Hello all,I just started to have a silver aro which is only 5 inches..any ideas that it should be fed with what kind of food?
*
Silvaro aaa?
feed with crickets n mealworms
i think crickets is the best coz mealworms kinda hot for fish
coz the mealworms itself is hot
QUOTE(NutBie @ Jan 3 2007, 09:58 PM)

yes the trick is not to have left over food...so i suggest that u get few bottom feeder fishes to eat the balance of the food....tiget barbs maybe ? or even lampam ?...choice up to you
*
Lampam is a good idea for Aro tankmate
last time i put 1 koi fish, my JAR killed it when i'm on holiday
the koi fish is around 3 to 4 inches sweat.gif sweat.gif

my JAR is getting bigger nowadays rclxms.gif rclxm9.gif thumbup.gif

QUOTE(dildream @ Jan 4 2007, 03:31 PM)
Hi all aro lovers out there,
I am Dillon. Decided to join in after two weeks of reading. Brief description on myself :
Age & location : 28 from Subang, Selangor.
Pet : Greenie (around 8 inch now )
started since November 2006 after Aquafair Malaysia
2nd Pet : Shih Tzu mix Whiteland Terrier (female)
I have read all the pages in this thread and I find that you guyz are amazing. You all even organised outings together to look for aro. Wish I could join in the outing in near future.
I plan to have another two aro in my 3ft tank. After they grow bigger than 16 inch, then will change to 6x2.5.2.5 tank. Any recommendations?
*
Welcome Dillon icon_rolleyes.gif thumbup.gif
IMHO, 4 X 2 ft tank is the best to start aro with
if u start with 3 ft like me, u will end up with wasting money to buy another bigger tank
y don't u just start with bigger tank for saving purposes
so, in the future don't have to buy another tank
save your money for better water filter or cannister
OR other stuff for your aro like vitamin what so ever

Better start saving money to buy bigger tank
in few months time, your greenie will grow fast sweat.gif sweat.gif
and 2 ft tank for your greenie is totally small

Like me who brought a yellow tail very..very cheap at Jalan Pasar last time. After 8 month till now, the 'janggut' still not yet appeared... *sigh* a 'cacat' one I assume... sad.gif
*
How long is your fish now?
Post the pic la so we can see what happened to your fish
sometime the barbels grow so slow n take lot of time to grow
like my silver, when i bought it got no barbels, few weeks after that it grow longer n longer
be patienece my friend, be patience
QUOTE(c0c0nut @ Jan 5 2007, 08:18 AM)
yesterday have a real good look at my fish....about 1hr i stare at him...looks like the right eye got slight defect...looks normal but don like to go back to the original position...afraid could be a drop eye at early stage...the left  one looks ok..*sob* *sob*
*
Waaa....1 hour stared? Me only 30 minutes stared n then get tired

like my JAR la c0c0nut, right eye slightly defect (drop)
the left eye seems to be ok sweat.gif sweat.gif

may be that's the reason y my JAR like to eat centipede n superworms at the bottom
not while the foods on the top of him
only when eating crickets, he can go up n eat 'em whistling.gif

For amateur like us, just buy cheap cheap aro la
like silver, pearl, YT, greenie aro that below RM200

if want to go for expensive aros, better use bigger tank n better water consumption or cannister
planning to do that in 2 years time, probably end of 2008

Which one? The water PH Test Kit or the corals?
The PH Test Kit is RM16 n 1 kilo of corals is RM2.50 laugh.gif
QUOTE(saif_bear @ Jan 6 2007, 02:36 PM)
for aro, water PH should be maintain at 7.0, max it can go until 7.5.
*
Thanks saif_bear
BUT the problem is bot of my Aro (Silvaro n JAR) always looks tired
always open n close it's mouth
like just ran in marathon of 100KM sweat.gif sweat.gif

Can somebody tell me why? Or is it natural?

not enough oxigen?
*
I think so la sweat.gif
just bought another air pump (bubble pump) and wanna put it in the tank to add more oxygen
hope it will help

second that, i wonder why not enough oxygen coz i use internal filter
like FS display tanks, with filter border inside
then the water pump the filtered water on top of the tank n let it out quite fast
can see lot of bubble came out
then, how come not enought oxygen?
QUOTE(ChelseaFan @ Jan 7 2007, 12:04 AM)
ARO pH best 6.5-7.0
Our river is full with peat(decayed plants), so water is soft. To replicate it use Ketampang leaves/ Black Water.
Dont use coral, it's alkaline. Cichilds thrive well in hard water.
*
Just add 1/2 kilo of coral
not 1 kilo of it, just a few, divided it into 2 tanks
just wait till next week before do water change
FYI, i've checked the water PH for both of it
Silvaro water is 7.2 and the JAR water PH is 7.0 sweat.gif
QUOTE(aljebat @ Jan 7 2007, 01:11 AM)

That's the thing
very nice fan tail
