theoretically is it possible for a MTB to catch up with a Road Bike on a flat highway race?
*
if you are chris froome vs the average joe... why not?

else, it can be done... but the thing is how long can you hold onto such a high pace...

QUOTE(tuan birch @ Nov 13 2013, 07:11 PM)
is it because the crank teeth is not as large as RB ones?
*
it's a combination of gearing and the size of your wheel... and even if you can pull a 53tooth onto your 29ner MTB... you still have to overcome certain factors like a heavier bike, more resistance from multiple things specific to MTB and worst of all... the bobbing of a suspension sapping away your energy...

so, yes... it is possible for a MTB to match a road bike... but it will take a superhuman effort to do it... if both riders are equal... then, quite fat chance...

650c outlawed? not allowed in competition or the theory that it's faster is debunked?

and about the veloflex and vittoria, practically the same tyres right?
*
Vittoria tyre is being blacklisted by my group members. its the worst type to use during downhill & wet. everyone slipped n fallen...

boss... you know that tire has no threads to channel water out right?

if you take it and bantai wet corner... a bit rubbish lor... it's like finger boy trying to drive slick tires to a wet GP and then complaining to his engineers there is no grip...

furthermore, who rides in wet weather lar... and if you see rain mid-ride... back the f@k off lar... dun be a mcgyver...

and frankly... i think the conti's are a bit rubbish on grip as well lar...

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

and was dissapointed when it didn't give me the confidence to lean into the corner.... i thought paying triple the price of my maxxis peletupan will give me 3 x the confidence... mana tau, end up going dafug dafug dafug trying to bantai the first corner... at least i know my maxxis was a disappointment to start with lar... so, i dun expect too much given the price... that thing just felt like a very lembik overpriced ultrasport man... WTF!!!

straightaway wan to go back to my beloved maxxis... at least it reminded me that i have no grip every time i try to lean on the bike and be safe... that conti is just plotting to kill you at every corner...

conti : guess got grip or not... maybe lar... next corner i get you....
conti : guess got grip or not... still got lar....
conti : this is the one... go full throttle, dude...

then, tire gives up like a french surrender monkey and you end up flying off the side of genting sempah onto karak highway and then get ran over by an 18 wheel trailer....

and another complain... that tire just spins up for nothing when i get out of saddle on a slightly steeper wet climb... WTF is that dude... it is as bad if not worst than my detonator...

end of complain....

anyways.. as i say.. the corsa are race day tires lar... not used for general all purpose weather and shall never give it the stick if it f@ks up on your for the slightest prick on the road... they are about performance... not durability... period...

The tyre no grip? I think should be ok in my case..smooth flat tarmac...super flat..super boring..super dry, except some sands on the road on a certain area.

Since I've had bad experience with a sidewall bursts on my conti gp4000s in the middle of the desert, anything that seems abnormal on my sidewall is definitely on my concerns..I don't want to walk to my car for 50km.

the strange thing is the conti's sidewall is very supple.. but when you reach the section where the contact patch is... it's pretty hard... given that you are already living with a sidewall that is already prone to damage... why not take advantage of a supple contact patch as well that decreases rolling resistance? i mean you have to live with the increase likely hood of punctures all around lar...

as a observation...

notice how a gp4000 is packaged bulging...

and this is how a veloflex looks like packaged

and this is vittoria open corsa cx

it tells a lot how soft a tyre all around has to be in order to be flattened like that...of course, arguably... rubber compound is the shit that decides your grip lar...

i've read their site... it's practically trying to copy firecrest shape with their so called wide fairing rims lar...

durability aside... there is no way to tell if they are better than the benchmark wheels aero wise and they are certainly not that light to start with... the good thing? price is cheap and they use j-turn spokes instead of straight pull like zipp's sapim cx-rays... replacement is not that much of a worry if you can live with mixing spokes on the wheel...

i thought u wanted climbing wheels??? they dun have wor....

2 of my buddies get the Flo 30 and quite happy with it..but i'm planning to get the 60 version..I bet my FR0 is a lot better than the 30..anyway it's quite cheap to start venturing into aero thingy with their pricing.

climbing wheels at this point of time no use..the best i think is zipp 202fc tubular 1.1kg only..but yea..not now

yup the Flos are a bit on the heavier side..but then on the flat..i couldnt care much about acceleration..i just want some free speed tongue.gif well it's just a plan hmm.gif

agreed. one time descended genting sempah in a pouring rain, with rear vittoria and front continental. no problem as i didn't descend like them pros and no hard/late braking.
