How can i access the setting page for Huawei HG8240w?

Brand: Huawei
Model: ONU-HUAWEI-HG8240w
Telco: TM Unifi

Terminal IP: 192.168.100.1
Computer IP: 192.168.100.20

I can ping the router IP 192.168.100.1, but i can't access the WebUI page at http://192.168.100.1
I also tried telnet at port 23, ssh to port 22. None of it success.
I tried with LAN port 1 and LAN port 2, same result.

Thanks!

Yes it can still be accessible. If you are not connected.

Reset the BTU, disconnected the fiber cable from your BTU

I was bought a Huawei Echolife HG8240 but ended up failed to set up the modem. I can't access to my Alcatel Lucent I-240G-T too, it has locked and must reset the BTU in order to telnet into it.
I was gave up because I don't know what is the ONU password of my BTU. Will lost everything if I reset it.

It is better for you to tell what router you are using and test on what device (mobile phone ? Notebook ? etc)
easy for others to help you...the capped limit might not be your router , mighy be your device.

I'm still using the TM provided stock router D-link 850L bro (Supports up to 300Mbps). Will be getting the Tenda AC18 soon though.

You can check out thread https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4658096 meant for Wifi router matter and see if your router supports Gigabit speeds.

Thanks.

I'm using stock Dlink DSL-2640T provided by TM which I know that the LAN port is 100 Mbps and WiFi 54 Mbps. So this is my limitation.

BTU is Huawei HG8240w which I have tested the LAN port to 1 gbps but I cannot access the web access at 192.168.100.1 but I can ping it. Any help here?

I got the 300 Mbps upgrade and just want to test the speed to confirm it.

HG8240 is 1 Gbps LAN, no issue ; and you not suppose to access this modem (BTU), yes, some ppl has the knowledge to access it but all setting will be gone and not worth to alter anything of it.

2nd, you know your router is limited to 100Mbps and yet you want it to reach speed of 300 Mbps ???
3rd, I am not sure ADSL suitable for Unifi or not ; and Unifi normally using VDSL.

Bro, you got it wrong.

The plan is to test the speed limit.

Since my router is not capable of reaching speed of 300 Mbps as I have also mentioned, I was thinking of testing directly via the BTU or any other means that may be suggested.

My unifi is on fiber and not adsl.

Cheers.

via RJ45 Lan cable, set your computer ip to become 192.168.100.x , subnet 255.255.255.0 , gateway leave blank

HG8240H is the new model, it has been distributed by less than 2 years

I am not sure whether old model can be accessed the same way. But i still advice not to alter the btu setting or reset.
Once reset, you will need to have activation code to enable BTU link to TM.

In the new BTU huawei hg8240h I found there is actually a WebUI for u to play around with. Unlike its predecessor hg8240w, u have to input the parameters the old school "cmd" and "telnet" way in order to perform congifiguration.

Dhcp configuration as follows:
Ip address : 192.168.1.[2<=x<=254, u decide]
Subnet mask : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway. : 192.168.1.1

Navigate to 192.168.1.1 via any preferred browser.
Username: tmadmin
Password: Adm@xxxx [xxxx are last 4 digits of your MAC address found at bottom sticker]
*credentials are case sensitive

*credit to Qusyairi Ramli

#half-a55ed thread, lOl...

*Thanks cheenon for correction

correction: hg8240w does have webUI, u dont have to go thru cmd interface icon_rolleyes.gif

1. Is it possible to do VLAN600 tagging into any other 3 ports?

2. Telephone SIP setting. Maybe you can help fellow Maxis users here to use TM BTU to vonnect Maxis phone number so that they can detech that crappy TPLink router completely.

3. Set BTU as PPoE dialer directly.

If you're on Unifi:
HG8240w: web interface is only available if you reset it with fiber cable unplugged. Once you plugged it back, TM's system will automatically remotely configure it blocking it again

HG8240h: web interface always available, but you can only login with root account as telecomadmin's password is changed. There's a way to bypass, figure it yourself

If you're on Maxis using TM's infra:
HG8240w/8240h: Web interface is always available. TM's system will automatically remotely configure telecomadmin's password to default

If you have the same model as I do , then you should be able to access. first plug in network cable connecting ur computer to port 3 of BTU. Change ip range of your computer to 192.168.100.x, go in 192.168.100.1
User and password for HG8240H = telecomadmin:admintelecom

While I'm trying to get access to TM's HG8240w telnet interface by following some guides on chinese site, which didn't work unfortunately even though I was using Huawei's official software, I came across a site in which the owner had access to firmwares for Huawei BTUs. So I requested for a copy of HG8240w's latest firmware from him, which I tried flashing into my BTU but nothing ever happened, it didn't went into the flashing mode.

