It appears to be either AMD drivers or gpu BIOS issue.
From AMD forum:
http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm...MVIEWTMP=Linear

I quote the user 'victorji' from amd forums.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcPRQDOXk0E&feature=youtu.be
0:06 0:13 and noticeably at 0:58

Exactly the same artifact at 2D, no issue when 3D gaming.
I have to use 13.10WHQL just to get rid of the flickering artifact issue. Kinda flashing horizontal line when running 2D apps.
*
Can you check MSI Afterburner if CPU usage/clock went up?

QUOTE(eugene88 @ Nov 26 2013, 09:42 PM)
If I want to RMA do I just send it back to my shop or is there something like a service center to send to?
*
What happen to your card? hmm.gif

Yup, gpu and memory clocks is sporadically jumping up and down now. As the AMD forums mentioned, the flickering happen when the gpu/memory clocks jump changes. Powertune issue?

Now, in case for MPC-HC, if I force it to use D3D Fullscreen, there is no problem. Only 2D mode has issue, disabling windows aero does fix the issue. However, even with windows aero disabled, the flickering still happen if chrome, internet explorer and firefox are using hardware acceleration.
*
If that the case, try remove AMD Accelerated Video Transcoding and AMD Media Foundation Transcoder from AMD Catalyst Install Manager. Reboot your system and check if GPU clock still fluctuating when opening flash/mpc video.

All those random black screens and crashes, don't know is Windows problem or GPU problem
After my finals, i'm going to reinstall my windows and if the problems still occur i'll definitely send it to RMA  doh.gif
*
Did it generate any dump file in C:\Windows\minidump?

QUOTE(JohnLai @ Nov 26 2013, 10:26 PM)
I didn't have those AVT and MFT stuff installed in first place. Doesn't like the bloatware.

BTW, I made an edit to my post just now.
*
Definitely caused by PowerPlay/Powertune, sometime the UVD clock didn't give enough volt and causing some artifacts. I used to get this on my laptop HD6770m. Good thing i can set UVD clock via Overdrive editing.
Nowadays I only installed AMD Display Driver + CCC and watching Youtube videos didn't make the clock fluctuate anymore.

The problem, powertune is almost completely hardware controlled with minor software adjustment AMD Powertune
Then again, the gpu/memory fluctuation also happens with 13.10 and beta drivers and yet only 13.10 doesn't exhibit the flickering issue.
I did try using Overdrive to set a fixed clock speed, and guess what, it worked, no more flickering with beta drivers.
Except.......so what the point of powertune again? I need to manually adjust back the clock when I am not gaming or else the maximum fixed clock speed ( not overclocking ) gonna shorten the card lifespan
I tested from all beta 13.11 v6 until v9.4. Same issue.  doh.gif

Can you upload your version of Profiles.xml inside "AppData\Local\ATI\ACE"?'

Btw, your friend is using Sapphire R9-280X Dual-X?

I attached profiles from 13.10 and 13.11 v9.4 in the zip file. Not much different though.

As for your second question, his model should be Sapphire R9-280X Dual-X, exactly the same box and name as displayed at the amd forum.

EDIT: In addition, the beta drivers often causes "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered." from time to time. Never have this issue with 13.10. hmm.gif
*
Both profiles matched, and there's only 2 clock states.. not much we can do there. Timeout Detection and Recovery (TDR) also caused by PowerPlay/PowerTune. ph34r.gif

I just compared the beta BIOS you posted and Sapphire 280x Dual-X from TPU website. The only thing changed was Voltage on base clock is slightly higher on both Performance and UVD state on BETA bios.

Did you try to use MSI Afterburner and set your own 2D and 3D clock profile? Set the voltage a tiny bit higher.

Nah.. i don't think a slight increase in voltage will kill your card. Something like 0.05v-0.1v.

What is your card ASIC quality btw?

I doubt it will drop unless Nvidia will release a new GPU or another price drop.

Just finished benchmarking both cards at stock...So from 6 games (1440p) and 4 benchmark apps(Valley,Heaven4.0,Firestrike, 3dm11), overall performance increase from 280x dc2 Top to stock 290(947MHz) was 21% which is good enough to me since I'm comparing a factory oc'ed 280x vs stock 290.

will try to push this 290 card and see how far it can go when OC'ed  drool.gif

Nice. rclxms.gif Do you have Assetto Corsa to test? Wanted to see how 290 handle it at max settings. My overclocked 7950 only managed to get 35-ish fps, and that's only with 1 car on the track. laugh.gif

Thanks, already installed last night and voltage tweak is now online hehe...bro may I know how high your 290 can be pushed at stock volt for both core/ram?
btw here's another round of 3dmark benchmark at 1150/1400:

3DMark11(p)

Firestrike(p)

290@1150mhz can do alot more than that imo. hmm.gif

no, power target is set to Max 50%. Please do try out and post some 3dmark11/Firestrike score ya since Acid mentioned that my score is too low at that speed. I really want to know if something goes wrong with my pc laugh.gif.
Thanks
*
Not "too low" but if i recall correctly, 290@1100+ usually get 12k-13k GPU score.
Maybe i didn't realised i looked at 290x scores. doh.gif

Thanks for the reply. The problem occur with just flickering red and green lines but not BSOD sad.gif is there any report on the bsod file? sad.gif please guide me,not really good in this kind of things sad.gif
*
You can find BSOD dump file in "C:\Windows\minidump\"

Try this removing method from me.

1. Download and install DriverFusion from here + Windows Installer Cleanup Utility from here. Although Cleanup Utility is an old software, it still work in Win8.

2. Remove all AMD software thru Control Panel. Do not reboot.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

3. Run Windows Installer Cleanup and find any entry of AMD or Catalyst or CCC. Click Remove. Please don't screw up when selecting them. sweat.gif Do not reboot.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

4. Now run DriverFusion, select AMD Display and click Delete. Reboot your system.
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «
.

5. Now try install your driver.

P/S: If you already done step 1 and you didn't find anything in step 2, simply proceed to step 3.

You might want to select remove Nvidia display driver in DriverFusion too since your previous card was GTX560Ti.

Running these @2720x1530 with my 1080p Dell S2340L monitor.

Warning huge images.

Is 850W Bronze PSU enough for 2 x R9 280 X?

Yeah that is enough, both of them will consume 500w-550w max anyway.

QUOTE(cloud_83 @ Dec 1 2013, 06:08 PM)
Should be enough smile.gif

Btw some interesting result wanna share with you guys...I made a comparison between Stock 290(947MHz/1250MHz) vs OC'ed 290(1135MHz/1350MHz) using Catalyst 13.11 b9.4..overall perf gained ~20%  thumbup.gif. All games benchmarks was ran ar 2560x1440 Max Graphical setting.

*
Nice work bro. thumbup.gif A small request from me.. can you benchmark using Guru3D graphic setting for BioShock Infinite and Metro LL @1440p?

QUOTE(Metro : Last Light)
We measure in DX11 mode only. Above are some performance numbers based on the different image resolution settings. Image quality settings are maxed out, we are in DX11 mode, the game uses AAA anti-aliasing as standard, we do not enable Super Sampled AA. We have Texture Filtering at 16xAF, Motion Blur and Tesselation at normal.

QUOTE(BioShock Infinite)
We test BioShock Infinite at:
DirectX 11
Ultra Quality mode with DDOD enabled
FXAA enabled
