to believe that actually this card is really good for gaming but most of people is not buying it for gaming but to do  business.

QUOTE(munk3y @ Dec 12 2013, 06:35 PM)
hey guys, just wondering, whats the difference between r9 290 and r9 290x.? because ive asked around, some of them said that theres not much difference other than the clock speed (is there a significance difference.?), but some said that theres a huge difference in terms of performance.

and also, is the any non-reference r9 290 out there.?
*
290x got 256 more stream processor and higher advertised clock speed@1ghz compare to 290 which only have 2560 sp and 947mhz clock speed.

Because AMD reference cooler doesn't perform well, 290x usually operate@850mhz-900mhz and the 290 able to maintain 947mhz clock speed most of the time with latest Catalyst driver. That make 290 perform similar to the 290x.

QUOTE(sleyer @ Dec 12 2013, 07:51 PM)
i really need new pc .. but still cant decide which one better .. i wan R290 non x but need to wait...   consider 770 i scare if R290nonx  better than 770 after release ...    pls help!
*
not sure what you mean but other than noise level and temperature, 290 outperform 770 with a huge margin.

Tried mining last night, managed to squeezed out 643Kh/s average, not to shabby i guess. Max temp is below 70c. I guess i'll continue mining since i'm not paying for my utility bills.
Hopefully with this i'll be able to pimp out my Dota 2 heroes in no time. laugh.gif

No date on custom cooler arrival yet, rumour has it the 290 will get one before 290x this xmas or early Jan. The price will increase for sure imo, expect 150-250 extra.

so, is it ok if i buy r9 290 now? do u hav it? i read comments saying that the temp is around 95. will it spoil go overheat if i play hours of game?
*
Yes it is ok to buy now but the reference cooler is quite loud and overclocking headroom is pretty small. 95c is totally normal for 290s according to AMD.

The price for 290 is pretty low now, around RM1.4k. The price will increase because of Litecoin mining rush, making AMD GCN GPU running out of stock everywhere.

i am thinking of getting R9 290(4) can any tell will damage my mobo or something beacause of heating issue

Plz guide me that how is really  Xfire performance of R9 290 and i dont trust reviews.I trust real time experience.
*
I don't think it will damage your mobo because most 4x CFX/SLI with ref cooler also produced high heat when they got packed together.

There's no user with 4x 290 here. hmm.gif

i talking about R9 290 Cf performance what really hold me back is this
http://www.overclock.net/t/1440600/r9-290-...-with-crossfire

The Crossfire dont work well in past games and some new games as the thread says.
*
Flash read that thread, i skipped to 20+ pages. Look like most of the problem is solved after installing Win 8.1 and most of the problem came from BF4.

What older game you need to use 290 CFX? hmm.gif

Yes but did read that it only solved new games like BF4.If u continue to read it has problem in games like Max payne 3,Far cry 3,Sleeping Dogs etc but at win 8.1 it running battlefield 4 at max there is no doubt

R9 290(3)>GTX 780(3) in battlefield 4
*
There's no problem with MP3 and Sleeping Dog. Probably still have some stutter in FC3. AMD going to release 2nd phase of frame-pacing driver this January anyway.

Yup as all review says and suggest AMD should not solve Multi GPU by software.AMD trying to solve their CF issues with software that is why CF cannot be compare with SLI in terms of reliability and stability.Nvidia has SLI hardware solution called Frame mattering
*
Old review? AMD new Bridge less / XDMA crossfire on the Hawaii GPU performed really good. hmm.gif

XDMA CrossFire Frame Pacing - It Works!!!

As you might be able to tell: we didn't get this second AMD Radeon R9 290X card from AMD. They preferred us to wait a bit for our CrossFire testing and, in particular, our 4K CrossFire testing. But sometimes hardware finds its way to our office; when it does, we test!

And to be honest, I am not sure why AMD wouldn't have wanted this story out.  When I published an article in September that looked at the severe problems that plagued the Radeon HD 7000 series in Eyefinity configurations (and thus tiled 4K ones, by association) that also used CrossFire, we wanted to push the company forward to release a fix sooner rather than later.  Today's release of the Radeon R9 290X, based on a new architecture with a completely new CrossFire implementation, proves that the GCN design can be improved!  Our testing with the 4K ASUS PQ321Q monitor with a pair of R9 290X cards clearly shows that to be the case.

user posted image

The results are not perfect though. Notice I said the issues have been "improved" and not "fixed."  There are clearly some games and situations that need more work to get to a point where game stutter is no longer noticeable.  Metro: Last Light, for example, no longer drops frames when in an Eyefinity/4K configuration but it clearly has a need for tighter frame variances to improve the gaming experience.

And of course, this fix, that comes with a combination of a new driver and a completely new hardware level implementation of CrossFire, doesn't help users of the R9 280X, 270X or even the Radeon HD 7000 series cards that are already out in the wild.  We are still waiting on the promised answer from AMD for those consumers that bought into the idea of CrossFire as well as multi-display gaming.

That is all we have for now - I had only a single day with the second R9 290X and thus testing was short and sweet.  You can expect some more detailed analysis, video comparisons and benchmarks of Eyefinity in the days to come.

Did you even click the link? They also tested it on 1440p and don't ask me how many gamer playing at 1440p because 2x 290x @ 1080p is totally overkill.