Anyway, I'm posting the firmware here so any experienced sifus here can give it a try.

One more thing, I'm not really sure whether this is compatible with all HG8240w as there's a v2 version listed on Huawei's site, and the difference may be in the V200/V300 software it's running? Not sure about it yet. The firmware below is for V300, which is listed on the BTU's original packaging.

No need VLAN tag, you have to connect the BTU to your laptop directly without passing through the router.

fruitie Does this forum have thread takeover function? If so, who wants to take it? SilentVampire Do u want to take the helm? Or have this thread merged with existing Huawei HG8240W thread. These 2 are essentially the same device in the core with different shells. hmm.gif Im fine with whatever decision u guys come out with, i wont be as active on this forum anymore.

Anyone here have any idea on disabling Vlan tagging on the Huawei HG 8240 modem? Web UI doesn't show anything about the vlan tagging

I read some people claim the HG8240W has 100Mbps max and somewhere on yourtube someone commented that TM officially said 800/200Mbps with this modem is not possible.

I find that hard to believe.

GPON Port Specifications

This topic describes specifications and standards compliance of the GPON interfaces.
Table 1-1 GPON port specifications

Parameter Specifications

Transmission rate
Rx: 2.488 Gbit/s
Tx: 1.244 Gbit/s

Connector SC/APC

Maximum transmission distance 20 km

Standard compliance ITU-T G.984.2 CLASS B+

Center wavelength
Tx: 1310 nm
Rx: 1490 nm

Tx optical power 0.5 dBm to 5.0 dBm

Extinction ratio > 10 dB

Minimum receiver sensitivity -27 dBm

Maximum overload optical power -8 dBm

This modem according to Huawei can easily do 1Gbps both up and downstream.
Unless of course Huawei is a untrustworthy company that is lying on their specifications.

But since all the world considers Huawei the only trustworthy company in the world, at least it seems
that's the case because all the world wants Huawei, we have to assume the specifications by Huawei are
correct and thus 1Gbps is easily doable.

i am on maxis fiber broadband, i was given the TM branded HG8240H GPON, i can login to the web interface if i disconnected my fiber cable, if i connect the fiber cable, i can't access to 192.168.1.1 web interface at all. This makes me very difficult to change the VOIP setting because i can't check the connection status real time

i tried to do a hard reset of that GPON but it is still the same, anyone face the same issue and how to fix it?

Intentional, the modem gets configuration from the olt on the other side to disable the web interface

So unfortunately you have to configure while it's unplugged.

Also, it's not possible to get VOIP on the modem working for Maxis, many other have tried, notably Anime4000, ask em for the technical side of things.

Yes it's up to 2.4Gbit on the GPON side of things.

So from Fibre to Modem it's 2.4Gbit

The question is, what about the link from the modem to the router?
The Huawei page required an account which I didn't bother to sign up
If it has Gigabit Ethernet ports, then between Modem to Router there is up to 1Gbit
If it only has Fast Ethernet ports, then only 100Mbps max between.

Check if the Ethernet ports are 10/100 or 10/100/1000

How can i access the setting page for Huawei HG8240w?

Brand: Huawei
Model: ONU-HUAWEI-HG8240w
Telco: TM Unifi

Terminal IP: 192.168.100.1
Computer IP: 192.168.100.20

I can ping the router IP 192.168.100.1, but i can't access the WebUI page at http://192.168.100.1
I also tried telnet at port 23, ssh to port 22. None of it success.
I tried with LAN port 1 and LAN port 2, same result.

Thanks!
*
SSH is accessible by plugging in to Port 2. Set LAN IP to 192.168.100.10. Then SSH into 192.168.100.1. username: root pass: admin

Hi guys, just a quick note here

It seems that TM already found out about this, where I still can access via SSH and view the settings especially the SIP information and do voice mg shutdown so that calls will go straight to my FreePBX instead of the ONU.

- FYI, the SIP information keeps changing especially the media IP address and the default gateway for voice vlan.

As of 18 August 2025, they seems have pushed new configuration where , access is now locked
including http, https, ssh and etc. I suspect they also changed the LAN interface IP where it is no longer in 192.168.100.0/24 network. I tried 192.168.2.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 is also not working as well. [For TM provided ONU]
