Forgive the slightly tacky arrangement of the keys. Just wanna show off as much as I can at the same time.

Got the blue PBT keycaps and the KBT ONI from Sup2Nic (shoutout!) except that Poslaju does nothing laju and nearly failed the pos part.

White keycaps bought off taobao (around RM112) for whole set (meant for my Ducky Zero Shine at home). Feels quite heavy and feels like ABS (although I'm not sure if it's really ABS) and has good feels biggrin.gif

I might retain the blue keycaps on this one because it looks kinda professional too. White keycaps definitely going to be stuck at home because of the "geng" font.

Actually how do you guys start getting a mechanical keyboard? I'm just a newbie that know something about it and used to be target 6Gv2, but it seems like nothing from this thread =.=  Is that you guys self-customized one? -.-

*What's the lowest budget I can start from mechanical keyboard? Any suggestion?
*
I'd start with heavy-arm.com in Subang for a good gauge of prices.

Since MKBs are quite expensive, you'd see a lot of specialized units and brands. I'd say about RM250 is the lowest range (Rosewill) you can go for a full sized. Banggood has a few Keycools going for about that much and free international shipping.

I recommend that you go to a shop and try out the buttons. Different keys have different switch and feels so if you're gonna invest so much (relatively) you'd better make sure you like the feels first.

Office keyboard bro... Professional Decorum™. I already broke it a bit when I straight away customize on my own table when I got it.

Besides, home one got blue LEDs, so white should show off pretty nice against it but IDK about other colours tongue.gif

p/s; the space bar on the white keycaps have problem... the stabilizer slots are too close to each other to fit in the ONI, hence the space I left it black sad.gif

THEN WHY HE NOT SELLING???

On the other hand, I'm trying to buy keycaps locally. So many top-rows, but others not so common for me. I had to buy a whole 37-key set (at least) just to replace my QWER keys sad.gif

QUOTE(lowyatguy @ Oct 17 2013, 02:33 PM)
It's not the white space bar problem, its the ONI's spacebar stem placement is abit out.

Now, should we classified KBT ONI as one of the "non-fully-customizable"?
*
Yes, we should. I haven't gone home to check the placement on my Ducky Zero Shine yet, but if what you say is true, then it's the plastic bits around the stabilizers that needs to be dealt with. As usual, I'm highly reluctant to take my knife to the plastic.

non-standard layout size = not so recommended by the senior veterans here
it is still a mechanical keyboard just that we don't recommend non-standard as you will be in a world of regret when u want to replace them keycaps.
*
And before you bloody say that you'll bloody buy the keyboard and you'll only use that particular set of keys for the time being, listen to an addict's confession here: It only took two weeks to realize that you'd wanna change the keycaps. Two weeks. Then you realize that you kinda need a TKL version because you don't use the numpad much... then you saw the Poker II and feel that even the arrow keys are under utilized... and then you hear about this legendary thing called the HHKB.

All this while you start reading about PBT and ABS and POM, and maybe you start thinking that those particular switch type isn't really that optimal...

Maybe you start thinking about Dvorak layout and how it'll increase your WPM.

Before you know it, you're like a junkie; spending all his money on keyboards and typing away on forums/message boards and preaching the Good News™.

QUOTE(calkh @ Oct 17 2013, 04:11 PM)
Damn....I've bought my 1st MKB (QF TK) for home use. A Gamer KB with non-standard layout etc....I know - but it fits my original purpose - a TKL keyboard for gaming at home...

Before long - that QF TK got disconnected from my gaming machine and migrate to be full time laptop keyboard replacement when I work at home. I type so much more for work and the MKB feeling is just too awesome and too wasted when limited to just hitting WASD + Spacebar.

Now - every hour spent in office with the frankly horrible Dell membrane makes me miss my QF TK...and the temptation to buy a KB for office use grows.....
*
That's why I got a TKL for mobile usage. Cyber-cafe gaming (it's more fun to shout at people) and office keyboard. Once you get used to the feels there's no way that you'd be willing to go back to mundane membrane keyboards anymore.

i bring my keyboard with me to work everyday, i don't mind even if it adds on ~1.2KG to my bag with a laptop in it.
because the hours and the amount of typing you gonna do at work will make u feel sour at work with a non-mechanical keyboard. been there >.<
*
The exact reason why I bought my second keyboard not long after I started using one at home. The feels is just too different without my MKB. Now that I have one it feels totally different and I'm happily hammering away.

So i figured out the spacebar problem... it's the construction of the space bar itself. The middle insert is too big, so I'm filing it down. The side stabilizers are no longer an issue since I cut it all off. Still sticky key though... any more ideas?

What water test?

QUOTE(lowyatguy @ Oct 18 2013, 08:35 AM)

Why u go cut off the stabilizer stem without asking first shocking.gif , u should just mod the keycaps not the keyboard stem doh.gif
*
LIFE'S TOO FVKING SHORT FOR SAFETY!!!

BTW, I have applied lighter on the space bar because I thought that it was wonky/not straight. Didn't work.

Cut cut cut the keycap extra stabilizer. Didn't work.

Then I cut the four plastic corners around the stabilizers on the keyboard (don't worry, it was the Ducky Zero Shine (Stabilizers can be replaced right? Right? RIGHT?)). Didn't work.

Then I see see the actual (+) thing on the key insert... and realized that the ABS-like material is too flipping thick for the key to insert itself correctly into the switch and come out without brushing against the switch cover. doh.gif Bloody heck. Shave shave shave. Still sticky. Shave some more plastic. Finally worked.

Should have been playing Dota instead, but just watched some games while fixing it. Running up and down looking for my lighter and knife...

so now the spacebar works flawlessly without having the sticky moments d?

Yeah. Flawless.

QUOTE(lowyatguy @ Oct 18 2013, 11:15 AM)
Whatever it is, the spacebar is considered non-standard unless with mod done.
0168257061 Please add this info into the first page.

It's the keycap problem, actually.

QUOTE(0168257061 @ Oct 18 2013, 11:24 AM)
Cant comprehend.
Will be interesting if we can take a look in real life.
Anyone can bring it to gathering?

Will update first page
*
It's keycap. Keycap problem. I think the Ducky Zero Shine can interswitch keycaps (not that I'm gonna re-use those POM keycaps ever) with the KBT ONE, so I think they're both compatible with the standard sets.

In the end, it's just the stupid keycaps sad.gif

Dun care for now. Everything seems to work fine, so worse come to worse I'll ghetto a plastic mount for the stabilizers. So far so good, even pwned a few noobs yesterday after fixing up the keyboard.
