Ok, thanks.

How about colour space? sRGB or AdobeRGB? If shoot in RAW it doesn't matter right?
*
I shoot sRGB most of the time, I don't know what's the difference about this. I think it's a no matter if shooting RAW too, because later when you're processing to RAW, there is option to choose what colour space. Hence, my theory is RAW disregard this, it's like a negative for us to recolour.

These few days i saw i lot of photos posted here. May I know those pics are untouched or Photoshopped? Can post pre and post edit pic for comparison or not? hehe...
*
They're developed. It might be unfair to make a comparison between untouched RAW and the developed ones. Because originally, RAW takes picture without any enhancement making it rather duller than normal image styles for JPEG set in the camera.

Any sifu here have experience with 18-55mm Nikon kitlens?
I have a lot of experience from my friends as well for Canon kitlens. It seems, within a year or a little bit longer, the lens will have problems with flex cable and aperture blades. Like this one, with the message. So I am wondering how Nikon kitlens do since most of my friends will ask for my advice to get their first DSLR. I don't want later, they feel cheated.

not only kit lens will have that problem, even my tamron 70-200 has that. weird though, both my canon 50mm and 18-135mm didn't have this problem. I just remount the lens and most of the time it will be solved.
*
I noticed this too, it seems 18-135 are more durable, so I probably suggest this one or 50mm plastic fantastic instead shall they asked for an advice to get Canon.

QUOTE(coolkwc @ Nov 9 2013, 02:15 PM)
Haha, nola, I just would like to know how the untouched raw image looks like before it developed. Before this, i thought the photo i saw here is raw from the camera. It makes me feel 'amazing' about DSLR quality. But after i owned, the story is slightly different now and i start to doubt on that. No doubt about you guys shooting skill,  notworthy.gif just curious u guys how 'depth' the raw image has been developed only. Anyway, this is what i thought, no hard feeling. smile.gif

Huh, kitlens so cheapskate? Mine is kitlens that u mentioned. sad.gif
*
Eh, no offense taken lah, just pointing out that the real RAW is dull. I could post one or two undeveloped and developed ones for you later. smile.gif

For now, my friends with Nikon kitlens have no problem. I don't know, I'm still new with Nikon.

Thanks in advance.

Haha, I'm not only have to learn how to use camera, also need to learn how to develop photo, that's why yesterday i adi got a copy of photoshop cs6 to be installed in my PC, open it up, look alot more complicated than my cam setting. rclxub.gif
*
When I was starting out, I stick to JPEG and messing with picture styles, then edit with Picasa. Basic stuff. Until now, I don't know how to use Adobe Photoshop except for merging three different exposed photos for HDR. Don't worry lah.

I can only share this one, campus wifi is so slowwww..

For the highlights you can use warmer color, but for shadows always use cooler color to balance out the whole picture. Might not be totally correct, but that's what I always do at least, because when you add warm color to a high-key picture, it will turns really yellow, adding some blue might help to make it looks more natural.

Thanks, I use HDR on this one.

QUOTE(amduser @ Nov 9 2013, 09:27 PM)
the leaves at the foreground is distracting but overall the picture is still usable

take note that the cat and the leaves has different color, if you want a warmer tone, try adjust the green hue more to the yellow side, in lightroom the green hue value should be around -20, if you think the green i too saturated then try to desaturate the green, not too much but maybe -10 or -15, can try to play with luminance as well

that way you can leave color tone of the cat untouched, so let's say you want a warmer tone you can adjust the whilte balance +200 or +400 from your current white balance reading, if you are using lightroom then click on the temperature slider and roll your mouse wheel to adjust, that way will be faster

lastly the eyes, lightroom got an iris enhance brush preset and it works everytime, when you enhance the details in the eyes it will look very nice thumbup.gif

the final touch up would be adding some vignette to make the viewer focus on the cat since the leaves at foreground is distracting

Such a detailed tutorial. Thank you for this guide, I'll try this concept on my future photos.

Wah, you really took a lot of photos bro notworthy.gif notworthy.gif

I think for the 1st photo, it might be better to have just composed the lower right corner of the photo- showing just the boats and the sea. After all, the there is not really anything on the left anyway haha laugh.gif Of course, to do that you might need to zoom a bit..

2nd shot I think the some of the shades of green are a bit too saturated, but I love the lights and shadows on the sand though, very nice... I didn't notice the tire tracks at all until I read your photo title haha laugh.gif Might need to change title  tongue.gif

Hello everyone, I actually used a lot of DSLRs before and now I'm looking to get one for myself.
I'm aiming particularly at Nikon because I like the specs.

Currently I got my eyes on the D5300 which of course is not available yet.
I want to ask : are there any estimated date of arrival to Malaysia and the price? Also which lens would you all recommend to bundle the camera with?

Thanks!

Agree with the other, consider much better body like D7100 especially.
Get 35mm 1.8G? Is a bit narrow for framing but the image produced is absolutely beautiful. Unless you need a little wide angle, perhaps can go for Sigma 18-35? A tad expensive I think compared to the former.

IMO AA filters are quite controversial...
Either to get more detail and sharpness or no, but got a soft touch of AA to it looks more pleasing.
Price gap of the D7000 and D7100 is really large though sleep.gif
*
I wonder if with or without AA filter really results on obvious changes on sharpness unless pixel peeped. If it's not obvious, then D7000 would be good enough. You're going to sell those photos to clients or just for blogs?

Point taken.
Another question I'd like to add -
There are two versions of the Tamron lens mentioned by bro PF T.J., but do we really need the VC?
tamron AF17-50MM F2.8 rm1190
tamron AF17-50MM F2.8 VC rm1580

390 bucks for that shocking.gif
*
maximum 50mm is kinda acceptable for me without VC, with the widest aperture of f/2.8 and depending on the lighting and ISO, you can use shutter speed that fast enough to avoid blur. To me lah... smile.gif

Sifus, do you all actually use any types of filters for the lens?
I know many people does put filters but I'd like to ask if there anyone putting a dummy filter to protect the lens or not sweat.gif so expensive LA the gear
*
I don't use UV filter because it's too expensive to get a good quality one. The quality one will have little side effect on the image produced.

Circular polarizer is used to filter the light haze thus you'll get saturated sky as what it supposed to be without the haze. Also used to filter reflections on mirror and water. Might be useful for those who want to take pictures of model near the glass. Also, used for nature photography like macro botany.

ND filters are used to filter the lights from coming in. Used for long exposure photography. Hence, you don't need to wait dawn or dusk to take those smooth flow photos. Another thing is gradual nd filter and many, many more. You'll get better understanding reading guides on these laugh.gif

The deal seemed pretty alright if the Raynox 250 is in very pristine conditions nod.gif
Otherwise, just stick to getting plastic extension tubes, they offer high enough magnifications for you to start learning already nod.gif
You will also need flash for better shots, can either get a flashgun or DIY a diffuser icon_rolleyes.gif
Most of the macro sifus have a Raynox 250 for their setups, though I have never tried one yet hmm.gif

Thanks! I've seen a lot of pictures captured with Raynox too, but I'm just not sure how it will fare on 35mm prime. I think I'll get it, it looks fine from the pictures he sent. Hopefully it's true. I want to move to macro now, learn a bit, might be helpful to pass the time now that weather is crazy in east coast. smile.gif
